- Installation for consolidating a batt of fibres, for example a nonwoven web, comprising a mechanical-consolidation workstation using needlepunching from which the fibre batt emerges in a machine direction, referred to as MD direction, characterized in that there is provided downstream of the consolidation workstation a device (2) for stretching the batt of fibres in the CD direction perpendicular to the MD direction and parallel to the plane of the batt, notably before it is wound onto a reel, the device (2) for stretching in the CD direction being arranged in such a way that the fibre batt, notably the nonwoven web, is stretched more at the edges than at the centre of the batt, the profile of the stretching force as a function of the transverse abscissa axis being U-shaped.

- Installation according to Claim 2 or 3, characterized in that the grooved element is an anvil (12), notably a shaped anvil, in which are formed grooves intended partially to accept the rings in order to effect cross stretching, namely stretching in the CD direction, of the batt, notably of the nonwoven, passing between the ringed roller and the grooved anvil.
- Installation according to one of Claims 2 to 4, characterized in that, in order to create nonuniformity in the force of stretching in the cross direction or CD direction of the nonwoven leaving the needlepunching stage, measures are taken to ensure that the rings or discs of the activation roller or rollers are not evenly spaced apart, and notably measures are taken to ensure that the inter-disc or inter-ring distances of the rollers are smaller towards the edges than towards the centre, in order thus to increase the degree of stretch at the edges in relation to the centre.
- Installation according to one of Claims 2 to 5, characterized in that, in order to create nonuniformity in the force of stretching in the cross direction or CD direction of the nonwoven leaving the needlepunching stage, measures are taken to ensure that the rings or discs of the activation roller or rollers do not have a diameter that is constant from one disc to the next in the CD direction, and notably measures are taken to ensure that the diameters of the discs or rings of the roller or rollers are larger towards the edges than towards the centre, for example increase from the centre towards the edges, in order thus to increase the degree of stretch at the edges in relation to the centre.
