Definitions
- the present invention relates to a metering device for the metered application of a highly viscous product to a substrate.
- the highly viscous product can be any type of pasty material, in particular those that can be described as stable.
- a stable, highly viscous product is a product that does not drip or run when applied because it is hardly fluent. Such a property is particularly important when applying to vertical or overhead surfaces.
- Examples of such highly viscous products are adhesives, products in the detergent sector, such as a self-adhesive toilet gel, cosmetic products such as, for example, a cream or a gel, or certain foods such as butter or a spread.
- adhesives are particularly suitable as highly viscous products, in particular assembly adhesives.
- These can be, for example, water-based systems, solvent-based systems or reactive systems.
- Such substances are often sold in standard cartridges and the consumer needs an appropriate cartridge gun to discharge the product from the cartridge.
- Cartridge guns are bulky, however, and can be difficult to handle for inexperienced users.
- the amount of product sold in commercially available cartridges is often too large for smaller applications in the home improvement sector, so that the consumer fears that part of the purchased product cannot be used.
- a dosing device for dispensing a self-adhesive toilet gel which comprises an inner and an outer housing, a volume of self-adhesive product and an automatic dispensing mechanism.
- the dispensing mechanism has a guide rod with a piston, locking elements being formed on the guide rod, which can interact with arms formed on the piston.
- a spring mechanism ensures that the device returns to an initial position after an actuation process.
- the guide rod is positioned within the product to be dispensed and is in contact with it. A defined amount of toilet gel can be dispensed by actuating the dosing device once.
- the in the WO 2011 / 112254A1 The device described is not suitable for the metering of assembly adhesives, since due to the position of the guide rod within the product mass, the absolute air and water vapor tightness of the system required for assembly adhesives is not provided.
- the smallest air and / or moisture inclusions between the guide rod and product or product residues adhering to the guide rod can cause the adhesive to harden within the metering device by means of a capillary or bridging action.
- Assembly adhesives in particular polymer-based, moisture-curing assembly adhesives, react extremely extremely to air and water vapor, and the curing mechanism starts immediately when they come into contact with them. In this respect, care must be taken to ensure absolute airtightness and water vapor tightness in the area of the assembly adhesive stock during storage and during the application of such adhesives.
- EP0248278 A2 relates to a dispenser for portioned individual dispensing of pastes or the like, with a housing tube and a pressure base for transporting the dispensed material contained in a sack in the direction of a dispensing opening and an actuating handle for displacing the pressure base outside the housing tube.
- the object of the present invention is therefore to provide a metering device for the metered application of a highly viscous product, in particular an assembly adhesive, to a substrate, by which the disadvantages of the prior art are avoided.
- the dosing device is characterized in that at least one latching element is formed on the inside of the housing and that a series of mutually adjacent latching recesses is formed on the piston, both the latching element and the latching recesses being arranged outside the receiving space, and in the case of one Actuation of the metering device engages the latching element in a latching recess on the piston, so that movement of the piston relative to the cartridge and thus dispensing the highly viscous product from the metering device can be effected by moving the housing relative to the cartridge, and after actuation of the Dosing device causes the return movement of the housing into its starting position, a transition of the latching element from the latching recess into an adjacent latching recess.
- actuation of the metering device or an actuation process is understood to mean placing the metering device on a substrate to be charged with the highly viscous product and moving the housing toward the substrate until a stop point is reached.
- the housing of the metering device serves as a handle unit for a user.
- the attachment point can be defined by the fact that the housing strikes the substrate with its first end or that it strikes the stop which is otherwise embodied on the metering device. In both cases, the movement of the housing towards the ground is limited by reaching the attachment point. With such an actuation, an exactly metered amount of product can be dispensed from the metering device per actuation process. In principle, a movement of the housing is also possible, which is stopped by the user before the attachment point is reached. However, a product quantity that does not correspond to the intended dosage quantity is applied in this way.
- the invention thus provides a locking mechanism in which at least one locking element formed on the inside of the housing engages in locking recesses formed on the piston, both the locking element and the locking recesses being arranged outside the receiving space and thus also outside the product mass, so that they have no contact with the highly viscous product to be dosed. In this way it is technically much easier to make the receiving space airtight and water vapor tight.
- the metering device according to the invention is therefore particularly suitable for the metered application of products which harden rapidly in contact with air and / or moisture, for example assembly adhesive.
- various other highly viscous products can also be applied to a substrate by means of the metering device according to the invention.
- the design according to the invention also allows the components of the latching mechanism to be glued or clogged, i.e. of the locking element and the locking recesses can be prevented, since these are always arranged outside the product mass. In this way, reliable operation of the metering device can be ensured.
- the latching element and the latching recesses cooperate in such a way that when the metering device is actuated, by moving the housing onto the ground to the latching element formed on the inside of the housing and engaging in a latching recess formed on the piston, the piston also moves in the actuating direction.
- actuating the dosing device i.e. For example, when the dosing device is removed from the substrate previously loaded with the highly viscous product, the housing returns to its starting position due to the restoring force caused by the spring element with respect to the cartridge, while the piston, in particular due to friction between the piston and the cartridge, does not follow this return movement. Rather, the piston remains in a position assumed when the metering device is actuated and advanced toward the first end of the housing.
- the latching element When the housing moves back into its starting position, the latching element passes from the latching recess into an adjacent latching recess, in which it then remains until the metering device is actuated again.
- the latching element can be designed to be slightly resilient or flexible, so that the transition into an adjacent latching recess is more easily possible, since the latching element can easily move radially outward at the moment of transition from one latching recess into an adjacent one.
- the mechanism described thus provides for a successive advance of the piston within the cartridge with a defined step size, as a result of which the highly viscous product to be dosed can be dispensed with a constant dosing quantity.
- the housing returns to its starting position relative to the cartridge after each actuation process of the metering device, while the piston is moved further and further towards the first end of the housing with each actuation within the housing and within the cartridge. Since the piston forms a boundary of the receiving space at the same time, this receiving space becomes smaller with each actuation of the metering device in accordance with the remaining product volume which decreases with each actuation and which is still within the receiving space. After actuation, the metering device according to the invention is immediately available for further actuation, without the user having to take certain precautions for this.
- the amount of product applied when the metering device is actuated depends on various parameters which are fixed for a given metering device. These parameters are the cross-sectional area of the cartridge or the piston and the stroke of the housing, to which the movement of the piston within the cartridge is coupled. The stroke of the housing is determined by the distance by which the housing can be moved from its starting position to the stop point.
- the latching recesses on the piston are delimited by latching projections which have an upper side facing the second end of the housing and an underside facing the first end of the housing, the upper side of the latching projections being substantially parallel to the metering device placed on a base Is aligned underground, while the underside is aligned at an angle of 30 ° and 60 °, preferably at an angle of approximately 45 ° with respect to the substrate.
- the different alignment of the underside and top of the locking projections ensures that the locking element engages firmly in the locking recess when the metering device is actuated and rests against the top of the locking projections, so as to ensure the transmission of the movement of the housing to the piston while after actuation the dosing device and when the housing is in its starting position relative to the cartridge, the angled underside of the locking projections allows the locking element to slide over the same and a transition of the locking element from the locking recess into the adjacent locking recess.
- the latching element can be formed all the way along the entire inner circumference of the housing or as a latching arm arranged at one point on the inner circumference.
- the metering device generally has at least two latching elements designed as latching arms for satisfactory operation of the metering device.
- the at least two latching arms are preferably arranged uniformly distributed over the inner circumference of the housing. Several, for example three or four locking arms can also be provided.
- the locking recesses on the piston can either be formed all around the piston or, when the locking element is designed as at least one individual locking arm, only in those regions of the piston which are opposite the at least one locking arm of the housing.
- the housing has an essentially circular cross section.
- the entire housing thus has a cylindrical shape.
- Such a form of housing lies particularly well in the hand of the user and facilitates use.
- the cartridge and the piston ideally also have a circular cross section.
- other cross-sectional shapes are also possible, for example elliptical or angular, as long as the cross-sectional shapes of the housing, cartridge and piston are coordinated with one another in such a way that the highly viscous product can be applied as intended.
- the housing of the metering device is designed to be non-slip on its outside, so that a user can operate the metering device without sliding off the housing acting as a handle unit.
- the outside of the housing can have, for example, grooves running perpendicular to the direction of use or knobs applied over a certain area.
- the housing can be provided with a rubber-like coating.
- the outside of the housing can additionally or alternatively also have recessed handles, which can further facilitate the handling of the metering device.
- a cover cap is provided, through which the discharge opening can be closed.
- the cover cap can be placed on the cartridge and / or the housing, so that in any case the discharge opening of the cartridge is closed and the highly viscous product held in the receiving space is protected against premature curing.
- Corresponding latching means and / or sealing means can be provided on the cover cap and on the cartridge or on the housing, so that the cover cap is securely held on the dosing device by snapping in and seals the receiving space even better, thus increasing the likelihood of air and / or further minimize moisture ingress.
- the cover cap in serve as a stand for the dosing device, for example during storage or presentation on a sales area.
- a proposal of the invention provides that at least one sealing element for sealing between the piston and the cartridge is formed on the piston.
- the at least one sealing element can be designed, for example, as a sealing ring arranged along the circumference of the piston, wherein the piston can have a corresponding circumferential receiving groove for receiving such a sealing ring. Only a single sealing element can be provided, but a plurality of sealing elements arranged essentially parallel to one another can also be provided.
- the at least one sealing element also increases the friction between the piston and the cartridge, so that the piston, as already stated above, does not follow this return movement after actuation of the metering device and when the housing moves back into its starting position rather, it remains in the position advanced during the actuation of the metering device and advanced within the housing until a renewed actuation of the metering device moves the piston further toward the first end of the housing.
- the end of the cartridge which has the dispensing opening is designed as an application head which can be placed on the substrate.
- an application head can be designed in such a way that it functions as a spacer between the dispensing opening and the substrate, so that the dispensing opening does not come into direct contact with the substrate.
- An embodiment of the invention provides that the cartridge can be replaced.
- the dosing device is not disposed of as a whole after the cartridge has been completely emptied. Rather, only the empty cartridge can be removed from the housing and disposed of, while the rest of the metering device can continue to be used.
- a new cartridge is introduced into the housing, any protective films or the like which, in the case of a cartridge designed as a refill pack, preventing the highly viscous product from unintentionally escaping must first be removed.
- a locking mechanism for example in the form of a pawl formed on the housing, can be provided, by means of which an inserted cartridge can be secured within the housing and which can be released in order to remove an empty cartridge from the housing.
- the metering device can be reused, whereby waste can be reduced.
- the refillability of the dosing device offers a price advantage for the consumer, since only new cartridges need to be purchased, but not the entire dosing device.
- the housing has areas in which a filling quantity of the highly viscous product can be read.
- the areas can be openings in the housing wall, but it can also be areas of the housing which are formed from a translucent material, so that a remaining filling quantity or a number that can still be carried out with the metering device can be carried out using a scale Actuating processes can be read.
- a scale can be arranged on the piston, for example. In this way, a user can easily calculate whether the remaining filling quantity is sufficient for a planned project, which is particularly important in the case of adhesives.
- HDPE hard polyethylene
- the spring element can for example be designed as a coil spring made of metal.
- the dosing device according to the invention is aimed in particular at the DIY area.
- the housing typically has a length between 10 cm and 25 cm and an outside diameter between 2 cm and 7 cm, preferably an outside diameter between 3 cm and 4 cm. This ensures that the dosing device lies comfortably in the hand and can be operated with one hand.
- the filling volume of a typical metering device is 15 to 50 g, preferably about 30 g.
- the metering device can, for example, be designed to deliver 20 dose units of 1.5 g each. Thanks to the exact dosing mechanism, the user can easily calculate how many dose units of the product he needs to apply for a desired purpose.
- an adhesive it is generally known or indicated on the packaging which amount of adhesive is required for holding what weight. Due to the easy and precise dosing, the user can easily determine the required amount of adhesive and apply it exactly.
- a metering device according to the invention with a highly viscous product for example an assembly adhesive, is also disclosed.
- the discharge opening can be designed as a circular or elliptical opening. However, it can also have a different, symmetrical or asymmetrical shape from these shapes. For example, it can be star-shaped or any polygon.
- the dosing device according to the invention With the dosing device according to the invention, highly viscous products can be applied to substrates of any orientation, i.e. Both on horizontally aligned workpieces, underlays, floors or ceilings as well as on workpieces, underlays or walls aligned vertically or at any other angle to the horizontal.
- the metering device can always be operated with one hand.
- the dosing device according to the invention is characterized, inter alia, in that the components forming the latching mechanism are arranged outside the product mass and have no contact with it. In this way, air- and moisture-curing, highly viscous products can be dosed precisely with the dosing device according to the invention and without further aids.
- a metering device designated in its entirety by 1, for metered application of assembly adhesive to a substrate 2 is shown.
- the metering device 1 comprises an essentially cylindrical housing 3, which has a first end 4 and a second end 5 as well as an outer side 6 and an inner side 7 facing the interior of the housing 3. On its outside 6, the housing 3 is provided with grooves 8 which have an anti-slip effect. Furthermore, the housing 3 has an opening 9, through which a scale is visible, by means of which a filling quantity of the assembly adhesive held in the interior of the housing 3 can be read.
- the scale indicates how many actuation processes can still be carried out with the metering device 1. In the example of Figure 1 are still 20 operations can be performed with the metering device 1.
- a cartridge 10 is arranged essentially within the housing 3. From the cartridge 10 is in Figure 1 only a lower region 11 emerging from the housing 3 at the first end 4 can be seen.
- the essentially cylindrical cartridge 10 forms a receiving space 14 for the assembly adhesive to be metered.
- Both the housing 3 and the cartridge 10 are issued bell-shaped at the first end 4 or in the lower region 11. In other words, the cross section of the cartridge 10 and the housing 3 increases in these areas.
- the housing 3 is movable with respect to the cartridge 10 in the directions indicated by the arrows A.
- a dispensing opening 12 is arranged in the lower region 11 of the cartridge, through which the assembly adhesive can be dispensed from the cartridge 10.
- the discharge opening 12 is closed by a cover cap 13.
- the cartridge 10 is designed in its lower region 11 as an application head which, after the cover cap 13 has been removed, can be placed on the base 2 with a peripheral edge 15 when the metering device 1 is actuated.
- the dispensing opening 12 is set back in relation to the peripheral edge 15, so that when the metering device 1 is placed with the rim 15 on a base 2, the dispensing opening 12 has no direct contact with the base 2. This is particularly true in Figure 3 clearly in which the metering device 1 is shown during an actuation process.
- the cartridge 10 also has a circumferential projection 16, which serves as a stop for the housing 3 during an actuation process of the metering device 1, as will be explained further below.
- a metal coil spring 17 is arranged between the cartridge 10 and the housing 3, the windings of which extend around the cartridge 10.
- the coil spring 17 rests on its end facing the dispensing opening 12 on a peripheral edge 18 formed on the cartridge 10 and is supported against the latter.
- projections 19 arranged on the inside 7 of the housing 3 can engage which compress the helical spring 17 when the housing 3 moves with respect to the cartridge 10, as will be explained in more detail.
- a piston 20 is inserted into the cartridge 10.
- the piston 20 delimits the receiving space 14 in a direction opposite the discharge opening 12.
- the piston 20 has recesses 21.
- Locking arms 22 formed on the inside 7 of the housing 3 can engage in these locking recesses 21.
- the locking recesses 21 are delimited by locking projections 23 which have an upper side 24 facing the second end 5 of the housing 3 and an underside 25 facing the first end 4 of the housing 3.
- circumferential sealing elements 27 are formed on the piston 20 for a seal between the piston 20 and the cartridge 10.
- the sealing elements 27 prevent assembly adhesive from escaping from the receiving space 14 defined by the cartridge 10 and delimited by the end 28 of the piston 20 in the direction of the second end 5 of the housing.
- the special arrangement prevents the assembly adhesive from coming into contact with the latching arms 22 and the latching recesses 21.
- Dosing device 1 shown has a length a of approximately 150 mm, a housing diameter b of approximately 32 mm and a diameter c of the cover cap 13 of approximately 45 mm.
- a filling quantity of approximately 30 g assembly adhesive can be accommodated in the cartridge 10.
- the cover cap 13 is first removed. In this starting position, the latching arms 22 are each in a latching recess 21.
- the dosing device 1 is then placed on the base 2 with the edge 15 formed on the cartridge 10, a user gripping the dosing device 1 in the region of the housing 3 equipped with grooves 8 .
- the housing 3 is now moved towards the base 2. Due to the locking between locking arms 22 and locking recesses 21, the piston 20 is moved with the housing 3. The piston 20 is thus moved within the cartridge 10 to the discharge opening 12 of the cartridge 10 and thus presses a defined amount of assembly adhesive out of the discharge opening 12.
- the length of the distance x by which the housing 3 and with it the piston 20 are moved during an actuation process, also referred to as the stroke of the housing 3, is limited by the circumferential projection 16 formed on the cartridge 10, to which the housing 3 is connected finally strikes its first end 4, see Figures 2 and 3rd .
- the metering device 1 is shown in its starting position, but still with the cover cap 13 attached.
- the distance x can be seen here by which the housing 3 can be moved out of its starting position and limited by the circumferential projection 16.
- the metering device 1 is shown in a position in which the first end 4 of the housing 3 strikes the circumferential projection 16.
- the distance x, by which the housing 3 and thus the piston 20 is moved per actuation process, is thus determined by the position of the circumferential projection 16, so that in this way the actuation process brought about by the piston feed at the same time Mounting adhesive volume is set.
- an adhesive point 26 of approximately 1.5 g of assembly adhesive is applied per actuation process.
- such an adhesive point 26 can cover an area of approximately 7 to 12 cm 2 .
- 20 adhesive points 26 can be applied in this way with the metering device 1.
- Such an adhesive point 26 can typically have an adhesive force of approximately 330 g.
- the coil spring 17 is compressed. As already mentioned, the coil spring 17 rests on a circumferential edge 18 at its end facing the discharge opening 12. Projections 19 arranged on the inside 7 of the housing 3 engage the end of the helical spring 17 facing away from the discharge opening 12 and press the helical spring 17 together when the housing 3 moves toward the base 2.
- the maximum compression of the coil spring 17 that can be achieved in the course of actuating the metering device 1 is reached when the housing 3 strikes the circumferential projection 16. This state shows Figure 3 , however, the compression of the coil spring 17 is only hinted at here and is not shown to the correct extent.
- the intended dose of assembly adhesive has been applied from the dispensing opening 12 and the metering device 1 can be removed from the substrate 2, the applied adhesive point 26 remaining as intended on the substrate 2, compare Figure 4 .
- the housing 3 and the cartridge 10 move back to their starting position relative to one another due to the restoring force of the helical spring 17, so that the first end 4 of the housing 3 again has the distance x from the circumferential projection 16 .
- the latching arms 22 formed on the housing 3 slide out of their respective latching recess 21 into the latching recess 21 which is arranged adjacent to the second end 5 of the housing, see FIG Figures 3 and 4th . This sliding is particularly well possible due to the different orientations of bottom 25 and top 24 of the locking projections 23 described above and a slightly flexible design of the locking arms 22.
- the different orientations of the upper side 24 and the lower side 25 have the effect that when the metering device 1 is actuated, the latching arms 22 each engage firmly in a latching recess 21 and bear against the top 24 of the corresponding latching projection 23, so that the To ensure transmission of the movement of the housing 3 to the piston 20, while after actuation of the metering device 1 and upon transition of the housing 3 into its starting position, the angled underside 25 of the locking projections 23 slides the locking arms 22 over the same and a transition of the locking arms 22 of the respective recess 21 in an adjacent recess 21 allows.
- the metering device 1 is now ready for a new actuation, whereby, according to the above statements, the piston 20 is pushed ever further towards the discharge opening 12 from actuation process to actuation process, while the housing 3 and the cartridge 10 relative to each other again after each actuation process take their starting position.
- the latching mechanism described has the effect that the same, defined amount of assembly adhesive is always applied with each actuation process, and the special arrangement of the individual components of the latching mechanism outside the assembly adhesive volume can prevent premature curing thereof within the cartridge 10. Due to the successive advancement of the piston 20 within the cartridge 10, it is also possible in a simple manner to completely remove the assembly adhesive volume from the cartridge 10 without the need for further aids, as is the case, for example, with corresponding adhesive tubes.
- the metering device 1 can always be operated with one hand.
