Die zuvor beschriebene Reinigung der Sensoreinrichtung 20 bzw. des transparenten Bereichs 23 sowie die Vergrößerung des Abstands zwischen Sensoreinrichtung 20 und Transporteinrichtung 10 erfolgt in einer Bearbeitungspause, d. h. zu einem Zeitpunkt zu dem keine Banknoten an der Sensoreinrichtung 20 vorbeitransportiert werden, die Transporteinrichtung 10 jedoch aktiv ist. In diesem Fall werden in der Banknotenbearbeitungsmaschine 1, wenn diese beispielsweise 33 Banknoten pro Sekunde bearbeitet und pro Banknote 25 cm Platz vorgesehen sind, die Riemen 15 der Transporteinrichtung mit einer Transportgeschwindigkeit von 8,25 m/s bewegt. Dauert der Druckluftpuls der Reinigungseinrichtung 25 beispielsweise eine Sekunde an, werden in der dargestellten Ausführungsform 3 * 8,25 m Riemen 15 an der Sensoreinrichtung 20 vorbeitransportiert. Bei Beibehaltung des für den Betrieb erforderlichen Abstands zwischen Sensoreinrichtung 20 und Transporteinrichtung 10 würde die Gefahr bestehen, dass der an einer Transportlänge von zusammen ca. 25 m Riemen 15 anhaftende Schmutz durch den Druckluftpuls abgelöst wird und durch den dynamischen Unterdruck aufgrund des Bernoulli-Effekts zum transparenten Bereich 23 gelangt und zu einer Neuverschmutzung der Sensoreinrichtung 20 bzw. des transparenten Bereichs 23 führen würde. Durch die Vergrößerung des Abstands zwischen Sensoreinrichtung 20 und Transporteinrichtung 10 wird diese Neuverschmutzung jedoch vermieden, da die Riemen 15 nicht direkt vom Druckluftpuls getroffen werden und auch der zuvor beschriebene Unterdruck keine Wirkung auf den Schmutz der Riemen 15 hat. Es ist offensichtlich, dass die zuvor beschriebene Reinigung auch vorgenommen werden kann, wenn die Transporteinrichtung 10 angehalten ist. In diesem Fall sind die zuvor beschriebenen Vorteile hinsichtlich der Vermeidung einer Neuverschmutzung jedoch geringer, da die Transporteinrichtung bzw. die Riemen 15 nicht laufend neuen Schmutz in den Bereich der Sensoreinrichtung 20 bzw. des transparenten Bereichs 23 transportieren.The above-described cleaning of the

a sensor device,
