Definitions
- the invention relates to a switching arrangement for operating a low-pressure gas discharge lamp having a first and a second coil, between which a gas discharge can be formed, in particular a switching arrangement according to the preamble of claim 1.
- such a switching arrangement comprises a device for generating a time-varying potential at a node (ie a voltage from the node to a reference point, for example to ground), wherein the node is connected via a first inductive element (inductance) to the first coil ,
- the switching arrangement further comprises a so-called heating circuit, namely a circuit forming a circuit with the rest of the switching arrangement, which comprises a switch, namely the semicircle serves to electrically connect the first coil to the second coil, which is the case, when the switch is closed.
- the switch is closed by means of a timing when the low-pressure gas discharge lamp is switched on, before its ignition, so that a heating current (generated at the node due to the potential) flows through both coils and preheats the coil. Preheating facilitates the subsequent ignition to be initiated. Ignition is the switch opened, and the first inductive element cooperates with a switched between the first coil and the second coil resonant capacitor: By resonance, a particularly high voltage is generated, namely the ignition voltage. The ignition causes the onset of the gas discharge, and in the subsequent operation of the low-pressure gas discharge lamp, the operating voltage is then substantially lower than the ignition voltage. During operation, the switch remains permanently open.
- a circuit arrangement is for example from the Scriptures WO 93/12631 known.
- the semicircle (ie the heating circuit) should itself have the lowest possible resistance so that as much energy of the heating current causes the heating of the coils.
- the heating circuit thus usually consists only of the switch whose one connection is connected via a connecting line to the first coil and the other connection via a connecting line to the second coil.
- the size of the heating current is determined by the other components of the switching arrangement. Since, of course, the preheating is subordinate to the ignition and the continuous operation of the low-pressure gas discharge lamp, the other components of the switching arrangement for ignition and continuous operation, but not optimized for preheating. It therefore often comes in the art to the situation that the heating current is incorrectly dimensioned. A particular disadvantage is when the heating current is too low and thus the preheating time is too long.
- a second inductive element (inductance) is thus provided in the semicircle.
- the developer who wants to use the given switching principle and has to select the components concretely and in this case has to select their properties (capacitances of the capacitors, inductances of the inductive elements, etc.), an additional degree of freedom is available through the second inductive element.
- an additional degree of freedom is available through the second inductive element.
- the second inductive element is magnetically coupled to the first inductive element so that the effect of a transformer is achieved. Due to the magnetic coupling, the switching arrangement is stabilized in their operation, the sizes of the components mentioned can be adjusted sensitively accurate.
- the magnetic coupling is such that the first and the second inductive element are each provided as a coil on a winding body, on a common bobbin both elements.
- Each coil is provided by at least one winding.
- a core made of soft magnetic material can be provided in the winding body, which is therefore also common to the first and the second inductive element.
- the second inductive element makes it possible for the first time to influence the voltage applied to the switch in the semicircle. Particularly in the case of ignition, very high voltages of more than 1000 volts are present between the two coils of the low-pressure gas discharge lamp. In the prior art, the switch, which is open at ignition, must withstand these stresses. Suitable switches are very expensive. An example of a switch that can withstand 1000 volts of voltage is a so-called 1200V IGBT. It is now a preferred embodiment that the second inductive element is coupled to the first inductive element exactly so that when the switch is open, a portion of the voltage dropping between the first and second filaments drops across the second inductive element.
- the effect of the second inductive element should not be such that the voltage applied to the switch is increased compared to the situation without a second inductive element, but is reduced.
- 500 volts of the 1000 volts ignition voltage can drop across the second inductive element, so that then 500 Volt applied to the switch.
- Switches, which tolerate an applied voltage of 500 volts are less expensive than switches that tolerate an applied voltage of 1000 volts.
- a 600V MOSFET can be used, and this is less expensive than the aforementioned 1200V IGBT.
- FIG. 1 shows a circuit diagram of a switching arrangement according to the invention.
- a low-pressure gas discharge lamp labeled L in the figure has a first coil W1 and a second coil W2.
- the low-pressure gas discharge lamp L is to operate with an AC voltage.
- the switching arrangement generates this alternating voltage from a DC voltage Udc by means of a device for generating a time-varying potential which comprises a half-bridge, namely two switches which are switched on and off alternately by a half-bridge control HS.
- the switches are designed as transistors T1 and T2 with parallel-connected diodes D1 and D2 (so-called freewheeling diodes).
- a sequence of rectangular voltage pulses defined to the second node K2 obtained (ie, a time-varying potential at the node K1).
- a time-varying potential is actually achieved at the node K1 with pulses in a form that deviates from a rectangular shape.
- the flanks are flattened compared to a perfect rectangular potential.
- the node K1 is not directly connected to the coil W1, but via a lamp inductor LD, in this case via a first inductive element LI1.
- the second coil W2 is connected via a coupling capacitor CK to the node K2.
- First inductive element LI1 and coupling capacitor CK are designed exactly so that the operating current is optimized.
- the low-pressure gas discharge lamp L In order to achieve the operating state at all, the low-pressure gas discharge lamp L must first be ignited. In order to provide a relatively high ignition voltage, the effect of the resonance is used.
- a resonance capacitor CR is provided which is connected in parallel to the path of the gas discharge, that is to say acts with a first connection on the coil W1 and a second connection on the coil W2. Together with the first inductive element LI1, the resonance capacitor R forms an LC resonant circuit which causes the ignition voltage to be generated.
- a heating circuit with a switch S is provided. If the switch S is closed, controlled by a timer ZS, a current flows through the entire helices W1 and W2 and heats them up.
- a second inductive element LI2 is now provided in the heating circuit. In the present case, this is formed in the same lamp inductor LD as the first inductive element Li1.
- the lamp inductor may comprise a winding body surrounding a core, and the first inductive element LI1 may comprise a first number of windings and the second inductive element LI2 may comprise a second number of windings connected as shown in the figure.
- the inductive elements LI1 and LI2 are coupled directly to each other magnetically, as is the case with a transformer.
- the second inductive element LI2 influences the size of the heating current, which is a first object of the invention.
- a second object of the invention is to relieve the switch S at the time of ignition. Without the second inductive element LI2, the entire ignition voltage would be applied to the terminals of the switch S, and it must be provided a switch S, which tolerates the entire ignition voltage. In a suitable winding direction of the windings of the first and second inductive element LI1 and LI2 to each other falls on the second inductive element LI2 exactly a voltage of that polarity that the voltage at the switch S is reduced compared to the state without the second inductive element LI2. Thus, the switch S no longer tolerates the entire ignition voltage and can be designed more cost-effective.
- the device shown in the figure for generating a temporally changing potential at the node K1 is only an example. There are also other embodiments conceivable.
- the core of the invention is the provision of the second inductive element LI2 in the heating circuit, which according to the invention is magnetically coupled to the first inductive element LI1.
