Abstract

The invention comprises the potassium salt of prednisolone 21-p-sulphobenzoate, the sodium salt of hexadecadrol 21-m-sulphobenzoate, and processes for the preparation of steroid esters in which a 20-keto-21-hydroxy-steroid is converted into a corresponding 21-sulphonate and the latter is reacted in solution in a polar solvent with an alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid to yield the ester at the 21-position of said steroid. As polar solvents there may be used an N,N-dialkyl acylamide (e.g. dimethylformamide) or dimethyl sulphoxide. Specifications 826,953, 853,402 and 899,996 are referred to.
