Definitions

  • This invention relates to an electrical household appliance for washing laundry, typically a laundry washing machine or a washer-dryer.
  • a separator panel is provided to prevent the detergent from flowing freely from the first zone to the second. This allows the liquid detergent to be held back and released into the tank in predetermined time windows during the washing cycle, thereby optimizing the action of the detergent. This feature also allows the user to visually check how much detergent there is in the drawer.
  • the separator panel stops the detergent from flowing out of the drawer and the user can thus measure the amount of detergent using references provided in the drawer -the references may even be very approximate: for example, the distance between the surface of the detergent and the upper edge of a containment wall-.
  • a dispensing device allows washing water into the first zone and the liquid detergent mixed with the washing water overflows from the first zone to the second zone. Also, since the separator panel is not hermetically sealed (there are small channels at the bottom of the separator panel) the liquid in the first zone very slowly seeps out of the first zone and eventually finds it way into the second zone and from there into the washing tank.
  • the separator panel is movable between:
  • the drawer comprises means for sliding the separator panel; these sliding means comprise guides extending along the second zone; by pushing the upper portion of the separator panel (in the first position) towards the second zone, these guides allow the separator panel to be tipped over, more specifically, the upper portion of the separator panel is made to surmount the second zone, whilst the rest of the separator panel surmounts the first zone.
  • Patent application GB2187764A discloses a washing machine provided with a dispensing device for washing agents comprising a storage chamber and a pouring limitation wall. Discharge of liquid washing agents can be effected by way of a siphon incorporated in the limitation wall. Discharge of powder washing agents can be effected instead by raising the position of the limitation wall in the storage chamber.
  • the technical purpose which forms the basis of this invention is to propose an electrical household appliance that overcomes the above mentioned drawbacks of the prior art.
  • this invention has for an aim to provide an electrical household appliance capable of optimizing component layout.
  • Another aim of the invention is to provide an electrical household appliance which improves the structural solidity of its components.
  • the electrical household appliance 7 denotes an electrical household appliance for washing laundry.
  • the electrical household appliance 7 comprises:
  • the electrical household appliance 7 comprises a panel 74 for obstructing the detergent feed line 71.
  • the drawer 72 comprises first positioning means 75 for positioning the panel 74 in an operating position where it obstructs the feed line 71. In the obstructing operating position, the panel 74 nevertheless allows fluid to pass through at least one gap 742 between the panel 74 and the drawer 72.
  • the first positioning means 75 are located along the feed line 71.
  • the drawer 72 comprises a front wall 76 transversal (preferably at right angles) to the direction 77 in which the drawer 72 is extracted/inserted (see Figure 2 ).
  • the panel 76 faces towards the outside of the drawer 72.
  • the electrical household appliance 7 comprises a compartment which houses the drawer 72 when the latter is in a closed configuration.
  • the drawer 72 is extractable along the direction 77 to adopt an open configuration (in the open configuration, the user can place detergents in it to be used during the washing cycle).
  • the wall 76 comprises second positioning means 78 for positioning the panel 74 and comprising a housing cavity 79 formed in the wall 76.
  • the panel 74 can adopt a first configuration where it is connected to the first positioning means 75 (see Figures 3 and 7 , for example) and a second configuration where it is connected to the second positioning means 78 (see Figures 2 , 4 and 5 , for example).
  • the housing cavity 79 is a recess 790 in the wall 76.
  • the first configuration of the panel 74 is designed to allow use of liquid detergent: in this configuration, when water is fed into the drawer 72, the liquid detergent flows into the compartment 70 over the panel 74 and through the gap 742 interposed between the panel 74 and the drawer 72.
  • the panel 74 is not hermetically sealed and allows liquid to seep through it even before the washing water is fed in.
  • the washing water makes the detergent less dense and facilitates its passage through the gap 742 between the drawer 72 and the panel 74.
  • the second configuration is designed to allow use of powder detergent: in effect, the absence of the panel 74 minimises the risk of the detergent remaining in the drawer 72 after mixing with the washing water and forming a mush.
  • the panel 74 does not pass through an imaginary surface which extends parallel to the front wall 76, outside the drawer 72 and located at a distance of 10 millimetres from the front wall 76.
  • the panel 4 does not extend outside a space defined by the housing cavity 79. This makes it possible to minimise protruding of the panel 74 outside the drawer 72 when the panel 4 is in the second configuration.
  • the electrical household appliance 7 comprises a door which gives access to the washing compartment 70. The door, when closed, faces the front wall 76 (at a short distance from it). If the panel 4 in the second configuration protruded considerably from the drawer 72 it would interfere with the door when closed (preventing it from closing and with the risk of its breaking).
  • the drawer 72 comprises a detergent outflow channel 721 fluid dynamically connected to the conduit 73.
  • the panel 74 divides the channel 721 into a first and a second zone 722, 723.
  • the first zone 722 is used to hold the detergent placed in it by the user, while the second zone 723 is located downstream of the first zone along the feed line 71.
  • the cavity 79 comprises a pocket 80 for positioning the panel 74.
  • the panel 74 is at least partly inside the pocket 80.
  • the panel 74 comprises a first portion 81 which, in the first configuration, is connected to the first positioning means 75, and a second portion 82 bent at an angle to the first portion 81.
  • both the first and the second portion 81, 82 are substantially parallel to two distinct intersecting planes which are inclined at an angle to each other.
  • the acute angle made by the two distinct planes is between 15° and 75°, preferably between 20° and 40°, and still more preferably, is around 30°.
  • the first means 75 for positioning the panel 74 comprise a groove 751.
  • the first portion 81 of the panel 74 can be inserted into the first means 75 for positioning the panel 74, in particular into the groove 751.
  • the groove 751 is at least partly absent on a bottom 724 of the channel 721 (so as to minimize unwanted build-up of powder detergent when the panel 74 is in the second configuration).
  • the first positioning means 75 also comprise at least one protuberance 741 which is inclined at an angle to the vertical and in contact with at least part of the second portion 82 of the panel 74. More specifically, the protuberance 741 is parallel to the second portion 82 of the panel 74, when the panel 74 is in the first configuration.
  • the first positioning means comprise a pair of protuberances 741 on each side of the channel 721 and in contact with at least part of the second portion 82 of the panel 74 when the latter is in the first configuration.
  • the protuberance/protuberances 741 improves/improve the seal of the panel 74 when the latter is in the first configuration (if necessary, also improving the stable positioning of the panel 74).
  • the wall 76 also comprises a front outside surface 83 which delimits an opening 84 giving access to the cavity 79; in the second configuration the first portion 81 extends towards the inside of the drawer 72 away from the front surface 83.
  • the second portion 82 at least partly occludes the access opening 84.
  • the second portion 82 remains substantially flush with the front surface 83.
  • the front surface 83 is substantially planar.
  • the cavity 79 extends towards the inside of the drawer 72 starting from and away from the access opening 84.
  • the first portion 81 of the panel 74 is substantially planar and, in the first configuration, is substantially vertical (for example see Figure 7 ).
  • the second portion 82 comprises a graduated scale 85 for the level of liquid.
  • the graduated scale 85 is calibrated in such a way that when the panel 74 is in the first configuration, it measures the level of liquid present upstream of the panel 74 along the detergent feed line 71.
  • the graduated scale 85 comprises visual references (graphic symbols such as protrusions or grooves). The inclination of the second portion 82 to the vertical makes it easier for an observer to read the graduated scale 85. In effect, the view point of a user of average height is usually above the drawer 72.
  • the panel 74 comprises a first face and a second face 87, 88 between which the panel 74 extends in thickness.
  • the first face 87 comprises a first and a second part 89, 90 which are not co-planar.
  • the first part 89 comprises the graduated scale 85 for the level of liquid present upstream of the panel 74 along the detergent feed line 71 when the panel 74 is in the first configuration.
  • the second part 90 forms part of a base 91 for connection to the first positioning means 75.
  • the panel 74 comprises at least one protrusion 86 which facilitates extraction of the panel 74 from the first positioning means 75.
  • the protrusion 86 is at the intersection between the first and the second portion 81, 82 of the panel 74. More specifically, the protrusion 86 is at the intersection between the first and the second part 89, 90 of the first face 87.
  • the first portion 81 of the panel 74 extends into the pocket 80, while the second portion 82 occupies part of the cavity 79 which surmounts the pocket 80.
  • At least part of the protrusion 86 faces a perimeter edge 860 (preferably at least part of the bottom edge) of the access opening 84 at a non zero distance therefrom.
  • the pocket 80 comprises a slit 801 into which the first portion 81 is inserted.
  • the second portion 82 extends parallel to the front wall 76.
  • the slit 801 extends downwards away from the access opening 84. That way, by pulling the panel 74 towards himself, a user of medium height can lift and at the same time extract it from the pocket 80.
  • the panel 74 is made of plastic material.
  • the drawer 72 is made of plastic material.
  • the reference numeral 1 denotes an electrical household appliance for washing laundry.
  • the electrical household appliance 1 comprises:
  • the means 3 for delivering detergent comprise:
  • the electrical household appliance 1 comprises a panel 4 interposed between the first and the second zone 31, 32.
  • the panel 4 is movable between a first and a second configuration. In the second configuration the panel 4 occludes a section 40 for the passage between the first and the second zone 31, 32 which is larger than in the first configuration.
  • the panel 4 in the second configuration, too, the panel 4 is not hermetically sealed. More specifically, it allows liquid to flow over the top of the panel 4, and/or under the panel and/or laterally.
  • the panel 4 is movable rotatably about an axis of rotation 41 oriented substantially according to the physical vertical.
  • the physical vertical coincides with the plumb-line direction.
  • the panel 4 advantageously extends mainly in a vertical direction.
  • the panel 4 extends substantially transversely (preferably at right angles, see embodiment illustrated) to a detergent outflow direction in the first and second zones 31, 32.
  • the panel 4 is rotated by an angle between 65° and 115° relative to the second configuration (preferably, in the first configuration, the panel 4 is rotated by an angle of approximately 90° relative to the second configuration).
  • the panel 4 is a butterfly valve 42.
  • the butterfly valve 42 comprises:
  • the wings 422 extend vertically.
  • the upper edge of the two wings forms a concavity 425 facing upwards.
  • the concavity 425 facilitates overflowing of the water and detergent mixture from the first zone 31 to the second 32 when the panel 4 is in the second configuration.
  • the electrical household appliance 1 comprises a drawer 60 for holding a detergent.
  • the drawer 60 defines a tray 30 integrating the first and second zones 31, 32.
  • the drawer 60 is movable between a first position where it is inside a housing 6 of the electrical household appliance 1 and a second position where it is at least partly outside the housing 6 to allow the detergent to be placed in the first zone 31.
  • the tray 30 is integrated as a single part in the drawer 60 (more specifically, in the main body 61 of the drawer, as described in more detail below).
  • the drawer 60 is extractable along a first direction.
  • the axis of rotation 41 of the panel 4 is vertical and at right angles to the first direction.
  • the means 3 for delivering the detergent comprise a hopper 301 which contributes to channelling the liquid from the drawer 60 towards the washing compartment 2.
  • the panel 4 is made of plastic material.
  • the drawer 60 is also made of plastic material.
  • the wings 422 of the butterfly valve 42 are directly accessible to a user, allowing the valve 42 to be turned about the axis of rotation 41. More specifically, in the second position, the wings 422 of the butterfly valve 42 are directly accessible to a user. More specifically, in the second position, the wings 422 of the butterfly valve 42 are directly accessible to a user from above (for example, moving from the top down - following the gravity acceleration vector - along a straight line coinciding with the axis of rotation 41).
  • the electrical household appliance 1 comprises a washing water dispensing device.
  • the first zone 31 is under the dispensing device, along the physical vertical.
  • the first and second zones 31, 32 define a channel 36 of the means 3 for delivering the detergent, the channel 36 comprising a bottom surface 34 and two lateral surfaces 35 which extend upwards away from the bottom surface 34.
  • the drawer 60 comprises a main body 61. Added to the main body 61, there may be additional accessories such as, for example, a removable tray which can be placed in an additional detergent channel 5 (for example, for a fabric conditioner).
  • the bottom surface 34 and the two lateral surfaces 35 are made as a single part with the main body 61.
  • the main body 61 is made by moulding together with the bottom surface 34 and the two lateral surfaces 35.
  • an upper section of the lateral surfaces 35 is located further away from the bottom surface compared to a portion of an upper edge of the panel 4, thus allowing overflowing from the first zone 31 to the second zone 32. This avoids overflowing of the liquid into unwanted zones of the drawer 60.
  • the fulcrum 421 is pivotally constrained to a support 424 located on the bottom surface 34.
  • the fulcrum 421 comprises a cavity
  • the support 424 comprises a protrusion 423 which projects from the bottom surface 34.
  • the protrusion 423 engages in the cavity of the fulcrum 421.
  • the cavity and the support 424 are coupled by helical threading formed on an outside surface of the support 424 and on an inside surface defining the cavity.
  • the panel 4 comprises at least one perimeter edge 43 which extends principally along a direction parallel to the axis of rotation 41, the edge 43 being rounded so as to offer a more hydrodynamic shape when the panel 4 is in the first configuration. This reduces build-up of powder detergent (or mush consisting of powder detergent and water) at the edge 43.
  • the panel 4 comprises two edges 43 which extend principally along a direction parallel to the axis of rotation 42, both of the edges 43 being rounded. That means a rounded edge is offered to the zone 31 independently of the direction the butterfly valve 42 is turned in to move the panel 4 from the second configuration to the first.
  • the panel 4 follows a helical lift/lower motion.
  • the movement of the panel 4 from the first configuration to the second is accompanied by a lifting movement of the panel 4 relative to the rest of the tray 30. This allows the space between the lower portion of the panel 4 and the tray 30 to be increased, thereby reducing the risk of build-up of residues (for example, water and powder detergent) under the panel 4.
  • residues for example, water and powder detergent
  • the means 3 for delivering the detergent and/or the panel 4 comprise/comprises graphic symbols illustrating the possibility of moving the panel 4 between the first configuration and the second. These graphic symbols comprise stylized icons which suggest to/remind the user how to use the panel 4 at each wash.
  • the graphic symbols are made by moulding directly on the panel 4 either on the bottom surface 34 or on at least one of the lateral surfaces 35.
  • the user performs at least the following steps:
  • the washing water is fed into the first zone 31. If the panel 4 is in the first configuration, the space occupied by the panel 4 transversely to the direction of outflow from the first zone 31 to the second 32 is minimal and the washing water carries the powder detergent with it along the means 3 for delivering the detergent to the washing compartment 2.
  • the space occupied by the panel 4 is such that the level of the liquid in the first zone 31 increases. Since the panel 4 is not hermetically sealed, liquid leaks through the panel 4 (typically between the edges 43 of the panel 4 and the lateral surfaces 35). When the liquid level exceeds the height of the panel 4, the liquid overflows into the second zone 32 and from there into the washing compartment 2.
  • the electrical household appliance comprises means for locking the panel 4 in the first and the second configuration.
  • the locking means are of a mechanical type.
  • they might be determined by a mechanical interaction between the fulcrum 421 and the protrusion 423.
  • the fulcrum 421 might have on it an elastically deformable element which, when the panel 4 is turned, snaps into a first or a second socket of the protrusion 423 (with the panel 4 in the first or second configuration, respectively).
  • the element might, on the other hand, be formed on the protrusion 423 and the first and second sockets on the fulcrum 421.
  • the panel 4 is removable from the rest of the electrical household appliance 1, in particular from the tray 30. This is advantageous because it allows the panel 4 to be cleaned or lets the user use the electrical household appliance 1 without the panel 4 (the latter situation being particularly advantageous when the appliance is used almost exclusively with powder detergent).
