Le procédé peut comprendre une fourniture d'un signal d'activation à un dispositif de traitement de données portable, le signal d'activation étant conçu pour activer un logiciel dans le dispositif de traitement de données portable; une fourniture d'une information de catégorie de produits et d'une information de lieu d'un utilisateur au dispositif de traitement de données portable; une fourniture d'une pluralité d'états cibles possibles dans le dispositif de traitement de données portable en tenant compte de l'information de catégorie de produits; une sélection d'un état cible souhaité à partir de la pluralité d'états cibles possibles au moyen de l'utilisateur; une détermination d'au moins un produit cosmétique, qui est approprié pour aboutir à l'état cible souhaité, à partir d'une pluralité de produits cosmétiques de plusieurs fabricants pour lesquels des données sur des états réalisables sont enregistrées dans une banque de données externe; une détermination d'une disponibilité du ou des produits cosmétiques sur le lieu de l'utilisateur; et une présentation du ou des produits cosmétiques en tenant compte de la disponibilité sur le lieu de l'utilisateur.
