Definitions
- the present invention relates to a lower suspension device of a vehicle engine, in particular a three-cylinder engine of a motor vehicle.
- a motor suspension assembly comprises, in a conventional manner, an upper part, above the engine, and a lower part, hereafter called “lower suspension device”, which extends under the engine and is fixed to the latter to resume the efforts, in particular the efforts of roll, generated by the engine explosions.
- This lower suspension device has the general shape of a crossbar, which is not linear so as to match the ground clearance and whose positioning is designed to avoid the oil pan and the exhaust.
- the cross member has an elastic member, which has the function of absorbing the vibrations of the engine.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a lower suspension device for a vehicle engine, in particular a three-cylinder engine of a motor vehicle, which makes it possible to better apprehend the movements of the engine than do the known sleepers of the prior art.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide such a lower suspension device, which allows to have a fixing point under the powertrain of the vehicle without this suspension device is necessarily exactly placed under the center of gravity of the engine.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide such a lower suspension device, which is easily removable.
- the present invention relates to a lower suspension device of a motor vehicle engine, which comprises a suspension crossbar, which extends under the engine and is connected at both ends to the structure of the vehicle. vehicle, and a mounting bracket, which includes a fastening portion on the engine and a fastening portion on the suspension crossbar.
- the portion of the support which serves to fasten on the engine is substantially vertical and the portion of the support which serves as a fastener on the suspension crossbar is substantially horizontal.
- this fixing portion on the suspension cross member is housed and held inside the suspension crossbar via an elastic shim wrapping said fixing portion on the suspension crossbar.
- the fastening portion on the suspension cross member and the elastic shim which surrounds it are housed inside a hollow body or "frame", which is itself fixed in the body of the suspension crossbar.
- the suspension crossbar is hollow and the frame is fixed in a housing of the suspension crossbar formed by a wall and internal partitions of the suspension crossbar.
- a closure plate which closes the housing in which is fixed the frame and which is removably attached to the suspension crossbar so as to allow easy separation the mounting bracket and the suspension crossbar.
- the closure plate may be a section plate shaped "L", a branch of the "L” being applied to the side wall of the suspension cross member opposite the mounting bracket, and the other leg of the "L” being applied to the bottom wall of the frame so as to maintain the latter in its housing of the suspension crossbar.
- the closure plate can be mounted on the suspension beam by means of fixing screws, for example.
- the part of the fixing support which is elastically fixed on the suspension crossbar, and the elastic shim, which surrounds said part of the support, are housed directly inside a cavity of the suspension crossbar.
- the elastic wedge may be, for example, substantially oval section and the cavity of the suspension crossbar is then substantially corresponding oval section.
- the elastic shim is preferably made of rubber.
- the mounting bracket may have several anchor points on the engine, which may be selected from the following points: boss of the gearbox, boss of the engine.
- the suspension crossbar of the device of the invention can be fixed by its front end to a transverse cross member of the vehicle structure, located at the front of the vehicle and can be fixed by its rear end on the cradle of the vehicle.
- the present invention also relates to a motor vehicle, for example a three-cylinder engine vehicle, which comprises a lower engine suspension device according to that described above in outline.
- FIG. 1 is a bottom view, in perspective, of the central part of the lower engine suspension device, according to the present invention
- FIG. 2 is a top view, in perspective, of the entire lower suspension device of the invention, including its end portions fixed to the structure of the motor vehicle, FIG. cutting of the elastic fastening assembly of the suspension device 1 of the invention,
- FIG. 4 is a view of the elastic fastening assembly along the line IV-IV of FIG. 3
- FIG. 5 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the lower suspension device according to the present invention. .
- a suspension assembly of a motor 1 which may be, for example, a three-cylinder engine.
- This type of three-cylinder engine conventionally has the triple advantage of being lighter, consuming less fuel and emitting fewer pollutants.
- This lower part of the suspension assembly referred to in the present text as "lower suspension device”, is formed by a suspension crossmember 2 extending under the engine 1 of the vehicle and a motor mounting bracket, of general reference 3, described in detail in the following text and intended to fix the anchoring point 4 the device of the invention on the engine 1.
- the motor suspension assembly also comprises an upper part, designated by the general reference 5, of conventional design and known per se, therefore not described in the present text.
- This upper part 5 of the suspension assembly serves to provide at least two upper attachment points of the engine which cooperate with the anchor point 4 provided by the lower suspension device - object of the invention - to fully understand the movements of the suspended motor .
- the suspension crossbar 2 is fixed at its rear end to the cradle 6 of the vehicle and, at its front end, to a cross member 7 located at the front of the vehicle (not shown).
- a cross member 7 located at the front of the vehicle (not shown).
- the cradle extensions can be replaced by hangers at the front of the shafts of the vehicle structure.
- the fastening support 3 has a substantially "L" -shaped cross-section, and has a rigid fastening portion 3A on the engine 1 and an elastic fastening portion 3B on the suspension cross-member. 2.
- the fixing portion 3A on the engine 1 is substantially vertical.
- the fixing portion 3B on the suspension crossbar 2 is substantially horizontal and is housed and held inside the suspension crossbar 2 by means of an elastic shim 8 which surrounds the fixing portion 3B.
- the fixing portion 3B and the elastic wedge 8 are housed inside a hollow body - or frame -, reference 9, which is itself fixed in the body of the suspension crossbar 2.
- the frame 9 has the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped and is fixed, by shape matching, in a correspondingly shaped housing of the suspension crossbar 2.
- the suspension crossbar 2 is hollow and the housing of the suspension crossbar, in which is fixed the frame 9, is constituted by the wall portion 2A of the suspension crossbar 2, the internal partitions 2B and 2C of the suspension crossbar 2, substantially perpendicular to the wall 2A, and a wall 10B of a closure plate, of general reference 10, which is fixed to the crossbar of suspension 2.
- the frame 9 is thus trapped and held in the housing as defined by the walls 2A, 10B and the partitions 2B, 2C.
- the closure plate 10 is removable, so as to offer the possibility of removing the elastic fixing assembly constituted by the fixing support 3 and the elastic shim 8.
- the closure plate 10 is an "L" section plate, the first leg of the "L”, referenced 1OA, is applied to the side wall 2F of the suspension crossbar 2 opposite the fixing support 3, the second branch of the "L” is the wall 10B, mentioned above, which closes the housing of the frame 9.
- This wall 10B is extended by a rim referenced 1OC which removably locks the previously defined elastic fastening assembly.
- the closure plate 10 is mounted on the suspension crossbar 2 by fixing screws 11 shown in FIGS. 1 and 4.
- the elastic shim 8 is preferably made of rubber. It may have inner pockets 8a to increase the elasticity of the shim in the two main deformation directions, namely the X and Z directions of the vehicle. Referring to Figure 5, there is shown an alternative embodiment of the lower suspension device of the present invention.
- the device is formed of a suspension crossbar 102 extending under the engine of the vehicle and a motor mounting bracket, general reference 103.
- the mounting bracket 103 has a rigid attachment portion 103A on the engine and an elastic attachment portion 103B on the suspension crossbar 102.
- the attachment portion 103A on the engine is substantially vertical and the attachment portion 103B on the crossbar of the suspension 102 is substantially horizontal and is housed and maintained inside the suspension crossbar 102 by means of an elastic shim 108 which surrounds the attachment portion 103B.
- the elastic shim 108 preferably rubber, is of substantially oval section and housed in a cavity 105 of the suspension cross member 102, of corresponding oval section. Equivalently with the elastic shim 8 of the previously described embodiment of the invention, the elastic shim 108 may have inner pockets 108a to increase the elasticity of the shim in the two main deformation directions, namely the directions in X and Z of the vehicle.
- the fixing support 3, respectively 103 may comprise several anchoring points 4, respectively 104, on the engine, which may be selected from the following points: gearbox boss, engine boss.
- the present invention has the advantage of providing a fixing point under the power unit having a crossbar which may not necessarily be disposed under the center of gravity of the engine, therefore which may have a remote positioning which facilitates an elastic attachment .
- Another advantage lies in the easily removable nature of the elastic fastening assembly on the suspension crossbar thanks to the removable closure plate.
