Definitions

  • the invention relates to a portion capsule which contains a particulate, water-soluble or suspendable beverage substance and is preferably adapted for use with a portion capsule brewing machine.
  • Portion capsules with a capsule lid and a capsule bottom, which are closed on all sides in the delivery state and contain a particulate beverage substance are, for example, from WO 2006/053635 A known.
  • a portion capsule can be used in a matched brewer to brew a hot beverage with the contents of the capsule, for example, a coffee beverage when the portion capsule contains ground roast coffee (ground coffee).
  • ground coffee ground roast coffee
  • the hot water first encounters a distributor device with a circular distributor surface and passes through water passage openings in the distributor surface to the beverage substance.
  • ingredients are extracted from the roasted coffee, and eg filter coffee or espresso leaves the portion capsule over the opening created by the second mandrel on the capsule bottom.
  • a portion capsule from the WO 2006/053635 A known type is also in EP 1 555 219 A disclosed.
  • Below the capsule lid is a distribution device, above the capsule bottom a sieve or filter device and coffee ground between them.
  • the capsule bottom is provided with a passage, which is sealed in the delivery state with a gas-tight film.
  • EP 1 980 501 A discloses a similarly constructed portion capsule in which a filter element is provided with numerous passage openings with slot-like inlet areas.
  • WO 2010/093246 A shows a capsule with a lid having in its outer region two concentric rows, each with numerous holes.
  • the inner area of the capsule is filled by a cylindrical construction, which participates in the foaming of the capsule contents.
  • beverage substances such as milk powder by no means completely dissolve when such beverage substances form the content of a portion capsule and the portion capsule is equipped with a conventional distribution device.
  • the portion capsule according to the invention has a capsule lid and a capsule bottom and is closed on all sides in the delivery state. It contains a particulate, water-soluble or suspendable beverage substance. Between the capsule lid and the beverage substance, there is arranged a distributor device which has a substantially circular distributor surface with a center and a radius R and is provided with water passage openings. In the distributor surface, one to four inner water passage openings are provided at a distance a from the center, and two to six outer water passage openings are provided at a distance b from the center, but no further water passage openings.
  • a and b are in certain relations to the radius R, namely, 0.21 ⁇ R ⁇ a ⁇ 0.49 ⁇ R (preferably, 0.30 ⁇ R ⁇ a ⁇ 0.38 ⁇ R ) and 0.65 ⁇ R ⁇ b ⁇ 0.92 ⁇ R (preferably 0.84 ⁇ R ⁇ b ⁇ 0.92 ⁇ R).
  • the beverage substance is particulate and soluble or suspendable in water. Examples are milk powder, sugar, soluble coffee or mixtures thereof.
  • the beverage substance when using the portion capsule in a portion capsule brewing machine, for example, from the WO 2006/053635 A known brewing machine or a similar, as completely as possible to be discharged from the portion capsule. Therefore, for example, roasted coffee does not fall under a beverage substance in the context of the invention, because roasted coffee grounds is usually retained by a filter that is in in the WO 2006/053635 A Portion capsules are already installed in the portion capsule.
  • the water passage openings are substantially circular and have a diameter in the range of 0.6 mm to 1.4 mm, preferably in the range of 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm, and particularly preferably a diameter of about 1 , 0 mm.
  • the water passage openings can all have the same diameter.
  • the inner water passage openings preferably two pieces
  • the outer water passage openings preferably four pieces
  • the two inner water passage openings and two of the outer water passage openings can lie on the same diameter line of the distributor surface.
  • the radius R of the distributor surface is in the usual portion capsules in the range of 16 mm to 21 mm and is preferably about 18.5 mm.
  • the distribution device is specified quite precisely. At first glance, it seems plausible to arrange the water passage openings as desired at the distributor device. Experiments have shown, however, that beverage substances such as milk powder are then dissolved particularly efficiently by hot water and discharged from the portion capsule when the distributor is such as defined in the above specification.
  • the distributor device may have an edge which is angled away from the distributor surface and which surrounds the distributor surface and which preferably rests with its free end on a step in the wall of the portion capsule. Furthermore, from the central region of the distributor surface, a conical depression can extend, which extends in the direction of the beverage substance. This recess can receive a mandrel of a brewing machine piercing the capsule lid to direct water to the distributor but not damage the distributor.
  • a screening device is arranged between the capsule bottom and the beverage substance.
  • a conical depression extends from a central region of the sieve device and extends in the direction of the beverage substance.
  • Such a screening device as such is for example from WO 2006/053635 A known.
  • the portion capsule shown in this document contains roasted coffee powder.
  • the sieve device which is located between the roasted coffee powder and the capsule bottom, essentially covers the lower cross-sectional area of the portion capsule and is provided with sieve openings, is intended to prevent coffee particles from being dispensed from the portion capsule during the brewing of coffee with the help of the portion capsule.
  • the sieve thus acts like a filter.
  • the screening device of the portion capsule according to the invention acts namely as a flow resistance, which reduces the flow through the portion capsule, so that the hot water lingers longer in the portion capsule and more time is available to solve the beverage substance (or suspend). Furthermore, the screening device prevents lumps of beverage substance from being washed out of the portion capsule.
  • the sieve device can also influence foaming.
  • the screening device can be designed as from the prior art (eg WO 2006/053635 A ) known.
  • the openings in the screening device for use in the portion capsule according to the invention can be optimized by means of tests.
  • a conical depression extends from a central region of the sieve device and extends in the direction of the beverage substance.
  • This depression can accommodate a thorn, which when using the portion capsule in a brewing machine (eg. From the WO 2006/053635 A known brewing machine) pierces the capsule bottom to create an outlet for the beverage. In this way, damage to the screening device through the mandrel can be avoided.
  • the portion capsule is adapted for use with a conventional portion capsule brewing machine, for example with the one from WO 2006/053635 A known brewing machine.
  • the portion capsule preferably has the same or similar dimensions as a conventional portion capsule, which is used with such a brewing machine.
  • a milk coffee beverage can be prepared by first inserting a conventional capsule with ground roasted coffee into the brewing machine and then using a portioned capsule of the invention filled with milk powder. In this way, in the freshly brewed coffee is very efficient and taking advantage of practical the total amount of milk powder milk available. Problems that occur with ordinary milk (eg limited shelf life, frequent rinsing of machine parts) can thus be avoided.
  • FIG. 1 An embodiment of a portion capsule 1 is in FIG. 1 shown in a longitudinal section.
  • the portion capsule 1 can be used, for example, in a portion capsule brewing machine, as shown in the WO 2006/053635 A is described.
  • the portion capsule 1 is essentially cylindrically symmetrical and has a capsule lid 2, a capsule bottom 4 and a lateral wall 6. In its upper part, the wall 6 is provided with a step 7.
  • the capsule bottom 4 includes in the embodiment an opening 8 which is closed from the inside with a sealed-foil 9.
  • the capsule body having the capsule bottom 4 and the wall 6, made of plastic.
  • the capsule lid 2 consists of an aluminum foil, which is sealed at its outer edge to an annular flange projecting outwardly from the wall 6.
  • the film 9 is also made of aluminum. It can be easily penetrated by a thorn on the portion capsule brewing machine than the plastic material of the capsule body.
  • the portion capsule 1 is filled with milk powder M, which is soluble in water.
  • milk powder M which is soluble in water.
  • Other water-soluble or suspendable beverage substances are also conceivable, as explained above.
  • the milk powder M extends from the capsule base 4 as far as a distributor device 10, which is arranged at a small distance below the capsule cover 2.
  • the distributor device 10 has a circular distributor surface 12, from the periphery of which an edge 14 extends down to a free end 15.
  • a conical depression 16 is provided, see in particular FIG. 4 , which extends like the edge 14 down.
  • FIG. 1 in the assembled state of the portion capsule 1, the edge 14 on the level 7 in the wall 6 on.
  • the recess 16 serves to receive a puncture mandrel of the brewing machine, without causing the distributor device 10 is damaged.
  • the distributor surface 12 is provided with water passage openings, in the exemplary embodiment with two inner water passage openings 18 and four outer water passage openings 19. In the exemplary embodiment, all six water passage openings 18, 19 circular and have the same diameter, namely 1.0 mm.
  • the inner water passage openings 18 and the outer water passage openings 19 are each uniformly distributed on the distributor surface 12. Two of the four outer water passage openings 19 are aligned along the same diameter line as the two inner water passage openings 18.
  • the distance a of the two inner water passage openings 18 from the center Z of the distributor surface 12 in the exemplary embodiment is 0.34 ⁇ R.
  • the distance b of the four outer water passage openings 19 is 0.88 ⁇ R.
  • the arrangement and size of the water passage openings can vary within certain limits in order to achieve the desired effect.
  • This effect namely a particularly effective discharge of the milk powder M from the interior of the portion capsule 1, is achieved particularly well with the distribution device 10 according to the described embodiment.
  • the radius R of the distributor surface 12 is about 18.5 mm.
  • the distributor device 10 is manufactured in one piece from plastic in the exemplary embodiment.
  • the distribution surface 12 need not be flat, as in FIG. 2 but may also contain profiles or depressions.
  • the portion capsule 1 may be used, for example, in the following manner.
  • a conventional portion capsule brewing machine in which also the portion capsule 1 fits, and a conventional portion capsule containing ground coffee, brewed coffee and bottled in a cup. Then you put the portion capsule 1 in this brewing machine and initiates another brewing process.
  • a first mandrel of the brewing machine pierces the capsule lid 2 and enters the depression 16, but does not damage the distributor device 10.
  • a second mandrel of the brewing machine ruptures the film 9 on the capsule bottom 4. Hot water from the brewing machine passes through the first spike or through the opening on the capsule cover 2 to the distributor surface 12 and from there through the six water throughflow openings 18, 19 to the beverage substance, namely the milk powder M.
  • the distribution and dimensioning of the water passage openings 18, 19 ensures that the hot water very efficiently passes to the milk powder M and the milk powder M moves and dissolves, so that the milk formed from the milk powder M on the created by the second mandrel Opening leaves the portion capsule 1 and runs into the already brewed coffee.
  • This process is relatively fast, and the portion capsule 1 is largely emptied.
  • the brewing machine can be set up so that it automatically recognizes the portion capsule used in each case and adapts the course of the brewing process (eg pressure or hot water temperature) to the respective portion capsule.
  • FIG. 5 Another embodiment of a portion capsule, designated 20, is shown.
  • the portion capsule 20 is largely similar to the portion capsule 1, which is why in FIG. 5 for corresponding parts the same reference numerals as in FIG. 1 are used.
  • a screening device 22 is provided as an additional part, which is arranged between the capsule bottom 4 (with foil 9) and the milk powder M.
  • a bottom zone 24 of the screening device 22 includes a plurality of screen openings (in FIG. 5 not shown) suitable for liquid are permeable but retain particles from a size dictated by the size of the screen openings.
  • a conical depression 26 extends upwards onto the milk powder M.
  • the recess 26 may (similar to the recess 16) receive a mandrel of the brewing machine, which pierces the film 9 when using the portion capsule 20 to provide a discharge opening.
  • the screening device 22 is not damaged. With a peripheral, raised and outwardly projecting edge 28 of the screening device 22 rests on a step 29 which is formed on the wall 6 of the portion capsule 20.
  • the screening device 22 may be designed in a conventional manner, such as from WO 2006/053635 A known. It acts as a flow resistance reducing the flow through the portion capsule 20 so that the hot water lingers longer in the portion capsule and more time is available to dissolve (or suspend) the beverage substance (milk powder M). Furthermore, the screening device prevents lumps of beverage substance from being flushed out of the portion capsule.
  • the sieve device 22 can also influence foam formation on exit from the portion capsule.
