Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for producing a multi-layer body, a multi-layer body obtainable in this way and a security document with such a multi-layer body.
  • a well-known method for this is iris printing, in which different colors are applied side by side on a common inking roller of a printing press. When printing, these colors mix to create the desired color gradient. The exact course of However, gradients can hardly be controlled, so that a reproducible production of identical print motifs is hardly possible.
  • a very fine structuring of a multicolored image with motif parts that are exactly in register with one another is generally hardly possible with conventional printing processes because the register accuracy and edge sharpness are not sufficient for this.
  • multicolored fine lines can hardly be produced in this way.
  • fine screened motifs dry very quickly on a gravure roller due to the very small amount of ink required and are therefore very difficult to print.
  • Register accuracy means a positional accuracy of two or more elements and/or layers relative to one another.
  • the register accuracy should move within a specified tolerance and be as low as possible.
  • the register accuracy of several elements and/or layers relative to one another is an important feature in order to increase security against forgery.
  • the positionally accurate positioning can take place in particular by means of optically detectable fiducial marks or register marks. These registration marks or register marks can either represent special separate elements or areas or layers or themselves be part of the elements or areas or layers to be positioned.
  • the document DE 102 56 491 A1 describes carrier substrates with defined motifs and different color impressions on both sides of the carrier substrate, a method for their production using a washable printing ink, and their use.
  • the document EP 0 583 714 A2 describes a process for producing high resolution wash-off images with non-photosensitive elements and elements for use therein.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide an improved method for producing a multi-layer body with fine line patterns, such a multi-layer body and a security document with such a multi-layer body.
  • a multi-layer body is thus obtained with a first printed layer and a second printed layer arranged on a surface of the first printed layer, the first printed layer being structured using the second printed layer as a mask.
  • Such a multi-layer body can be used in a security document, in particular a banknote, a security, an identification document, a visa document, a passport or a credit card, in order to increase its security against forgery.
  • the first printed layer can in particular be applied over an area. It is thus possible to produce a multicolored motif, for example with color transitions, color gradients or even a true color image, without the problems described above when printing multicolored fine lines.
  • the second printed layer serves only as a mask, ie as a protective layer for the structuring of the first printed layer. Therefore, the second print layer can be applied in monochrome. In this way, fine line patterns can be produced in the second printing layer without the problems described above occurring when printing multicolored fine lines.
  • a finely structured first printed layer is thus obtained which has the fine line pattern of the second printed layer and the coloring produced when the first printed layer was applied.
  • fine, multicolored line structures with sharp edges and accurate register can be produced in a reproducible manner.
  • a first lacquer is used, which enters into a cross-linking reaction with a second lacquer used to apply the second printed layer.
  • the first lacquer where the second printed layer is applied can be changed by reaction with the second lacquer in such a way that it becomes particularly resistant to chemical substances used to structure the first printed layer, such as etching agents or solvents.
  • the first lacquer is preferably an alkali-soluble lacquer on an aqueous basis or on a solvent basis.
  • the paint from polyacrylic acid consist.

  • thin-film pigments thin-film pigments
  • cholesteric liquid-crystal pigments cholesteric liquid-crystal pigments
  • dyes and/or metallic or non-metallic nanoparticles metallic or non-metallic nanoparticles
  • the second paint is a PVC copolymer of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and dicarboxylic acid.
  • a lacquer is resistant to alkaline etching agents and can therefore serve as a protective lacquer or mask for structuring the first printed layer with such an etching agent.
  • the second lacquer is also a polyester lacquer with cellulose propionate.
  • Such a lacquer also has the desired alkali resistance and can therefore be used as a protective lacquer.
  • the second paint comprises a crosslinker, in particular polyisocyanate and/or polyaziridine.
  • crosslinkers carboxylic acid or hydroxyl groups of the two paints be cross-linked, so that the first and second print layer form a stable chemical bond.
  • the cross-linking renders the two print layers stable to alkaline etchants where the second print layer is applied to the first, allowing for patterning of the first print layer.
  • the first printed layer is structured by the action of an alkaline etching agent, in particular alkali hydroxide (NaOH) or alkali carbonate (Na 2 CO 3 ).
  • Etching agents of this kind can be used to dissolve and remove the first lacquer in those areas in which it is not protected by the second printed layer, so that the desired structuring results.
  • the alkaline etchant is used in a concentration of 0.5% to 3% and/or at a temperature of 20°C to 50°C and/or for a period of 0.5s to 5s . This ensures that the first printed layer is removed completely and with sharp edges in the areas in which it is not covered by the second printed layer.
  • the etching process can be promoted by agitating the etchant, targeted flow of the etchant onto the first printed layer, ultrasonic treatment, brushing and/or wiping.
  • the first printed layer is preferably applied in multiple colors, in particular in the form of a color gradient, color gradient or as a true-color image.
  • the desired motif remains in the form of multicolored fine lines that are congruent with the second printed layer.

  • the first printed layer can be applied in the form of a grid, in particular a cross-diagonal grid with a grid width of 40 cells/cm to 100 cells/cm and/or a depth of 15 ⁇ m to 45 ⁇ m.
  • the first and/or second printed layer can be applied by gravure printing.
  • the grids mentioned above can be realized by gravure printing.
  • the first and/or second printed layer can be applied by screen printing, in particular with a screen thickness of 90T to 140T or 90S to 140S.
  • the second printed layer is applied in the form of a graphic motif, alphanumeric character, logo, image, pattern, in particular a guilloche pattern.
  • the second layer of printing defines the final shape of the printed motif, while the first layer of printing only determines the coloring.
  • the first printed layer is applied to a layered composite comprising a carrier layer and optionally one or more of the following layers: a replication layer with a surface relief, a reflection layer, a protective layer, a volume hologram layer.
  • a layer composite comprising one or more of the following layers can also be applied to the first and/or second printed layer: a carrier layer, a replication layer with a surface relief, a reflection layer, a protective layer, a volume hologram layer.
  • a height-adjusting layer in particular a lacquer made from a combination of butyl acrylate and PMMA with a layer thickness of 0.5 ⁇ m to 3 ⁇ m, is applied to the first and/or second printing layer is applied.
  • the height compensation layer which is mechanically relatively flexible, levels out gradations that are formed when structuring the first printed layer and thus provides a smooth surface onto which the further layers can be applied cleanly.
  • At least one layer of the layered composite is structured using the second printed layer as a mask.
  • a further motif can be formed in register with the second printed layer. This makes it possible, for example, for the motif formed by the second printed layer to have a different appearance from different sides of the multi-layer body.
  • the at least one layer of the layer composite structured using the second printed layer as a mask is a metal layer.
  • the first print layer contains UV-fluorescent colorants.
  • a metal layer that is in register with the printed layers enhances the optical effect of the printed layers under UV radiation, since the metal layer appears black under UV light and reflects part of the incident UV light back into the printed layers on the back.
  • a photoresist layer is applied to the metal layer, exposed from the side of the second printed layer and removed during development in the exposed areas. You get a perfect match to the print layers Registered photoresist layer, which can then be used to structure the metal layer. The use of an external mask is not necessary.
  • the metal layer is preferably structured by etching.
  • the metal layer itself is thus structured in perfect register with the printed layers.
  • the first and/or second printed layer comprises a UV blocker which absorbs UV light in a wavelength range in which the photoresist layer is exposed. This improves the effect of the printed layers as a mask for the exposure of the photoresist layer.

  • the lacquer used for printing the second printed layer 13 is, for example, a solvent-based lacquer made from a PVC copolymer of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, dicarboxylic acid and a crosslinker, for example polyisocyanate or polyaziridine.
  • a crosslinker for example polyisocyanate or polyaziridine.
  • paint made from polyester and cellulose propionate and a crosslinker can be used Lacquer applied to the above-described acrylic lacquer used to print the first printed layer 12, this crosslinker reacts with the acrylic acid in this lacquer and thereby makes it alkali-resistant and thus resistant to a subsequent etching step.
  • the second printed layer 13 After the second printed layer 13 has been printed, it is treated with a preferably alkaline etchant, for example with alkali hydroxide (NaOH) or alkali carbonate (Na 2 CO 3 ).
  • a preferably alkaline etchant for example with alkali hydroxide (NaOH) or alkali carbonate (Na 2 CO 3 ).
  • the alkaline etchant is used in a concentration of 0.5% to 3% and/or at a temperature of 20°C to 50°C and/or for a period of 0.5s to 5s .
  • the etching process can be promoted by agitating the etchant, targeted flow of the etchant onto the first printed layer, ultrasonic treatment, brushing and/or wiping.
  • the first printed layer 12 thus provides the final coloring of the printed pattern, while the contour of the pattern is defined by the second printed layer 13 and the etching step. With this, high-resolution and edge-sharp multicolored line patterns can be generated.
  • a height compensation layer should be provided so that existing height differences in the partial printed layers 12, 13 do not impede subsequent process steps, in particular replication.
  • the motif created in this way from the printed layers 12, 13 is used as a mask for a further exposure step.
  • the motif is partially opaque to the radiation to be exposed due to the use of pigments, dyes and/or transparent blockers, in particular UV blockers.
  • UV-luminescent pigments and dyes which can already be provided in the printing layers 12, 13, absorb the UV radiation and thus advantageously already act as UV blockers in a subsequent exposure
  • a metal layer 115 can then be applied, for example by vapor deposition, sputtering, vapor deposition or the like.
  • a photoresist is then applied to this metal layer 115 and exposed through the motif and the metal layer 115 from the side of the motif formed by the printed layers 12 and 13 .
  • the non-crosslinked/unexposed portions of the photoresist are removed. This now covers the metal layer 115 congruently and in register with the printed layers 12 and 13. In a further etching step, the metal layer can now be partially demetallized so that the metal is also congruent with the printed layers 12, 13.
  • the metal layer 115 can intensify the optical effect of this motif when irradiated with UV light, since the metal layer 115 itself appears black in UV light and thus increases the optical contrast and at the same time reflects parts of the UV light back into the printed layers 12, 13 on the back
  • the optical effect of the multi-layer body 1 can also be significantly modified by combining the printed layers 12, 13 with layers that are transparent in the visible range but block specific spectral ranges in the UV range. This is particularly useful when the print layer 12 contains UV-fluorescent colorants.
  • a PET film blocks the spectral range below a wavelength of 310 nm. This means that the optical effect, for example when the colorants in the printed layer 12 are excited with a light wavelength of 365 nm, can be reduced the front and with a light wavelength of 254 nm from the back of the multilayer body 1 look different.
  • the second printed layer 13 can also optionally have such a UV blocker.
  • This can be benzophenone 6, for example.
  • the second printed layer 13 can also be colored with pigments and/or dyes that are visible in the visible spectral range.
  • One example is to print the first print layer 12 with a translucent optically variable pigment such as Merck's Iriodin® or BASF's Lumina® .
  • the second printed layer 13 is then only printed overlapping the first printed layer 12 in certain areas, and the iriodin is removed where the second printed layer 13 is not present.
  • the result is a motif in the color of the second printed layer 13, which is partially covered with the Iriodin of the first printed layer 12.
  • the Iriodin and the second printed layer 13 are arranged in perfect register.
  • a metameric color effect results in which, depending on the viewing angle, the surfaces look almost identical without iriodin or under a different one Viewing angles differ due to the transparency and simultaneous optical variability of the Iriodin.
