Erst danach kann dann die eigentlich elektrische Kontaktherstellung durch weiteres axiales Verschieben des Steckverbinders in den Gegensteckverbinder hinein erfolgen. Diese gezielte Führung des Steckverbinders in den Gegensteckverbinder bietet also auch den Vorteil, das Steckverbinder und Gegensteckverbinder, zum Beispiel deren Gehäuse, lagerichtig zueinander positioniert werden. Ergänzend dazu ist es aber auch von besonderem Vorteil, dass auch der Kabelabgang des Steckverbinders und/oder des Gegensteckverbinders in eine vorgegebene Position gebracht wird. Dies spielt bei einem Kabelabgang, der axial aus dem Steckverbinder oder dem Gegensteckverbinder erfolgt, an und für sich zunächst keine Rolle. Erfolgt der Kabelabgang jedoch nicht in Längsrichtung, sondern abweichend davon, zum Beispiel abgewinkelt, kann es je nach Anwendungsfall der Steckverbinderanordnung wichtig sein, dass nach Beendigung des Zusammensteckvorganges der Kabelabgang des Steckverbinders und/oder des Gegensteckverbinders in eine vorgegebene Richtung, die von der Längsrichtung der Steckverbinderanordnung abweicht, gebracht wird. So kann beispielsweise der Gegensteckverbinder fest montiert sein (zum Beispiel aus dem Gehäuse eines Steuergerätes herausragen) und es weiterhin erforderlich sein, dass der Kabelabgang des Steckverbinders, abweichend von der Längsachse der Steckverbinderanordnung im zusammengesteckten Zustand, von dieser Längsachse nicht nur in beliebiger Richtung abweichen soll, sondern in eine vorgegebene Richtung ausgerichtet sein soll.
