Definitions
- the present invention relates to a component of an exhaust system for an internal combustion engine, in particular a motor vehicle, having the features of the preamble of claim 1.
- the invention also relates to an exhaust system equipped with at least one such component.
- a generic exhaust system component in the form of a muffler known.
- Such a component comprises a housing which has a jacket, two end floors and at least one intermediate floor.
- the shell encloses an interior of the housing in a circumferential direction, while the two end floors define the interior at opposite ends in an axial direction and are fixedly connected to the shell.
- the intermediate floor is arranged axially between the end floors in the interior and is supported radially on the jacket.
- holders For holding an exhaust system on a periphery of the exhaust system, for example on an underbody of a motor vehicle, holders are used, which are fixedly connected at one end with a structure of the periphery of the exhaust system and the other end with a structure of the exhaust system.
- Preference is given to welded joints are used.
- said holding body may be welded to the jacket or to one of the end shelves.
- an exhaust manifold with integrated muffler in which a plurality of exhaust gas flow through exhaust manifolds are fixed via a flange on the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and hineinerarranged into a housing of the muffler.
- the silencer housing is attached to the manifold pipes and thus also fixed to the cylinder head.
- the present invention is concerned with the problem of providing an improved embodiment for a component of the type mentioned above or for an exhaust system equipped therewith, which is characterized in particular by the fact that the possibility of a connection to a periphery of the exhaust system is improved. In particular, the risk of damage to the component during operation of the exhaust system should be reduced.
- the invention is based on the general idea, with the help of at least one holding tube on the housing to create a stop that allows a high power transmission between an attacking on the holding tube holder and the component.
- the respective holding tube is held in the interior of the housing to said intermediate floor and passed through one of the end floors and attached thereto.
- the holding tube is also sealed gas-tight, such that no exhaust gas can escape through the holding tube in the environment of the component.
- a stop is provided according to the invention with the help of the holding tube at a side facing away from the interior of the outside of said end floor, to which a holder for holding the component or the exhaust system can attack on a periphery.
- the risk of damaging the end base or the jacket is reduced, so that it is also readily possible to use reduced wall thicknesses for the realization of the jacket or of the respective end floor.
- gas-tight in the present context is to be understood as a sufficient seal against the gases typically occurring in an exhaust system, ie exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine and air.
- the respective holding tube is at least radially held or supported on the respective intermediate bottom.
- bending moments which are transmitted to the housing via a holding tube engaging on the holder, are particularly favorable supported by the holding tube on the respective end floor and on the other intermediate floor, the forces occurring due to the axial distance between the end floor and intermediate bottom are relatively small.
- a welded joint between the holder and the holding tube is largely relieved of these moments.
- an axial distance between the end base, through which the holding tube is passed, and the intermediate bottom, on which the holding tube is supported comparatively large.
- this axial distance can amount to at least 50% of a diameter of the housing.
- the distance is at least 100% of the diameter of the housing.
- the respective holding tube thus serves for fastening a holder to the housing, with which the component can be connected to the periphery of the exhaust system.
- the holding tube is gas-tight, so that it does not allow gas exchange between the interior of the housing and the environment of the component.
- the retaining tube is in any case neither an inlet tube through which exhaust gas can enter the housing, nor an outlet tube through which exhaust gas can escape from the housing.
- the end floor may have a bottom opening through which the holding tube is passed and which is enclosed by an annular collar which is gas-tight and firmly connected to the holding tube.
- an annular collar which is gas-tight and firmly connected to the holding tube.
- a welded joint can be used, for example in the form of a peripheral weld, in order to simultaneously realize the fixation and the seal.
- a solder joint or an adhesive bond can also be used here.
- the use of an annular collar, which is issued by the respective end floor, so-called “draft” or so-called “Austulpung” improves the power transmission between the holding tube and the end floor, so that larger forces can be transmitted.
- a holder for connecting the component to a periphery of the exhaust system may be attached to the holding tube on a side facing away from the interior of the outside of the respective end base.
- a holder for connecting the component to a periphery of the exhaust system may be attached to the holding tube on a side facing away from the interior of the outside of the respective end base. In this case, the holder counts to the scope of the component, which facilitates a proper fixation of the holder to the component.
- the holder may have a tubular body which is axially inserted with the holding tube and is firmly connected to the holding tube.
- the tubular body can be inserted into the holding tube. It is also conceivable arguestecken the tubular body on the holding tube.
- the holding tube may end in the area of the bottom opening.
- the tube body is slipped onto the holding tube, the holding tube projects axially beyond the end base.
- a firm connection between holding tube and tubular body can be realized particularly easily, for example via a corresponding press fit.
- a welded connection is preferred for a simplified assembly.
- a solder joint or an adhesive bond is conceivable.
- tubular body, the holding tube and the annular collar can be fastened to each other by means of a common weld seam. This makes it possible to realize the component with attached holder particularly simple and inexpensive.
- the holding tube may have a stepped cross-section, wherein the holding tube in the region of the end base has a larger cross-section than in the region of the intermediate bottom.
- the stepped one Holding tube is very easy to assemble.
- the holding tube can be inserted through the bottom opening in the housing.
- the tubular body can be inserted into the holding tube, wherein an annular step of the holding tube, which separates two regions of different cross sections, serves as an axial stop for limiting the insertion depth of the tubular body.
- the stepped construction of the holding tube thus receives an additional function, which simplifies the production of the component with holder.
- the holder may have a holding arm having a holder opening into which the holding tube is inserted, wherein the holding arm is fixed in the region of the holding opening on the holding tube.
- a welded connection a soldered connection or an adhesive connection may be considered, with a welded connection being preferred here as well.
- the holding tube protrudes axially beyond the respective end floor, so that on the outside of the holding arm can be attached to the holding tube. Nevertheless, such an arrangement is relatively compact and allows a large power transmission between the holder and housing, namely on the holding tube.
- the holding arm may be a hollow body and having two parallel walls, which are preferably fixedly connected to each other and each having a wall opening, which together form the holder opening, wherein the holding tube is fixedly connected to both walls.
- the holding arm to a sheet metal part, which is made of a single piece of sheet metal by forming.
- the support arm may also be a shell body, so be made of two or more shells.
- the support arm is made bivalve, so that two shells are provided, each having one of the walls and which may be secured to each other in a suitable manner, for example by means of welded joints.
- the walls may have passages, each forming a wall opening enclosing the associated wall opening, which improves the transmission of power between the holding tube and the wall. Also, circumferential welds can then be easier to produce.
- the holding tube may be fastened to the intermediate bottom on a side facing the respective end bottom.
- the holding tube is supported not only radially but also axially on the intermediate bottom, which improves the structural integration of the holding tube in the housing.
- the holding tube can pass through the intermediate bottom in a corresponding bottom opening and be radially supported at an opening edge.
- the holding tube penetrates the intermediate bottom. This can simplify the production, in particular when the holding tube is loosely supported on the intermediate bottom to form a sliding seat, so that relative axial movements between holding tube and intermediate bottom are possible, for example for reducing thermally induced stresses.
- the holding tube may have a closure which seals the holding tube in a gastight manner.
- the closure preferably represents a separate component with respect to the holding tube, which subsequently attached to the holding tube or installed in the holding tube. The gas-tight closing of the holding tube ensures that no gas exchange between the interior and an environment of the housing can take place through the holding tube.
- the closure can in principle be designed as a partition wall, which is inserted in the region of an axial end of the holding tube in the holding tube and is connected in a gastight manner with the holding tube.
- the partition may in principle be arranged at any position between the inner end of the holding tube and the outer end of the holding tube, wherein in addition a positioning at the inner end and a positioning at the outer end are possible. If the partition wall is arranged at one of the axial ends of the holding tube, the holding tube surrounds a cavity which is either open only to the interior or is open only to the surroundings of the housing.
- the dividing wall simultaneously divides the cavity of the holding tube into an inner section communicating with the inner space and an outer section communicating with the surroundings of the housing.
- the cavity open to the interior or the interior section open to the interior can in a preferred embodiment additionally be equipped with a gas guidance function and / or with a sound guidance function.
- the holding tube may have a perforation, whereby said cavity of the holding tube or said inner portion of the holding tube is in communication with a holding chamber surrounding the first tube.
- This first chamber may be separated, for example, by the intermediate bottom of a second chamber.
- the open inner end of the holding tube may be connected to the second space through the intermediate bottom.
- a connection between the two chambers can be made through the holding tube, for example, to allow a corresponding gas flow and / or to effect a certain sound conduction.
- the first chamber may be a resonance chamber or an absorption chamber.
- the closure is designed as a cap which is attached to an axial end of the holding tube.
- the holding tube has no gas-conducting and / or sound-conducting effect.
- the holding tube can be particularly easily integrated into existing concepts of such a component.
- the cap can be arranged on the holding tube in the region of the end tube through which the holding tube passes, so that the cavity enclosed by the holding tube is open in the interior of the housing.
- Conceivable here is a targeted tuning of the holding tube as a resonance muffler, for example in the form of a ⁇ / 2 tube or in the form of a ⁇ / 4 tube.
- the cap can be arranged in the region of the intermediate bottom on the holding tube and be firmly connected to the intermediate bottom and to the holding tube.
- the fixation of the holding tube on the false bottom is not directly, but indirectly, namely on the cap.
- this can greatly simplify the fixation of the holding tube on the intermediate bottom. It is conceivable in particular a separate production of the holding tube with cap and a later installation of this assembly consisting of holding tube and cap in the housing. Appropriately, this assembly can be tested for their gas tightness prior to their installation in the housing, resulting in a high reliability for each component.
- the fixation between the assembly and the intermediate floor can be produce particularly simple, for example by means of a welding point, which connects the intermediate bottom firmly with the cap.
- the intermediate bottom may have a complementary to the axial end face of the holding tube or complementary to the cap shaped recess, so that a recess enclosing peripheral edge allows a positive radial support of the holding tube on the intermediate bottom. At least can be effected during assembly with the help of such depression centering or positioning.
- an opening in the intermediate bottom may be formed, whereby a cavity enclosed by the holding tube is connected to a chamber of the housing, which is arranged on the intermediate bottom on a side remote from the holding tube, when the holding tube ends open in the depression.
- This component is preferably a silencer.
- the component may also be a catalyst or a particulate filter.
- combined components are also conceivable if at least two members from the group consisting of muffler, catalytic converter and particle filter are arranged in a common housing.
