Abstract

El níquel y el cobalto, así como los miembros de la familia de los metales del platino y del paladio se recuperan del suelo cultivando plantas Brassicaceae, específicamente Alyssum en un suelo que contenga níquel/cobalto así como otros metales. El suelo se prepara manteniendo un pH bajo, una concentración baja de calcio y mediante la adición de un fertilizante de amonio y de agentes quelantes. Se consigue una acumulación de níquel en el orden del 2,5% o mayor en los tejidos situados encima del suelo, lo que permite la recuperación del metal cosechando las plantas, secándolas y luego haciéndolas arder, para oxidar o vaporizar metales orgánicos y recuperar los metales secuestrados en las plantas en concentraciones de 10 a 20 veces superiores a las que se presentan en el suelo, en una forma que puede utilizarse en una refinería convencional de Ni o en operaciones de fusión del Ni.
