Definitions

  • the invention relates to a shaker, in particular a laboratory shaker, in particular for shaking and/or mixing samples containing liquid.
  • Shakers are used to shake and/or mix liquids in vessels, eg cell cultures, biofuels or blood samples.
  • the shaken unit often includes a tray on which the vessels, eg Erlenmeyer flasks, test tubes or other ampoules with the samples are located.
  • a high shaking frequency is desirable.
  • liquid can be spilled or splashed on the tray during the shaking process, and other components such as a drive of the shaker can also be contaminated.
  • EN19814013 discloses a shaker according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • the task is therefore to construct a shaker with a high shaking frequency, which is designed in such a way that the cleaning effort in the event of contamination is as low as possible.
  • the shaker comprises a frame, a tray for receiving one or more samples and a drive for the tray, in which a tray shaft is eccentric in a drivable hollow shaft is stored.
  • the shelf shaft is firmly connected to the shelf and secured against rotation relative to the frame.
  • the frame is preferably a rigid assembly of one or more elements that allows the shaker to be placed on or mounted on a work surface or incorporated into other equipment such as an incubator for cell culture or microbial applications.
  • the shelf is preferably a support whose surface area is greater than its height, e.g. a plate.
  • the samples are liquids, e.g. cell cultures, biofuels or blood samples, and are in vessels, e.g. Erlenmeyer flasks, test tubes or other ampoules.
  • the tray preferably includes attachment options for the vessels.
  • the drive for the tray preferably includes a motor, in particular an electric motor, and a mechanism for driving the shafts.
  • the hollow shaft is mounted on the frame, preferably with a ball bearing, and contains a cavity in which the tray shaft is located.
  • the tray shaft is mounted in the hollow shaft with a needle bearing and/or a ball bearing.
  • the bearing enables low-friction rotation and high shaking frequencies with a compact design.
  • the axes of rotation of the hollow shaft and the shelf shaft are parallel to one another, but have a spatial offset, ie an eccentric position. This eccentricity determines the deflection of the circular shaking movement of the tray.
  • the eccentricity of the tray shaft relative to the hollow shaft is at most 25 mm and in particular 1.5 mm.
  • the tray shaft is firmly connected to the tray during operation of the shaker, tray shaft and tray are secured against rotation relative to each other.
  • the connection is preferably designed in such a way that Tray can be removed from the tray shaft by the user, eg for cleaning.
  • the tray shaft engages in the center of gravity or in the geometric center of the tray, in order not to load the connection and the needle bearing with an imbalance.
  • the shaker advantageously includes a cover between the tray and the drive.
  • the cover is preferably sealed against the hollow shaft and preferably includes a trough.
  • it can be made of metal, plastic, glass or plexiglass, comprise one or more elements and partially or completely enclose the tray.
  • a trough would start from a plate at z ⁇ 0 in the entire xy plane up to a Height z>0 form a border around the shelf.
  • the trough could also be designed as a container around the entire tray including the sample vessels.
  • the cover prevents contamination of the drive with liquids or solid objects, for example if a vessel with a sample falls over and leaks or liquid is splashed.
  • the cover is also removable for the user. This facilitates the cleaning of the shaker, which is essential for further use, since persistent soiling of the shaker can contaminate further samples.
  • only the tray shaft is located between the tray and the cover, so that if it is dirty, only the tray, the tray shaft and the cover, and not other drive elements, have to be cleaned.
  • the tray shaft is countered Rotation secured to the frame.
  • a preferred embodiment of the security against rotation is described below.
  • the tray shaft is secured against rotation relative to the frame according to the present invention. This allows the drive and the safety mechanism to be relocated under the cover. This makes it easier to clean the shaker when it is dirty and, in addition, higher shaking frequencies and thus better mixing of the samples can be achieved.
  • the shaking frequency of the tray as a result of the drive is at least 1000 rpm, in particular at least 1400 rpm.
  • the shaker comprises a second hollow shaft, which is mounted on the frame, and a second tray shaft, which is mounted eccentrically in the second hollow shaft and is also secured against rotation on the connecting element.
  • the second shelf shaft has the same eccentric position relative to the second hollow shaft as the shelf shaft relative to the hollow shaft, so the structure of the shafts at both ends of the connecting element is analogous in this embodiment.
  • the hollow shaft has a pulley for driving via a toothed belt.
  • the toothed belt ensures the transmission of rotation from one motor shaft to the hollow shaft.
  • the shaking frequency can preferably be defined by the user.
  • a pulley for a drive through the toothed belt is also attached to the second hollow shaft, which has the same diameter as the pulley has on the hollow shaft. This ensures that the quill and the second quill rotate at the same frequency and in phase.
  • the shaker includes a gear train for driving the hollow shaft. At least one gear wheel is located on the hollow shaft and preferably also on the second hollow shaft.
  • the connecting element advantageously comprises an elastic element to compensate for changes in the distance between its two attachment points on the tray shaft and the second tray shaft. Such changes in distance can occur, for example, as a result of thermal expansion or as a result of inaccuracies in production, or they can be caused by a slightly phase-shifted rotation of the hollow shaft and the second hollow shaft.
  • the elastic element therefore allows the shaker to operate optimally even with mechanical inaccuracies and is therefore important for problem-free use over a long period of time.
  • the elastic element is a spring, in particular a leaf spring.
  • Other embodiments of the elastic element for example a piece of hard rubber, are conceivable.
  • At least one counterweight on the hollow shaft also contributes to smooth operation of the shaker for balancing an imbalance occurring due to eccentric mass distribution.
  • the counterweight or counterweights are preferably located on the side of the cover facing the drive so as not to be affected by possible contamination.
  • other shafts are also balanced with one or more counterweights, for example the shelf shaft.
  • the preferably at least one counterweight protects the bearings and enables continuous operation of the shaker with high shaking frequencies.
  • a preferred embodiment of the invention is in 1 and 2 shown.
  • 1 shows a view from below of a shaker according to an embodiment of the invention with frame 1, drive 3-6 and eccentrically mounted connecting element 11.
  • the shaker comprises a frame 1, which is made of metal or plastic, for example, and stands on four feet 2.
  • a motor such as an electric motor, which drives a pulley 3 .
  • Two further belt pulleys 4 and 5 are driven via a toothed belt 6, which prevents slippage.
  • the second belt pulley 4 driven by the toothed belt 6 is seated on a hollow shaft 7 which is rotatably mounted on the frame 1 via ball bearings 16 .
  • the second driven by the toothed belt 6 pulley 5 sits on a second Hollow shaft 18, which is preferably also rotatably mounted on the frame 1 via ball bearings 16.
  • a tray shaft 8 Inside the hollow shaft 7 there is a tray shaft 8 whose axis of rotation is parallel to that of the hollow shaft 7 .
  • the tray shaft 8 is mounted eccentrically in the hollow shaft 7, e.g. with an offset of the rotation axes of 1.5 mm, which leads to a circular movement of the tray shaft 8, in the example with a total deflection of 3 mm. Needle bearings 15 and/or ball bearings 19 are used for low-friction mounting of the tray shaft 8 in the hollow shaft 7 .
  • a tray 9 is firmly connected to the tray shaft 8 and serves as a platform or receptacle for sample vessels to be shaken.
  • the tray 9 can be equipped with a sample holder or have attachment options for Erlenmeyer flasks, test tubes or other ampoules. The tray 9 can be removed for cleaning purposes.
  • the tray shaft 8 is also firmly connected to a coupling rod 11, the attachment 13 of the coupling rod 11 on the tray shaft 8 not being rotatable.
  • the coupling rod serves as a connecting element to a second tray shaft 14.
  • the second tray shaft 14 is mounted eccentrically in the second hollow shaft 18, analogously and with the same eccentricity as in the arrangement of tray shaft 8 and hollow shaft 7.
  • the second tray shaft 14 is also on the coupling rod 11 secured against rotation, so that both the tray shaft 8 and the second tray shaft 14 are secured against rotation relative to the frame 1.
  • the coupling rod 11 is preferably a metal sheet that is welded to the tray shaft 8 and the second tray shaft 14 .
  • the two pulleys 4 and 5 on the hollow shaft 7 and the second hollow shaft 18 run in phase as a result of being driven by the toothed belt 6 .
  • connection of the coupling rod 11 to the second tray shaft 14 is ideally established by a leaf spring 12, which as an elastic element can compensate for changes in distance, e.g. as a result of thermal expansion or inaccurate manufacture.
  • the cover 10 between the tray 9 and the frame 1 including the drive mechanism, which is firmly connected to the frame 1 and sealed at the passage of the tray shaft 8 .
  • the cover 10 protects the drive mechanism from contamination by solid bodies and liquids, e.g. in the event that a sample vessel on the tray 9 tips over and leaks or liquids are splashed.
  • the cover 10 is preferably designed as a trough which is sealed against solids and liquids on the hollow shaft 7 . Only the tray 9, a part of the tray shaft 8 and the samples in the vessels on the tray 9 are located inside the trough. As a result, only these elements have to be cleaned when they are dirty, while the drive mechanism, which would be difficult to clean, remains clean.
  • At least one counterweight 17 is also fastened to the hollow shaft 7 and compensates for an imbalance that occurs as a result of the eccentric mass distribution of the tray 9 , sample holders, samples and tray shaft 8 .
  • a counterweight can also be attached to the tray shaft 8 in order to achieve dynamic balancing of the system. Compensating for the imbalance protects the bearings, reduces noise emissions and extends the service life of the drive.
  • the structure of the shaker described makes it possible to achieve high shaking frequencies of more than 1000 rpm and in particular from 1000 to 1600 rpm or more as a result of the drive.
