Tiefdruckfarbe benötigt eine niedrige Viskosität, um aus den tieferliegenden Rasternäpfchen bei guter Entleerung auf das Papier übertragen werden zu können. Diese niedrige Viskosität wird im Wesentlichen über einen hohen Anteil an Lösemittel (z.B. Ethanol oder Ethylacetat) mit niedrigem Siedepunkt in der Farbe erreicht. Bei einem nicht im Einsatz befindlichen Farbwerk bedeutet dies nunmehr, dass das Lösemittel auch bei Raumtemperatur aus der Farbe verhältnismäßig schnell verdunsten und somit die Farbe in den Näpfchen verhältnismäßig schnell festtrocknen kann.
Ein aus einer Tiefdruckmaschine herausgenommenes Farbwerk wird daher üblicherweise gereinigt, indem Farbwanne geleert und das Farbwerk von Restfarbe befreit wird, bevor die Farbe in den Näpfchen festtrocknen konnte.

Der seitens der Tiefdruckmaschine gelagerte Presseur wird für diesen Stand-By-Betrieb dagegen nicht benötigt. Das kontinuierliche Betreiben der Einfärbevorrichtung kann über den direkt in der Farbwanne laufenden Formzylinder erfolgen. Um eine zu starke Schaumbildung und ein Spritzen der Farbe zu verhindern, kann auch eine Schöpfwalze mit weichem Bezug vorgesehen sein, die in der Farbwanne frei mitläuft und die die Farbe auf den außerhalb der Farbwanne laufenden Formzylinder überträgt. Die Schöpfwalze kann vorzugsweise als gebremste Walze ausgeführt sein, wodurch sich ein weitgehend spritzfreies Auftragen eines homogenen Farbfilms auf den Formzylinder ergibt. Denkbar ist aber auch ein für den Stand-By-Betrieb speziell konstruierter Farbumlauf, der von einer entsprechenden Pumpe in Gang gehalten wird.

Nach einer weiteren bevorzugten Ausführungsform ist vorgesehen, dass zwischen Formzylinder und Elektromotor eine steuerbare Kupplung geschaltet ist, um zwischen dem Hauptantrieb und dem Stand-By-Antrieb umzuschalten.
Nach einer weiteren bevorzugten Ausführungsform ist vorgesehen, dass das Farbwerk eine Andock-Schnittstelle umfasst, über die das Farbwerk auf einer definierten Position gegenüber der Tiefdruckmaschine fixierbar ist. Zum Erreichen einer definierten Position gegenüber der Tiefdruckmaschine können beispielsweise am Boden ein Konus und ein Prisma vorgesehen sein, auf die das Farbwerk nach dem Einsetzen in die Tiefdruckmaschine abgelassen wird. Zusätzlich können zwei Flächenkontakte am Boden für weitere Stabilität sorgen. Über eine Kniehebeltechnik kann der Reibschluss an den Flächenkontakten verstärkt werden. Es ist auch denkbar, dass die Andruckkraft des Presseurs ausgenutzt wird, um den Reibschluss an den Flächenkontakten zu verstärken.
Nach einer weiteren bevorzugten Ausführungsform ist vorgesehen, dass das Farbwerk eine elektronische Schnittstelle umfasst, über die zwischen der Tiefdruckmaschine und dem Farbwerk Steuerdaten übermittelbar sind. Soweit vor dem Druckauftrag ein Andrucken in einer Andruckmaschine erfolgt, können sämtliche Daten für den nächsten Druckauftrag von der Andruckmaschine an die elektronische Schnittstelle übermittelt und von der elektronischen Schnittstelle an die Tiefdruckmaschine weitergegeben werden. Zu solchen Daten zählen beispielsweise die Trocknungstemperatur, der Response-Faktor des Lösemittels, der erforderliche Bahnzug oder bestimmte Parameter des Bedruckstoffes. Die Identifikation des jeweiligen Farbwerkes kann über ein systemweit eindeutiges Code-Signal seitens der elektronischen Schnittstelle erfolgen. Es ist aber auch denkbar, dass zusätzlich bzw. alternativ ein RFID-Chip, ein Barcode oder Ähnliches am Farbwerk angebracht ist, um das Farbwerk eindeutig zu identifizieren.

Fig. 1 zeigt eine Ausführungsform eines erfindungsgemäßen Farbwerks 601. Die in die Tiefdruckmaschine 801 eingeschobenen Farbwerke 802 arbeiten den momentan laufenden Druckauftrag ab. Gleichzeitig werden in der Andruckmaschine nacheinander die Farbwerke 803 für den nächsten Druckauftrag vorbereitet. Selbstverständlich ist es auch möglich, dass für diesen Zweck mehrere Andruckmaschinen 701 parallel bereitgestellt werden. Sobald die Farbwerke 803 für den nächsten Druckauftrag vorbereitet sind, werden die Farbwerke 804 an der Tiefdruckmaschine 801 für einen Wechsel mit den Farbwerken 802 bereitgestellt.

Claims (8)

  1. Inking unit of a gravure printing press,
    - with a form cylinder and with an inking device to ink the form cylinder with an ink, and
    - with a mobile platform to remove the inking unit from the gravure printing press,
    characterized in that
    the inked regions are covered by a hood upon removal of the inking unit, so that the saturation vapor pressure of the atmosphere surrounding the ink is maintained at a value that approximately corresponds to the saturation vapor pressure of the ink, so that the inking unit remains in a ready-to-print state.
  2. Inking unit according to claim 1, characterized in that the inking device of the removed inking unit is still operable.

  6. Inking unit according to one of the claims 1-5, characterized in that the inking unit comprises a docking interface, via which the inking unit may be fixed in a defined position relative to the gravure printing press.
  7. Inking unit according to one of the claims 1-6, characterized in that the inking unit comprises an electronic interface via which control data may be transmitted between the gravure printing press and the inking unit.
  8. Method of operating a gravure printing press with a plurality of inking units according to one of the claims 1 - 7,
    - wherein the inking units are prepared for the following second print job during a first print job, wherein the prepared inking units are kept in a ready-to-print state,
    - wherein upon completion of the first print job, the inking units for the second print job are used in the gravure printing press, and
    - wherein after the insertion of the inking unit, the second print job is started.
