- FIG. 4B an arrangement of cooperating rolls 30A, 32A is depicted for forming ribs 22 and 22A in alignment with each other and extending from opposed surfaces 20, 18, respectively, of the support member 10A as shown in Fig. 2B .
- opposed rolls 30A, 32A have circumferential, countersunk grooves 34, 36 in axial alignment with each other to form the ribs 22, 22A, in the support member 10A shown in Fig. 2B .
- the arrangement of the counter sunk grooves 34 can be selected independently of the arrangement of the counter sunk grooves 36.
- the grooves 34, 36 can be in alignment with each other about the complete circumference of the rolls 30A, 32A, in which case the raised ribs 22, 22A on opposed surfaces of the substrate will be in alignment with each other, as illustrated in Fig. 2B .
- the grooves 36 in roll 32B can be out of axial alignment with the grooves 34 in rolls 30B as shown in Fig. 4C to provide ribs 22 that are out of alignment with ribs 22A.
- the counter-sunk grooves 34, 36 in the roll pairs 30A, 32A ( Fig. 4B ) and 30B, 32B ( Fig. 4C ), can be directly over each other, offset with respect to each other and/or skewed relative to each other, depending on the desired flow paths to be established in one or both surfaces of the support members, e.g., 10, 10A, 10B of this invention.
- a support member 10 includes 16 - 236 ribs per 10 cm (4 - 60 ribs per inch) on one side; more preferably 40 - 118 ribs per 10 cm (10-30 ribs per inch) and most preferably 79 ribs per 10 cm (20 ribs per inch).
- the spacing of the ribs may be asymmetrical if so desired.
- These ribs desirably can be formed in the machine direction of the support members 10, 10A, and 10B.
- each of the ribs 22, from the distal end 26 thereof to the proximal end 28 contiguous with the outer surface 20 of planar base section 16, is in the range of 0,05 mm - 1,02 mm (2 to 40 mils); more preferably in the range of 0,05 - 0,25 mm (2 to 10 mils) and most preferably about 0,08 mm (3 mils).
- the depth of the ribs can be varied over the structure, i.e., they may be asymmetrical if so desired.
- the opposed outer surface 18 can have the same arrangement, spacing and dimensions of ribs as extend from outer surface 20.
- the important feature in the method of this invention is that there are no sharp projections extending from any of the pattern forming rolls that could provide weakened or slit regions in the extruded substrate or that are intended to pleat the substrate.
- the filter support members of the filter member of this invention preferably are non-pleated, cast (non-oriented) sheets it is within the broad scope of the invention to subsequently pleat the support members after they have been provided with ribs and apertures therein. Also, as described in connection with Fig. 3B , it is within the scope of the invention to stretch or orient the support members after they have been apertured.

Claims (11)
- Élément de filtration (14) comprenant un substrat de filtre (12) et des feuilles de support (10) sur des côtés opposés dudit substrat de filtre (12), chacune desdites feuilles de support (10) étant extrudée à partir d'un matériau plastique fluoré thermoplastique, caractérisé en ce que chaque feuille de support (10) comprend une section de base (16) plane et continue ayant des surfaces externes (18, 20) opposées et des nervures (22) espacées s'étendant vers l'extérieur à partir de ladite au moins une surface externe selon un motif prédéterminé souhaité, lesdites nervures (22) comprenant une extrémité distale externe (26) et une extrémité proximale interne (28), ladite extrémité proximale interne étant continue avec une surface externe de ladite section de base (16), lesdites nervures (22) espacées coopérant avec une surface externe à partir de laquelle elles s'étendent pour fournir des segments de surface externe entre des nervures adjacentes fournissant des canaux d'écoulement continus liés par lesdites nervures (22) espacées adjacentes, chacune desdites feuilles de support (10) comprenant en outre des ouvertures (29) percées à travers toute l'épaisseur de celles-ci selon un motif prédéterminé non affecté par le motif prédéterminé des nervures dans chacune des feuilles de support (10), ledit motif prédéterminé d'ouvertures (29) comprenant des ouvertures s'étendant à travers des nervures et des segments de surface externe entre les nervures, lesdites feuilles nervurées et percées dirigeant un fluide contenant un matériau à filtrer le long de canaux et à travers des ouvertures (29) dans ledit substrat de filtre (12).
- Élément de filtration selon la revendication 1, dans lequel ledit substrat de filtre (12) est une structure monocouche.
- Élément de filtration selon la revendication 1, dans lequel ledit substrat de filtre (12) est une structure multicouche.
- Élément de filtration selon la revendication 1, dans lequel ledit substrat de filtre (12) est une structure multicouche, chacune desdites couches de ladite structure multicouche étant une couche non tissée.
- Élément de filtration selon la revendication 1, dans lequel ledit substrat de filtre (12) est une structure multicouche, lesdites couches de ladite structure multicouche comprenant une ou plusieurs couches obtenues par fusion-soufflage, des couches obtenues par filage direct, d'autres couches non tissées et des combinaisons de celles-ci.
- Élément de filtration selon la revendication 1, dans lequel lesdites feuilles de support (10) sont en outre caractérisées en ce que les nervures (22) espacées s'étendent vers l'extérieur à partir des deux surfaces externes (18, 20) desdites sections de base (16) continues de chacune desdites feuilles de support (10) selon un motif souhaité.
- Élément de filtration selon la revendication 1, dans lequel lesdites feuilles de support (10) sont en outre caractérisées en ce que ladite pluralité de canaux entre des nervures adjacentes s'étendent linéairement le long de chacune desdites feuilles de support (10).
- Élément de filtration selon la revendication 1, dans lequel lesdites feuilles de support (10) sont en outre caractérisées en ce que lesdites nervures (22) s'étendent en continu le long desdites feuilles (12) sans interruption dans celles-ci.
- Élément de filtration selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que chacune desdites feuilles de support (10) est une structure coulée non orientée.
- Procédé de formation de l'élément de filtration (14) selon la revendication 1, caractérisé par les étapes suivantes :l'extrusion d'une paire de substrats d'un matériau plastique fluoré thermoplastique à travers une filière d'extrusion sous la forme de feuilles continues et avant la mise en place desdites feuilles ;le passage desdites feuilles à travers une région de pincement fournie par des rouleaux (30, 32) opposés ayant des surfaces externes, lesdites surfaces externes étant exemptes de saillies s'étendant vers l'extérieur à partir de celles-ci, au moins une desdites surfaces externes comprenant des rainures fraisées (34, 36) à l'intérieur, lesdites rainures fraisées (34, 36) dans l'un desdits rouleaux (30, 32) étant alignées avec une surface externe ou des rainures fraisées (34, 36) dudit autre desdits rouleaux (30, 32) dans la région de pincement, de sorte que lesdites feuilles continues sont formées en feuilles nervurées (10), chacune desdites feuilles nervurées (10) ayant ladite section de base (16) plane et continue et des nervures (22) dressées s'étendant vers l'extérieur à partir d'au moins une surface externe de ladite feuille de base selon un motif souhaité ;la mise en place desdites feuilles nervurées ; par la suite,le perçage d'ouvertures à travers toute l'épaisseur desdites feuilles nervurées (10) selon un motif prédéterminé non affecté par le motif des nervures (22) dressées ; etle positionnement du milieu filtrant entre ladite paire de substrats.
- Procédé selon la revendication 10, caractérisé en ce que chacune desdites feuilles nervurées (10) mises en place est une feuille coulée non orientée.
