Auch wenn man noch so geschickt ist, landet eine große Menge im Kragen unter dem Lätzchen. Suppen oder Säfte laufen sowieso sofort nach unten und werden von handelsüblichen Lätzchen und von der Oberbekleidung aufgesaugt. Das gleiche Problem gibt es bei behinderten Menschen, die eventuell die Fähigkeit nicht besitzen "richtig" essen zu können. Es läuft vieles daneben. Bei Kleinkindern ist die Koordination noch nicht vollkommen ausgeprägt. Diese kratzen die Essensreste auf keinen Fall von dem Mund oder Kinn. Herkömmliche Lätzchen haben durch die Verarbeitung einen Textilrand oder bestehen aus saugfähigen Materialien, die zwar etwas aufsaugen, leider läuft die restliche Flüssigkeit sowohl heraus, als auch in den Kragen hinein. Die Oberbekleidung ist vorne im Brustbereich sauber geblieben, am Kragen- und Halsbereich ist es aber enorm verunreinigt und bei hartnäckigen Flecken nicht wieder sauber zu bekommen. Es gibt keinen handelsüblichen Lätzchen, die man so eng um den Hals rum befestigen kann (Erstickungsgefahr zu vermeiden), dass deine flüssige Nahrung im Kragen unter dem Lätzchen landet, gleichgültig ob es mit Klettverschluss, Bänder oder mit Druckknöpfen ausgestattet ist.
