Definitions
- the present invention relates to a process for the synthesis of alkylalkanolamines (hereinafter called AAA), including an improved process for obtaining, particularly at the industrial level, alkylalkanolamines of high purity, with high yields, without the use of epoxy raw materials.
- AAAs and in particular alkylethanolamines, are important intermediate compounds in the chemical industry and in the pharmaceutical industry where they can be used as dispersing agents, emulsifiers, surfactants or in the synthesis of active principles. They are also used as a neutralizing agent in aqueous paints, or as a corrosion inhibitor in lubricants or hydraulic fluids, to name only the most common applications.
- the AAA and in particular the alkylethanolamines, are obtained by reaction of the primary or secondary amines with an epoxide, respectively ethylene oxide, as indicated in the reaction below:
- the secondary amines thus lead to N, N-dialkylethanolamines while the primary amines lead to N-alkylethanolamines or N-alkyldiéthanolamines according to the stoichiometric ratio implemented.
- AAA especially alkylethanolamines, which are colored during the distillation and / or during storage.
- This coloration is due to the presence of conjugated unsaturated impurities and / or carbonyl derivatives and can be particularly troublesome for certain applications, especially in paints (white bases).
- a solution in order to inhibit the compounds capable of providing a coloration, a solution consists in treating the crude reaction product, or the AAA previously distilled, with a reducing agent (such as hydrogen, NaBH 4 , and other).
- a reducing agent such as hydrogen, NaBH 4 , and other.
- the subject of the present invention consists of a direct synthesis process which avoids the manipulation of epoxide functional compounds, in particular ethylene oxide, which is an extremely flammable liquefied gas. and toxic, which process of direct synthesis, after distillation, leads to AAA, especially alkylethanolamines, of high purity, colorless and storage stable, without specific treatment of complementary purification.
- the present invention relates to the process for the preparation of alkylalkanolamines of formula (A):
- R 1 represents a hydroxyalkyl radical, the alkyl part being linear and containing 2 carbon atoms;
- R2 is selected from hydrogen and a linear alkyl radical having 2 carbon atoms, and substituted by one or more hydroxy (-OH) radicals;
- R and R ' which are identical or different, are each chosen from a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxy, alkylamino, dialkylamino or alkoxyalkyl radical, where alkyl is a linear or branched hydrocarbon-based chain containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; carbon, preferably from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and a radical cycloalkyl having from 3 to 9 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R and R 'can not each simultaneously represent the hydrogen atom; or
- R and R ' together form, and with the carbon atom which carries them, a mono-, bi- or poly-cyclic radical, saturated or totally or partially unsaturated, optionally containing one or more heteroatoms, chosen from oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen, said process comprising a reductive amination step, in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst, of a carbonyl compound of formula (1) with a hydroxyalkylamine of formula (2):
- R, R ', Ri and R 2 are as defined above.
- alkyl radical a hydrocarbon radical, optionally substituted, linear or branched containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms, preferably 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or a cyclic hydrocarbon radical containing from 3 to 9 carbon atoms, preferably from 5 to 9 carbon atoms;
- mono-, bi- or polycyclic radical an optionally substituted mono-, bi- or poly-cyclic radical, saturated or totally or partially unsaturated, optionally containing one or more heteroatoms, selected from oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen, with a number of vertices between 3 and 12.
- said radical is monocyclic and comprises from 3 to 9 vertices, preferably it comprises 5, 6 or 7 vertices.
- alkyl methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, n-butyl, sec-butyl, sec-butyl tert-butyl, n-pentyl, n-pentyl, sec-pentyl, neo-pentyl, 1,2-dimethylpropyl, n-hexyl, n -hexyl, sec-hexyl, cyclopentylmethyl, n-heptyl, heptyl, cyclohexylmethyl, n-octyl, / so-octyl, 2-ethylhexyl and n-decyl, preferably methyl, ethyl or propyl; hydroxy-hydroxyalkyl: hydroxymethyl, 1-hydroxyethyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 1-hydroxy-n-propyl;
- ketones those selected from: ketones: acetone, hydroxyacetone, methylethylketone (MEK), methylpropylketone, methylisopropylketone, methylisobutylketone, diethylketone, di- / n-butylketone, tetralone, acetophenone, para-methylacetophenone, para-methoxyacetophenone, m-methoxyacetophenone, 2-aminoacetophenone, 1-phenyl-3-butanone, cyclobutanone, cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone, benzophenone, 2-aminobenzophenone, 3-aminobenzophenone, 4- aminobenzophenone, 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanone, 2,6-dimethylcyclohexanone, cycloheptanone and cyclo-dodecanone; aldehydes: acetaldehyde, prop
- the process according to the present invention consists in a reductive amination of aldehydes or ketones with a monohydroxyalkylamine or a di-hydroxyalkylamine, preferably without the addition of an organic solvent, by operating in a batch or semi-continuous process, in catalysis. heterogeneous (stirred bed of catalyst).
- the process according to the present invention is also preferably carried out with a molar ratio (or RM in the following description) carbonyl compound / amine close to stoichiometry, more preferably with a slight excess of the carbonyl compound relative to to the amine.
- the MR is advantageously between 0.9 and 1, 8, preferably between 1.0 and 1.5, for the monoalkylation of the primary amines. or secondary, and the RM is advantageously 1, 8 and 3.6, preferably between 2.0 and 3.0, more preferably between 2.1 and 2.5, for the dialkylation of primary amines.
- alkylalkanolamines which can thus be obtained according to the process of the present invention are, without limitation, N-sec-butylethanolamine (sBAE) from methyl ethyl ketone and monoethanolamine, N- (n-heptyl) ) diethanolamine (C7DEoA) from n-heptanal and diethanolamine (DEoA), N- (/ so-propyl) ethanolamine from acetone and monoethanolamine (MEoA), N- (n-butyl) diethanolamine with from n-butyraldehyde and diethanolamine (DEoA) and N, N'-di- (n-butyl) ethanolamine from n-butyraldehyde and monoethanolamine (MEoA).
- sBAE N-sec-butylethanolamine
- C7DEoA diethanolamine
- DEoA N- (/ so-propyl) ethanolamine from acetone and monoethanolamine
- MEoA N- (n
- the hydrogenation catalyst can be implemented in the process of the invention may be of any type known to those skilled in the field of hydrogenation of organic compounds. It is preferred to use any type of catalyst usually used for catalytic hydrogenation reactions in a heterogeneous medium.
- Nonlimiting examples of such catalysts may be chosen from metal-based hydrogenation catalysts of groups 8, 9, 10 and 11 of the periodic table of elements (IUPAC), preferably Raney catalysts on the basis of Ni, Co or Cu, palladium (Pd / C type), as well as copper chromites, and more particularly Raney nickel type catalysts.
- the nickel catalyst BLM 112 W (Evonik)
- Amperkat ® SK-Ni Fe Cr 4546 (HC Starck)
- Cu-1955 BASF Catalysts
- Such pre-treatment is recommended, even essential, when the reaction temperature defined for carrying out the reductive amination according to the invention is less than the reduction temperature of said catalyst.
- the process according to the present invention is particularly suitable for the preparation of alkylalkanolamines on an industrial scale, in "batch" or semi-continuous mode, the installations being similar to those generally used for the hydrogenation reactions. .
- the process according to the present invention is carried out under hydrogen pressure, generally between atmospheric pressure and 150 bar, preferably between 5 bar and 80 bar, and more particularly between 10 bar and 50 bar.
- Reaction temperature may vary within wide proportions depending on the nature of the raw materials and the catalysts used, and is generally in a range from 20 0 C to 180 0 C.
- the reaction temperature is preferably between 40 ° C. and 100 ° C. with Raney nickel catalysts and preferably between 120 ° C. and 160 ° C. with copper chromites.
- the hydroxylamines of formula 2, and in particular monoethanolamine (MEoA) and diethanolamine (DEoA) are used in anhydrous form or in the form of commercial aqueous solutions. Due to the melting point of anhydrous DEoA, the commercial aqueous form, for example that titrating 85% is preferred for the purposes of the process according to the present invention.
- the process according to the invention may be carried out in a batch or semi-continuous mode.
- the carbonyl compound of formula (1) is an aldehyde
- the process is advantageously carried out in semi-continuous mode (addition of the aldehyde as and when it is consumed), in order to control the selectivity.
- the process according to the invention is carried out without a solvent, in particular without an organic solvent, it being understood that the amines of formula (2) may be used in aqueous solution as indicated above.
- the catalyst After the reductive amination reaction, after sedimentation of the catalyst and separation of the crude liquid, the catalyst can be reused as such for another reductive amination reaction, that is to say another Reductive amination reaction according to the invention can be carried out on the same foot of catalyst.
- a reducing agent such as hydrogen, NaBH 4 , and the like
- the method according to the present invention has the advantage of being able to overcome a reducing treatment.
- the reaction crude is thus directly engaged in a distillation reaction under reduced pressure, allowing the production of alkylalkanolamines of high purity, colorless, and whose color remains stable during storage.
- the coloration of the sBAE obtained according to the process of the present invention is less than 3 Pt-Co units. After 18 months of storage at ambient temperature in glass packaging (in the dark) or HDPE or 12 months of storage in steel casks, this absence of coloring (less than 3 Pt-Co units) persists.
- the measurement of the color is performed by a spectrophotometric method using a Dr Lange LTM 1 colorimeter according to ISO 6271-2: 2004 (platinum-cobalt scale); the staining is therefore expressed in Pt-Co units (equivalent to the Hazen or APHA units still often used).
- AAA preparation process thus allows to have colorless AAA, or very low coloration, whereas, because of their instability, AAA currently available on the market are generally marketed with specifications of the order of 50 Hazen or 100 Hazen.
- N- (sec-butyl) ethanolamine is prepared from methyl ethyl ketone and monoethanolamine (MEoA), according to the following reaction scheme:
- methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) used (Arkema supplier) is of a standard commercial purity of 99.9%
- the monoethanolamine (MeoA) used in its anhydrous form (supplier: BASF) is greater than 99.7% pure:
- the catalyst used in this example, Cu 1955 P (supplier: BASF Catalysts) is a copper chromite, packaged in soluble sachets.
- the tests are carried out in a 65 L autoclave equipped with a gas / liquid stirring and dispersion system, a double jacket for steam heating or cooling with water, an internal coil. for additional cooling of the reaction medium and pressure and temperature regulators
- the catalyst Cu 1955P (2.3 kg in "SecuBag” type plastic bags) is charged into the autoclave. 34.8 kg of MEK are introduced. The autoclave is purged with nitrogen, then nitrogen is injected to provide pressure in the autoclave of about 2 bar.
- Hydrogen is injected to reach a pressure of 13 bar at room temperature. The agitation and heating of the autoclave are then started.
- the pressure is increased to 20 bars by hydrogen injection.
- the reduction of the catalyst starts at 125 ° C.
- the hydrogen flow rate is limited to 5 Nm 3 / h.
- the pressure then decreases to 9 bar.
- the pressure rises to 28 bars.
- the reaction medium is maintained for an additional 30 minutes at 130 ° C. under 28 bar of hydrogen. After stopping the stirring and sedimentation of the catalyst, the secondary butanol formed is drained.
- the hydrogenation starts at 80 ° C.
- the temperature is gradually increased but in such a way as to maintain a maximum instantaneous flow rate of hydrogen of 5 Nm 3 / h.
- test A the hydrogenation is carried out in 5 h 30 min at a temperature of 130 0 C under a pressure of 28 bar.
- the hydrogenation is carried out for 3 h 30 min at a maximum temperature of 130 ° C and continued for 1 h 30 min at 135 ° C.
- the hydrogenation is carried out in 5 h 30 min directly at a temperature of 135 ° C.
- the reaction medium is cooled to 90 0 C and stirring is stopped. And after degassing the hydrogen to 1 bar, the catalyst is allowed to settle for at least
- the conversion of MEoA is between 98.6% and 99.8% with a selectivity in sBAE vis-à-vis the MEoA between 97.5% and 98.2%, hence a yield gross molar in sBAE compared to the initial MEoA implementation of the order of 96% to 98%.
- a single distillation operation was carried out on a column of about twenty theoretical plates, from 206 kg of the mixture of the preceding crudes.
- a preliminary distillation stage at atmospheric pressure makes it possible to extract the light ones such as residual MEK and B2, as well as most of the water.
- EAK and EAC forming an azeotrope with water are also mainly extracted in this head fraction:
- the distillate is biphasic. After decantation of this fraction of light products, 22.7 kg of an aqueous phase (F1 aq.) And 6.0 kg of an organic phase (F2 aq.) Are recovered from compositions indicated in Table 3 below. . - Table 3 -
- the distillation is then continued under reduced pressure.
- the residual water is removed at the top of the column and the 'pure' SBAE is recovered by lateral withdrawal at a column height of about 70%. Sacking pasteurized sBAE allows the residual MEoA to be concentrated at the top of the column.
- Test K After loading 50 g of Amperkat catalyst in the autoclave (with 95 g of water) and then purging with nitrogen of the autoclave, using a pump 391, 3 g was introduced. Hydrogen is then injected to a pressure of 15 bar and the mixture is heated to 90 0 C with stirring and the hydrogen pressure is adjusted to 28 bar.
- Heptaldehyde (Arkema supplier, purity of 97%) is then introduced using a pump at a rate of 350 g / h while injecting hydrogen to maintain the pressure of 28 bar and all. while maintaining the temperature of the reaction medium at 90 ° C. After the introduction of 487.5 g of heptaldehyde (ie 4.14 mol), the reaction medium is stirred at 90 ° C. and under 28 bar. hydrogen for another 30 minutes.
- test K The test is carried out following the same procedure as for test K, but by directly charging 395 g of DEoA 85% (ie 335.8 net g of DEoA corresponding to 3.19 mol) on the foot. of K-test catalyst kept in the autoclave and injecting 432.3 g (3.67 moles) of heptaldehyde in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Abstract
Description
R1
R (A) dans laquelle :
Ri représente un radical hydroxyalkyle, la partie alkyle étant linéaire et comporte 2 atomes de carbone ;
R2 est choisi parmi l'atome d'hydrogène et un radical alkyle linéaire comportant 2 atomes de carbone, et substitué par un ou plusieurs radicaux hydroxy (-OH) ;

[0018] Parmi les composés de formule (1 ), on préfère ceux choisi parmi : cétones : acétone, hydroxyacétone, méthyléthylcétone (MEK), méthylpropyl- cétone, méthylisopropylcétone, méthylisobutylcétone, diéthylcétone, di-/so-butyl- cétone, tétralone, acétophénone, para-méthylacétophénone, para-méthoxy- acétophénone, m-méthoxy-acétophénone, 2-amino-acétophénone, 1 -phényl-3- butanone, cyclobutanone, cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone, benzophénone, 2-aminobenzophénone, 3-aminobenzophénone, 4-aminobenzophénone, 3,3,5-tri- méthylcyclohexanone, 2,6-diméthylcyclohexanone, cycloheptanone et cyclo- dodécanone ; aldéhydes : acétaldéhyde, propionaldéhyde, n-butyraldéhyde, /so-butyraldéhyde, pivalaldéhyde, valéraldéhyde, n-hexanal, 2-éthylhexanal, les heptanals, en particulier le n-heptanal, les octanals, en particulier le n-octanal, les undécanals, benzaldéhyde, para-méthoxybenzaldéhyde, para-tolualdéhyde, phénylacétal- déhyde, hydroxypivalaldéhyde et furfural ;

• température en tête de colonne : 77°C - 99°C ; • température dans le bouilleur : 1040C - 155°C ;
• pression en tête de colonne : 60 mbar - 70 mbar ;
• température en tête de colonne : 34°C - 1000C ;
• température au niveau du soutirage latéral : 1010C - 103°C ;
• température dans le bouilleur : 1100C - 128°C ; • taux de reflux en tête de colonne - 10 ;

[0077] Après mélange des 3 bruts réactionnels précédents, une opération de purification est réalisée sur une colonne à distiller Sovirel équipé d'un garnissage Multiknit de 1 m. [0078] Après chargement de 2113 g du mélange de C7DEoA brut dans le bouilleur de la colonne, celui-ci est concentré par extraction azéotropique de l'heptanol et de l'eau à pression atmosphérique (température de tête : 96-98°C) puis épuisement de l'eau sous une pression de 50 mbar avec une température maximale dans le bouilleur en fin de concentration de 1500C. [0079] On récupère ainsi 243,2 g d'une fraction organique comprenant 86,2 % d'heptanol, 5,2 % d'eau et 7,6 % d'impuretés organiques puis 312,7 g d'une phase aqueuse comprenant 99,5 % d'eau, 0,25 % d'heptanol et 0,25 % d'impuretés organiques. [0080] La composition du pied (1509,3 g) après concentration est la suivante : • Heptanol : 0,09 % ;
• DEoA : 1 ,86 % ;
• Autres impuretés organiques : 1 ,60 %
• Eau : 0,06 % ;
