Description

Title: Device for parking cycles
DESCRIPTION The invention relates to a device for parking (bi)cycles comprising : a frame, which is rotatable around a rotation axis by means of first drive and control means; a number of cycle modules, which are coupled to the frame, wherein the modules are each arranged for containing a cycle; wherein the device is further arranged for vertical displacement of the cycle modules by means of the second drive and control means, in such a manner that each cycle can be entered into and removed from the device at a geometrically fixed access location by means of rotation of the frame and/or by means of vertical displacement of the cycle modules by means of respective first and second drive and control means. Such a device is the object of the invention of NL1041418, filed on 31-07-2015. In a short summary of this device: single cycle modules, driven by a rotary frame, are rotated in a horizontal plane and transported by means of vertical displacement means to and from the access location. This known device has the disadvantage that the position of one of the circle segments is occupied, because it is used for the vertical displacement of the modules, so that the capacity of the number of cycles per m2 decreases and the cost per parking space increases. The present invention proposes a simpler construction for such a device, in which use is being made of multiple (bi)cycle (multi-cycle) modules, in which multiple cycles can be placed, and in which the correct cycle location within said multi-cycle module is presented at the access location (filled with a cycle or just being empty) by means of vertical displacement of the multi-cycle module, after the correct rotation of the frame has been performed.
DE 10 2011 055 030 Al also shows a device having several floors for parking of (bi)cycles, wherein in the middle of a fixed cylindrical garage-device a rotatable manipulator is provided with a gripper arm. The manipulator parks the cycles in an empty space by positioning the rear wheel in a holding device provided on the cylinder wall. This known device has a number of disadvantages. The ground/base surface of this cycle-garage is large, because the manipulator for rotating the cycles occupies a large amount of space in the middle of the garage. Additionally, the cycles are parked with their rear sides facing the cylinder wall, so that the widest part of the cycle, the handlebars, is located in the tip of the cylinder segment, requiring that the cycles must be parked at a greater mutual distance, so that the number of cycles per m2 of floor surface is low. Furthermore, this known cycle-garage has the disadvantage that it comprises an open space, which is internally provided with racks for cycles. There are no cycle-modules or -boxes provided in which the user is able to park his cycle. Because the user is not able to park his cycle himself, a technically and structurally complicated, failure-prone manipulator is needed, which is expensive to purchase and to maintain. Moreover, when the cycle-garage comprises multiple stories (levels/floors), the manipulator has to be provided with a lifting mechanism with toothed belts. Therefore, the object of the invention is to provide a low cost device for parking cycles, wherein the cycles are placed in a cycle-module or -box, wherein the cycles may be parked easily at multiple levels and wherein the number of cycles per m2 floor surface is high. According to the invention a device for parking cycles is provided, comprising : a frame, which is rotatable around a rotation axis by means of first drive and control means; a number of multi-cycle modules, which are coupled to the frame, wherein the multi-cycle modules are each arranged to contain multiple cycles being positioned one above the other, wherein the device is further arranged for vertical displacement of the multi-cycle modules within the frame by means of second drive and control means, wherein the first and second drive and control means are arranged in such a manner, that each cycle is introduced and removed through a geometrically fixed access location by means of rotation of the frame and/or by vertical displacement of the multi-cycle modules within the frame.
Hereinafter, the invention will be further discussed by means of a description of the drawing.
Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of a device according to the invention;
Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of a device according to the invention;
Figure 3 shows a 3D artist's impression of the second embodiment; Figure 4 shows an embodiment of a multi-cycle module as used in the device according to the invention; Figure 5 shows a first embodiment of a rotatable frame, such as used in a device according to the invention;
Figure 6 shows a second embodiment of a rotatable frame, such as used in a device according to the invention.
Figures 1 - 3 each show a device 1 for parking (bi)cycles 2, comprising a rotatable frame 4 (carousel), which is rotatable about a rotation axis 3 by means of first drive and control means (not explicitly shown). A number of multiple-cycle modules 5 is coupled to the frame, wherein each multi-cycle module is arranged for containing cycles 2 one above the other in boxes 10 (i.e. compartments). Furthermore, the device 1 is arranged for displacing the multi-cycle modules 5 by means of second drive and control means 6, in such a manner that by means of rotation 7 of the frame and/or vertical displacement 8 of the cycle modules 5 by means of the first and second drive and control means, the cycles can be entered into the device and removed from the device through a geometrically fixed access location 9.
Figure 1 shows an embodiment wherein the rotatable frame 4 extends substantially above the fixed access location 9.
Figure 2 shows an embodiment wherein the rotatable frame 4 extends substantially under the fixed access location 9.
Figure 4 shows a multi-cycle module 5 as used in the device 1, comprising a number (six in the illustrated embodiment) of cycle compartments 10 arranged one above another.
Figure 5 shows a first exemplary embodiment of a rotatable frame 4 as used in a device 1 as shown in Figure 1. A number of multi-cycle modules 5 is provided in the frame, which modules can be displaced in the vertical direction 8 by means of drive means 11. Together with the axis of rotation 3 of the frame 4, the control means ensure that any desired compartment 10 of the multi-cycle module 5 can be brought before the access location 9, where a (bi)cycle 2 can be removed from the compartment 10 or where a cycle can be inserted and parked until the user reclaims the cycle. Near the access location 9 a user interface is provided, through which the user performs the required actions for parking of a cycle 2, like payment of the parking charges. Figure 6 shows a rotatable frame 4, such as used in a device 1 as shown in Figure 2, also provided with drive means 11 acting in the vertical direction 8 for vertical displacement of the multi-cycle modules 5, which are supported in their rest position on/between the "spokes" 12 of the frame 4 i.e. carousel.
In Figures 3 - 6 is shown that preferably the device 1 for parking cycles is provided with a substantially cylindrical shape. The cycle modules 5 (and also the compartments 10) are cylinder segments, which are located in a frame 4, which is arranged for receiving cylinder segments. Through rotation 7 of the frame 4 all cycle modules present in the frame are rotated simultaneously. In Figure 3 is shown that the cycle 2 is placed with its rear side in the tip of the cylinder segment, so that the handlebars of the cycle are positioned in the proximity of the cylinder wall. Preferably, the cylinder segment is provided with such a (tight) dimensions, that the cycle 2 can only be inserted and contained in the cycle module 5 with turned handlebars. Thereby, the cycle front wheel is turned over an angle of 45° or more with respect to the rear wheel. A compact and cost-efficient configuration for the device 1 comprises sixteen contiguous cylinder segments for receiving sixteen cycles in sixteen cycle modules on one floor or level. The diameter of the ground surface required for the device 1 is preferably between 450 and 600 cm; in particular, the diameter is about 510 cm. This allows for sixteen cycles to be parked on one floor in the device, on a surface area that is between 19 and 21 m2.
The device is operated as follows: If a cycle is parked, the system will assign a place, just like the system of NL1041418.
When the assigned location/box/compartment 10 is on the 5th floor of a multi-cycle module 5 near spoke 12, the carousel will transfer the multi-cycle module near spoke 12 to the lifting device, and subsequently the lifting device will transfer the required floor/5th box to street level, so that the (bi)cycle can be inserted in the box (or removed from the box).
When the garage-device 1 is placed above ground, a recess (i.e. shaft) is provided under ground level i.e. ground surface of the device for the purpose of receiving the lifting device and for receiving the (multiple) cycle module. The plateau of the lifting device is then incorporated in this recess, so that the carousel with the frame 4 and the cycle modules 5 rotate freely above the lifting platform. Subsequently, the required cycle module is positioned on the platform and then lowered into the shaft until the correct box/compartment 10 is positioned at street level.
When the system is located underground, a line angle is supporting the cycle modules on the short side and on the two long sides. On the side of the lifting device the frame is open. In that location a spoon lifts the cycle module. When the lower box 10 of the cycle module 5 is located at street level, a second frame, which is positioned above ground level, balances and supports the cycle module extending above ground level. This second frame is about 2.5 meters high and furthermore provides the space and location where the cycle is inserted and removed. Preferably, it comprises the equipment of the access and payment system.
