Abstract
Improved process for preparing paints based on polyvinyl latex, characterized in that a pigmented coating composition is prepared having a volume concentration of pigment (PVC) of 8-80%, by a process comprising: A) formation of a mixture of l) water, 2) polymerizable constituent consisting essentially of a liquid of the group consisting of (a) a monomer selected from class I as described in the text, (b) a monomer selected from class II as also described in text of the descriptive part, (c) two monomers selected only from class I as also described, (d) two monomers selected only from class II also as described, (e) two monomers of which one is selected only from class I as described, while the other one is from class III only as well as described, 3) a dispersion of aqueous pigment, 4) u n) wetting agent, 5) a protective colloid, 6) a reduction activating catalysis system consisting of (a) an oxidizing agent consisting of a water-soluble salt of persulphuric acid, (b) at least one reducing agent consisting of a water soluble compound of the group consisting of sulfur oxacid salts having reducing properties and addition compounds of these salts with an aldehyde, (o) a catalysis activator consisting of a water soluble iron salt, and (d) a separating agent capable of forming a complex with polyvalent iron cations, B) stirring said mixture at temperatures lower than the reflux temperature of the mixture during the polymerization of said polymerizable constituent and dispersion of the pigment in the resulting emulsion occurring simultaneously, and C) adjusting the proportion of polymerizable constituent in the mixture to form an aqueous pigmented coating composition having a PVC between 8 and 80%.
