Thyreophagus entomophagus y Carpoglyphus lactis. La fuente de alimento para los ácaros presa fue una mezcla
50:50 de levadura de cerveza y dextrosa para todos los cultivos, excepto para los cultivos 3 y 8 que usan Thyreophagus entomophagus como ácaros presa. Los ácaros presa Thyreophagus entomophagus en los cultivos 3 y 8 se criaron en una dieta sin dextrosa, y que incorpora como fuente de proteína harina de pescado. En todos los
5 casos, el alimento se mezcló con un material vehículo.
Se contó el número de ácaros depredadores por litro de material de cultivo en cultivos de etapa tardía. Los recuentos se realizaron según un método de recuento en seco usado previamente como estándar por MAFF (Griffiths et al. 1976, Ann. App. Biol. 82, 180-185). Este método permite evaluar múltiples muestras en un período de tiempo corto, aunque se reconoce que no recupera todos los ácaros en una muestra.
10 En total, hubo 34 cultivos que usan Thyreophagus entomophagus como ácaro presa, y 56 cultivos que usan Carpoglyphus lactis.
