Definitions

  • the invention relates to a system comprising several different types of cartridges of the same type and several different types of mixers of the same type which can be connected to them.
  • the cartridges are preferably designed as double cartridges with two interconnected containers, each of which has an outlet opening or an outlet nozzle.
  • the containers can be arranged one behind the other, next to one another (for example, parallel) or inside one another (tube-in-tube).
  • the mixers are each provided with two inlet openings or nozzles that can be coupled to the outlet openings or nozzle of the cartridge.
  • the system comprises at least two types of cartridges, which differ in that the ratio of the volumes of their containers is different.
  • Cartridges of the same type are understood to mean cartridges which, regardless of the volume ratios of their containers, have an identical total volume. Cartridges of the same type can often be actuated with the same dispensing device.
  • it is common to empty so-called large cartridges with a total filling quantity of both containers of 380 ml by means of a motor-driven dispenser.
  • large cartridges for example directly filled cartridges and cartridges filled with tubular bags, or cartridges in which the volume or cross-sectional ratios of the containers are different.
  • all these large cartridges are understood to be of the same type if they have the same total volume.
  • mixers for example, between dynamic mixers with a drivable mixing element and static mixers with a non-driven mixing helix.
  • Dynamic mixers which are often used with large cartridges, are considered to be mixers of the same type, even if the cross-sections of the mixing tubes can vary or a storage or reservoir chamber is provided for some dynamic mixers and not for others.
  • Static mixers which are often used with the smaller 50 ml cartridges, are also considered to be similar mixers, regardless of differences in the length or cross-section of the respective mixing tube or regardless of the presence of a storage or reservoir chamber in the inlet area of the mixer or regardless of the number of mixing elements.
  • a double cartridge with two containers with a 1: 1 ratio of the volumes of their containers and a matching dynamic mixer are from the EP 1 943 012 B1 known.
  • the mixer can be connected to the double cartridge by inserting an inlet port of the mixer into an outlet port of one container of the double cartridge, while the second inlet port of the mixer is plugged onto an outlet port of the smaller container of the double cartridge.
  • the diameter of the inlet and outlet nozzles are corresponding to Volume ratio of the containers of different sizes.
  • a coding nose is provided on the mixer which engages in a corresponding recess of the cartridge when the mixer is placed in its correct orientation in relation to the double cartridge, ie so that the larger inlet port of the mixer and the larger outlet port of the cartridge as well as the smaller inlet port of the mixer and the smaller outlet port of the cartridge can interlock.
  • a cartridge with an associated mixer is known, at least one strip being provided on the mixer which can be brought into engagement in a corresponding groove on the neck of the cartridge connection.
  • the mixer can have an incision which is used to receive a cam on the cartridge connection.
  • the storage cylinders from the EP 0 600 138 B1 known cartridges can each have either the same or different volumes or cross-sections / geometries. In known systems, it is usually customary for each cartridge with a different volume ratio of the containers to be individually assigned a mixer which, with regard to the cross-sections of the inlet and outlet openings, matches the cartridge.
  • a mixer on two different cartridges with different volume ratios, the correct assignment of the mixer that is suitable for a cartridge often being made by a colored marking on the cartridge and the mixer.
  • a 50 ml 1: 1 cartridge for example, there are several mixers with different lengths, diameters and mixing elements whose coding nose is identical, sits in the same position and which have identical cross-sections of the inlet channels and thus all fit on one cartridge.
  • there are different types of dental materials for this 50 ml 1: 1 cartridge (Viscosity, material and kinetics) and can therefore only be dispensed with a certain type of mixer (dispensing force) and homogeneously mixed.
  • the object of the present invention is, for example, based on the US 2010/0102088 A1 to provide a system of several different cartridges and mixers, which can be produced with reduced manufacturing effort and at the same time enables a defined assignment of a mixer that fits a cartridge.
  • the invention is based on the idea that the size of the inlet openings or nozzle is the same for each type of mixer and the size of the outlet openings or nozzle is the same for each type of cartridge. Due to the identical design of the inlet openings or stubs and the outlet openings or stubs, the interface between cartridge and mixer can be designed largely identically, which means that only minimal modifications to the production tools are required.
  • each mixer type is equipped with a guide projection extending in the axial direction of the mixer that is different in cross section from the other types of mixers, and that each cartridge type is equipped with one of the other types of cartridges in cross-section different opening for receiving a guide projection of a mixer is equipped.
  • the inventive guide projection of the mixer with the correspondingly designed opening of the cartridge fulfills the function of, for example, from the EP 0 600 138 B1 or the EP 1 943 012 B1
  • the known coding for aligning the mixer relative to the cartridge also has the function that only certain types of mixers can be connected to certain types of cartridges, although the inlet openings or nozzles of the mixer and the outlet openings or nozzles of the cartridges are in themselves a connection of each mixer type allowed with each type of cartridge.
  • the design of the interface between cartridge and mixer only the cross-sections of the guide projections and corresponding openings have to be modified, so that a considerably lower manufacturing cost is incurred than with the individual design of the interface for each mixer and cartridge type.
  • the cross-sectional ratios of the containers of, for example, 1: 1, 1: 2, 1: 4, 1:10, which are usual for the smaller 50 ml cartridges, can all be designed with an interface that is identical except for the cross section of the respective guide projections.
  • the guide projection is provided on the mixer, while a correspondingly shaped opening for receiving the guide projection is provided on the cartridge.
  • a guide projection can be formed on the cartridge which engages in a correspondingly designed opening of the mixer.
  • the inlet openings or stubs and outlet openings or stubs are not regarded according to the invention as a guide projection or opening. Rather, the guide projection is an additional feature provided on the mixer or the cartridge.
  • each type of cartridge in order to attach a mixer to a cartridge, is provided with an internal thread and each type of mixer is provided with an external thread.
  • the external thread of each mixer type can be screwed into the respective internal thread of each cartridge type.
  • a ring is provided on the cartridge which surrounds the outlet openings or connections and is provided with the internal thread, while the mixer has a mixer housing provided with the external thread, which can be freely rotated to form a cover or insert, which has the inlet openings or stubs of the mixer.
  • Each type of cartridge can preferably be connected to exactly one of the types of mixers and / or each type of mixer can be connected to only one of the types of cartridges. In the former case, for example, one mixer can be used for two different types of cartridges. In the second case, for example, two different mixers can be placed on the same type of cartridge.
  • the design according to the invention of the inlet openings or nozzles and the outlet openings or nozzles with an identical design for all mixer types and for all cartridge types means that the cross-sections of the inlet openings or nozzle and the outlet openings or nozzle close to the maximum in the system expected volume penetration are adjusted. This can be perceived as disadvantageous in particular in the case of ratios of the volumes of the container of the cartridge which differ greatly from 1: 1, since the flow resistance of the components differs greatly as a result. In this case in particular, it is preferred if an element is provided in at least one outlet opening or at least one outlet nozzle of the cartridge which reduces the size of the lumen.
  • This can, for example, be an insert or an element formed in one piece with the cartridge, which reduces the cross section of the outlet opening or the outlet connection and / or acts as a throttle point.
  • This element, which has reduced the lumen, is preferably arranged in such a way that it is provided outside of the actual contact area between mixer and cartridge, so that this does not impair the placement of the mixer on the cartridge.
  • the guide projections of the mixers and / or the openings of the cartridges can be ring segment-shaped or polygonal in cross section.
  • the guide projections of different types of mixers and / or the openings of different types of cartridges have projections and / or differently designed and / or differently positioned in cross section
  • Recesses In a departure from the examples mentioned above, other configurations of the cross-sections of the guide projections or the openings are also possible, provided that this enables a specific mixer to be assigned to a specific cartridge.
  • the system according to the invention can have so-called dynamic mixers, ie mixers with a mixing element that can be driven in rotation, or static mixers with a mixing element that cannot be driven.
  • dynamic mixers ie mixers with a mixing element that can be driven in rotation
  • static mixers with a mixing element that cannot be driven.
  • the system according to the invention it is also possible for the system according to the invention to have both dynamic mixers and static mixers.
  • two types of mixers in the system can also differ in that the mixing space provided in each mixer has different diameters for different types of mixers. In this way, for example, different viscosities of the materials to be processed can be taken into account.
  • the mixers of the system according to the invention are preferably designed in such a way that their guide projections are arranged at a distance from the inlet openings or connecting pieces and at a distance from the external thread.
  • Neither the thread as a fastening means nor the inlet openings or inlet connections for connecting the mixer to the cartridge thus serve as a means for assigning a mixer to a cartridge type.
  • the respective guide projection is longer than the socket and is active before the thread engagement.
  • the partition and the guide projection of the mixer protrude in the axial direction over the inlet openings or nozzles, so that these two elements also prevent the inlet openings or nozzles of the mixer from meeting the outlet openings or nozzles of the cartridge in an incorrect alignment .
  • the guide projection is provided with a (mechanical) coding as described above, i.e. with a contour which is adapted to the contour of an opening in the cartridge in such a way that the mixer can only be connected to the cartridge in a certain orientation.
  • the outlet openings or nozzle of the cartridges can preferably be closed with a removable stopper.
  • the sealing plug can be connected to the cartridge in the delivery state and is removed before the cartridge is used for the first time.
  • the outlet openings or nozzles of cartridges of the same type can each be closed with identical (structurally identical) sealing plugs.
  • Sealing plug achieved a standardization and thus a cost saving.
  • the sealing plug has two nozzles that can be inserted into the outlet openings or nozzles of the cartridges and at least one latching element that can be snapped into place on the cartridges, which is connected to the nozzle via an elastically twistable torsion element in such a way that the nozzle is relative to the at least one latching element are elastically rotatable.
  • the latching element is preferably connectable to the internal thread of the cartridge, and in particular is designed as a hook which engages behind the thread end in the circumferential direction.
  • the torsion element makes it possible that the part of the closure plug provided with the at least one locking element is rotated relative to the part of the closure plug provided with the nozzle in order to release the locking connection.
  • the locking hook itself and / or at least one web adjacent to the locking hook in the circumferential direction is supported on a thread of the cartridge in such a way that the sealing plug is lifted from the cartridge when the at least one locking element is rotated.
  • each a double cartridge 1a and 1b is shown, which consist of two interconnected containers 2, 3 and a connection area 4.
  • a comparison of the Figures 1a and 1b shows that the containers 2, 3 can have different cross sections and different volumes for the same length.
  • the ratio of the volumes of the two containers 2 and 3 in the embodiment according to FIG Figure 1a for example 10: 1 while the ratio of the volumes of the containers in Figure 1b for example 1: 1, the total volume of the cartridges 1a and 1b being identical (eg 50ml).
  • the cartridges 1a and 1b are thus considered to be two different types of similar cartridges.
  • connection area 4 of the cartridges has an outlet connection 5 or 6 for each container 2 or 3.
  • the Outlet nozzles 5, 6 can protrude from a plate 7, which is circular in the embodiment shown, and are additionally surrounded by a ring 8 which is provided with an internal thread 9.
  • a through opening is also formed in the plate 7, the opening 10a in FIG Figure 1a a slightly different cross-section from that of the opening 10b in FIG Figure 1b having.
  • both openings 10a, 10b are each designed approximately like a ring segment and have a projection protruding into the opening at different positions. Further examples of the cross section of such openings are shown in FIGS Figures 1c and 1d shown, these differing by the position of the projection within the ring segment-like opening.
  • a guide projection 13a, 13b, 13c is provided on the insert, which extends parallel to the inlet connection in the direction of the cartridge.
  • the guide projection has a cross section which is adapted to the cross section of the openings in the connection area 4 of the cartridges.
  • the cross-section of the guide projection 13a is selected so that it can be inserted into the opening 10a of the cartridge 1a, but not into the opening 10b of the Cartridge 1b.
  • the guide projection 13b of the mixer 11b is designed so that it can be inserted into the opening 10b of the cartridge 1b, but not into the opening 10a of the cartridge 1a.
  • the guide projection 13c of the mixer 11c is designed such that it can be inserted both into the opening 10a of the cartridge 1a and into the opening 10b of the cartridge 1b.

  • the locking cams 14 and locking counter cams 15 are arranged in such a way that a locking counter cam 15 snaps over a locking cam 14 when the mixer with its external thread 12 is screwed completely into the internal thread 9 of a cartridge.
  • FIG 4a a dynamic mixer 20a with a suitable cartridge 21a is shown.
  • the structure of the cartridge 21a essentially corresponds to that of the cartridges 1a and 1b described above, the connection area 4 of the cartridge 21a being designed in such a way that instead of the outlet nozzles 5, 6 protruding over the plate 7, only outlet openings 5, 6 are provided.
  • a through opening is provided between the outlet openings 5, 6, through which a drive shaft for the rotational drive of the mixing element of the mixer 20a can be passed.
  • two ring segment-like openings 22 each formed.
  • the mixer 20a is provided with two guide projections 23 which are likewise ring segment-shaped in cross section and which extend parallel to the inlet connection 24 and 25, respectively.
  • the mixer 20a is fastened to the cartridge 21a as described above, in that the guide projections 23 are first inserted into the corresponding openings 22 of the cartridge 21a.
  • the mixer 20a is connected to the cartridge 21a, the inlet nozzles 24, 25 of the mixer 20a also engaging the outlet openings 5 and 6 of the cartridge 21a.
  • the mixer 20b instead of the two guide projections 23, only a single guide projection 23 with a ring segment-shaped cross section is provided on the mixer 20b.
  • the cartridge 21b also has only one opening 22 which is ring segment-shaped in cross section.
  • the mixer 20b can therefore only be connected to the cartridge 21b, but not to the cartridge 21a.
  • the mixer 20a can only be connected to the cartridge 21a, but not to the cartridge 21b.
  • Figures 5 and 6 show a sealing plug 26 with two nozzles 27 that can be inserted into the outlet openings or nozzles 5, 6 of a cartridge, as well as at least one latching element 28 that can be latched onto the cartridges.
  • the latching element 28 is designed as a latching hook that connects to the nozzle 27 via an elastically twistable torsion element 29 is connected in such a way that the connecting pieces 27 are elastically rotatable relative to the locking element 28.

  • the torsion element 29 makes it possible that the ring-like part provided with the at least one locking element of the Closure plug is rotated relative to the part of the closure plug provided with the nozzle 27 in order to release the latching connection.
  • the locking hook 28 and two webs 30, which are provided adjacent to the locking hook in the circumferential direction, are supported on a thread of the cartridge. This has the effect that the sealing plug 26 is lifted off the cartridge when the annular part is rotated with the latching element 28, so that the connecting pieces 27 are pulled out of the outlet openings or connecting pieces 5, 6 of the cartridge.

  • FIG. 9 to 11 shows a dispensing piston with a zipper that can be used in a cartridge system according to the invention for dispensing the components from the containers.
  • the piston is provided with a vent that allows air to exit the respective container when it is filled with the component and the dispensing piston is used. Since some substances tend to react with the residual air remaining in the cartridge after filling the cartridge and inserting the piston, efforts are made to allow the residual air to escape from the container as completely as possible. Any residual air remaining in the container between the piston and the substance in the cartridge is also felt to be disadvantageous because the residual air forms a compressible cushion, which makes the metering more difficult when applying the substance from the cartridge.
  • the piston 100 shown has a base body 101 which has a side wall provided with sealing means and an end wall in which a vent opening 102 is provided.
  • This vent opening 102 extends through the entire base body, so that an exchange of air between the side of the front wall (located in the conveying direction) and the rear of the piston 100 is possible.
  • a closure element 103 is rotatably mounted in the vent opening 102, it being possible to open or close a vent channel by a relative rotation of the closure element 103 in the vent opening 102. In other words, it is possible, with a rotation of the closure element 103, to establish or prevent the flow connection between the side of the piston 100 located in the conveying direction and the rear side of the piston.
  • a circumferential projection 104 is formed on the inner surface of the vent opening 102, which protrusion engages in a corresponding groove 105 in the closure element 103 in order to lock them together.
  • Both the projection 104 and the groove 105 are each provided with perforations which can be brought into overlap in order to release a ventilation channel, or can be brought out of overlap in order to close the ventilation channel.
  • the opening runs through the groove 105 which is perpendicular to this and which can be formed slightly deeper than the opening so that the projection 104 can reliably close the openings.
  • the star-shaped vent slots 106 are tapered so that the total cross-sectional area is reduced to a fraction, e.g. 1/100, of the original cross-sectional area. In this way trapped air can continue to escape unhindered when the cartridge is closed, but the access of impression material to the vent valve is made very difficult.
  • Figure 12 shows a sectional view of a mixer and a cartridge of the system according to the invention, the case being shown that a user tries to place the mixer incorrectly (tilted) on the cartridge.
  • An important feature of the system according to the invention is the avoidance of an undesired carryover of the catalyst component and the base component and which could lead to the other paste component in each case and to their contamination. This could occur through accidental, undesired introduction of the guide projection first into one channel, then into the other, or from touching the inlet and outlet channels of the cartridge and mixer when the cartridge and mixer are tilted in the wrong position, or similarly when a stopper is tilted back on.
  • the guide projection on the mixer (or on a sealing plug) is designed in such a way that it cannot be introduced into the outlet channels.
  • the partition wall 31 is dimensioned in such a way that it allows only small tilt angles between the outlet channels of the cartridge. Contours can optionally be attached to the outlet channels of the cartridge, which further restrict the clearance for the partition 31 used with regard to unfavorable tilt angles.
  • a sealing plug can have an additional sleeve-shaped collar (at the point where the thread is located on the mixer) and thus also avoids unfavorable tilt angles.
