Un compuesto de fórmula general I **(Fórmula)** donde R1 = H, CH3, CH2CH3, CH2CH2CH3, CH(CH3)2, CH2CH2CH2CH3, R2=H, CH3, R3=H, CH3, CH2CH3 y la línea punteada entre el átomo de carbono del anillo aromático y el átomo de carbono que lleva los sustituyentes R1, R2, forma opcionalmente un enlace de cierre anular para formar el sistema anular del indano, o bien la línea punteada junto con los átomos de carbono que llevan los sustituyentes R1, R2, R3 forma opcionalmente un doble enlace, donde en el caso de un doble enlace R1=R2=H, y en todos los demás casos el número total de átomos de carbono de todos los residuos viene dado por C8 > R1 + R2 + R3 > C1.
