Definitions

  • This invention is related to a flat or round wire stapling head in order to staple flat materials, such as any type of carton or corrugated board sheet, wooden sheet, paper blocks or similar materials, when they are moving forward and therefore to execute the stapling with synchronising of its speed, by its backward and forward pendular movement, to the speed of the feeding materials in the exact moment when the staple is penetrating in order to joint different sheets or to joint the borders of the same sheet.
  • staple flat materials such as any type of carton or corrugated board sheet, wooden sheet, paper blocks or similar materials
  • the technology of this type of wire stapler apparatus has been well known by this branch industry and mainly by corrugated carton converting industry for at least 40 years also because it has been dealt with patents as the patent DE-A-32221067 , the patent EP89104053 , the patent FR2170345(A5 ), the patent MI 96 A 1427 and others related to aspects of the same technology.
  • the stapling apparatus is the essential component of the stapling machines or units, which work automatically or in complex lines, that are projected and made in according to the type of material, their sizes and the manufacture that must be executed to obtain the stapled product.
  • the wire stapling of the moving sheet besides the unrolling of the wire, the repeated cutting of the wire destined for staple making, the folding of the wire segment in order to shape the staple with its spine and two stems, the pressure on the shaped staple in order to have it penetrating in guided way in the feeding sheets and rivets it, also involves also the simultaneous pendular movement of the device that makes the stapling in order to synchronize its forward movement at the speed of the feeding sheets in the phase of the penetration of the staple in the sheets.
  • the essential characteristic of the above technology constituted by the basic idea of pushing the staples in an advancing carton sheet or other avoiding to tear the sheet is till now substantially unchanged.
  • the necessary synchronization of the speeds is produced by the pendular movement of the stapling head that in the tip which shall contact the advancing material moves at that same speed while the opposite side of the stapling head is fixed at the structure of the apparatus in a way that lets it turn. Only one motor moves all the devices which make the staple, stitch it and generate the pendular movement through mechanical connections.
  • the fixed ratio set by the mechanical connections between the movements of the devices remains necessarily unvaried in order to repeat the stitches for unlimited cycles.
  • the above well known technology has generated several innovations and patents that have added mechanical devices in order to have more elasticity in the work of the apparatus.
  • the kinematics of the stapling devices (the wire guide from the bobbin, the stapling head that cuts the wire, shapes the staple and guide it on the sides, the pressor, the mandrin, the pendularism levers and other accessories) is driven by one principal motor which is added with accessories motors in order to assist the wire when unrolling, the adjustment of the head stapling level according to the thickness to staple, the adjustment of the pendulum run and other accessories adjustments.
  • the existing technology does not let the easy increase of the stapling speed it involves the change of mechanic components when it is chosen to change the length of the staple stems, involves the increase of the wire thickness in order to staple by longer stems, produces a remarkable weight of the device to move in pendular way, requires a notable technical competence for the apparatus making, for its maintenance and for its mechanical set-up of the movements of the working components.
  • This invention makes the making and the use of the pendular stapling apparatus easier as it gets il rid of many mechanical parts that are needed to connect the movement of the devices and tools that shape the wire staple and make it penetrate and rivet properly in the feeding material or sheets moving forward the stapling head at the same speed, in that phase.
  • This invention which leads to other innovation concerning the the position and the shape of the devices and tools, is constituted by the reduction of the articulated system of eccentrics, cams, levers and similar devices that, according to prearranged ratio to execute their works in the traditional pendular heads transmit the movement generated by the main motor to all the related devices which are:
  • This invention generate the reduction of articulate systems of eccentrics, cams, levers, arms and similar components replacing the main motor with 3 separated controllable motors, one ( Fig. 1 N° 4) that generates the movements of the staple former by its eccentric ( Fig.1 N° 7) and its driving lever ( Fig 1 N° 8), one ( Fig 1 N° 5) that generates the movements of the pressor by its eccentric( Fig 1 N° 9) and its drive lever( Fig 1 N° 10) and one ( Fig 1 N° 6)that generates by its eccentric( Fig 1 N° 11) the movement to the right arm ( Fig 1 N° 12) and the left arm( Fig 1 N° 13) that supports the stapling head( Fig 1 N°1) to give it pendular movement.
  • the two arms( Fig 1 N° 12 and N° 13) that support the stapling head ( Fig 1 N° 1) and give it pendular movement are hooked to the fixed part of the stapling apparatus( Fig 2 N° 14) which itself is hooked to the structure of the machine or to the stitcher unit on which it is mounted.
  • this invention can be carried out also by the use of only two of the programmable motors, one( Fig 5 N° 6) which drives the movements of the levers ( Fig 1 N° 12 and Nà 13) of the pendularism and one which drives the movements of the stapling head devices( Fig 1 N° 1).
  • the movements of the stapling head makes it possible to reduce the total electric power installed and it is made functional by the use of its electronic devices and by aimed software that can control the setting of the programmable motors ( Fig 1 N° 4, 5, 6 and Fig 5 N° 22) of the apparatus and of the other motors for accessories works and the feeding of the sheets or other materials to stitch, which can work independently one from another..
  • the new driven movement of this invention makes it more simple the making and the maintenance of the stapling apparatus endorsed with pendularism, limit its requirement of lubrication and reduce its noisiness. Besides the other innovations coming from the above simplifications let reduce the quantity of wire for the stapling. More over it increases the efficiency of the stapling by realising the best combination of the movements, also by making it possible to change them during each cycle, of the staple former, of the pressor and of the pendularism, making automatically possible to increase the stapling speeds, the variability of the distance between the stitchs and the length of the staple stems.
  • this invention is constituted also by a new cutting device ( Fig 3 N° 16) that can cut the wire segment (round or flat) and form the staple so that the cutting shall not be made in connection with the staple former( Fig 3 N° 17) as in all the now known pendular stapling heads where the length of the wire segment is fixed by the size of that staple former.
  • the cutting work is made by the application of a wire cutting device ( Fig 3 N° 16)separated from the staple former ( Fig 3 N° 17) and driven by a returning lever( Fig 3 N° 15) from the slide ( Fig 3 N° 2) of the staple former ( Fig 3 N° 2).
  • the control of the length of the staple is made by an adjusting screw ( Fig 3 N° 18) mounted in a way that makes it possible to adjust the distance between the two devices and therefore to vary the point where the cutting of the wire must be made, making so the automatic change of the wire segment length that is sent to staple former( Fig 3 N° 17) by the mandrel( Fig 4 N° 19)) possible.
  • the simple manual or automatic adjustment of the distance between the above two devices above described and the feeding of the wire (round or flat) by a programmable motor avoids the changes of the staple former ( Fig 3 N° 17 and 17 bis) when it is required the thickness of the sheets to stitch,
  • This invention avoids the waste of the wire, improves the stitching making it possible to have always the required riveting length and to avoid the changing of the staple former ( Fig 3 N° 17).
  • This invention is besides formed by the possibility of adding a new device particularly suitable for the stapling heads ( Fig 1 N° 1)with pendular movements which is made by an anvil ( Fig 4 N° 22) that contains and guides the staple stems also from inside the staple itself during the phase of its penetration in the sheets.
  • the staple former which hasn't got to cut the wire segment any, ore, is made accessible also from the back either getting a suitable notch in the sole body of the staple former( Fig 3 N° 17) or alternatively making a staple former device ( Fig 3 N° 17 bis) made by two parallel grooved metal segments and both of them fixed at the slide.
  • the pressor( Fig 4 N°24) in its coming down phase acts .gradually on the inclined plane of the containment and guide anvil ( Fig 4 N° 20) pushing it outside from the stems of the staple letting the space gradually free in order to complete the penetration in the stapling material.
  • the following cycle starts when the staple former ( Fig 3 N° 17) come back to the upper position and when the spring ( Fig 4 N° 21) start to push the anvil inside the new making staple.
  • the use of the guide and containment anvil device of the staple stems also from the inner side in the phase of the bigger peak load for the penetration make the stapling of the harder and thicker materials easier and makes the use of smaller round or flat wire with smaller section and consiquently less heavy possible.
  • This invention is completed by the electronic devvice that can control the driving of the controllable motors for the pendularism and stapling works ( Fig 1 N° 4, 5, 6 and Fig 5 N° 22)and of the programmable motor for the wire derolling in a way that it forms a system where each device can be moved by its motor to execute its work in combination with the other devices that according this invention contribute to make the correct stapling.
  • the above described invention can suitable of variants if required by building and industrials needs or by the market conditions and it can include systems and means provided that remains within its purpose.
  • the stapling/stitching by staple coming continuously from round or flat wire is largely used in the building of carton, corrugated carton or wood packages, of wood or carton platform and in the paper binding.
  • the apparatus of this invention has the main purpose to replace the old apparatus working on stitching machines or units working at the moment in order to make it easier to use them and to increase their productivity.
  • the factory that requires the patent shall use the apparatus of this invention on the stapling/stitching machines and units of its production in order to enlarge its selling market.
