Abstract

Yarn guides (58a) are selected on a circular or flat knitting machine by respective pushing rods (42a) located in consecutive tricks of a needle-free selvedge region of the needle bed(s) and selectively actuated e.g. by an electromagnetic selection device (13) to act on respective intermediate levers (49 to 52) which in turn displace the yarn guides (58) outwardly against return springs into engagement with a cam (68) for lowering the guides to operative position. In a further trick of the selvedge region is located a pushing rod which pivotally operates a linkage for displacing a hooked member radially inwardly and outwardly and a horizontally pivotable lever cooperates with the hook, the hook serving to introduce a new yarn to the needles while the lever sheds the yarn from the hook.
