En fonctionnement, après quelques couches de produit 7 déposées sur chaque bobine 8, les bras de trancannage 4 sont décalés les uns par rapport aux autres, comme cela est représenté sur la figure 8. Ce phénomène s'accentue au fur et à mesure que les bobines 8 s'enroulent. La correction dynamique du pas de trancannage vise à y remédier, pour faire en sorte que tous les bras de trancannage 4 arrivent au même moment devant le système de coupe 11, visible sur la figure 9. Pour ce faire, le bras de trancannage 4 le plus rapide est pris pour référence. Dans l'exemple illustré à la figure 8, il s'agit du bras de trancannage 4 distant d'une longueur L2 de sa position initiale, à savoir le bras de trancannage 4 de la tête d'enroulage 17. La correction dynamique du pas de trancannage consiste alors, lorsque l'écart entre les bras de trancannage 4 est trop important, à augmenter la vitesse des bras de trancannage 4 en retard par rapport au bras de trancannage 4 de référence. Cela a pour effet d'augmenter le pas de trancannage et de permettre à tous les bras de trancannage 4 de se positionner en même temps à proximité du système de coupe 11.
