    - a metering cylinder (11), which is assigned to the glue-applying cylinder (8) and which makes it possible to set the layer thickness of the glue on the glue-applying cylinder (8),
    - wherein the circumferential speeds of the aforementioned cylinders (5, 8, 11) can be set independently of one another,
    wherein a computing and control device (16) is provided in order for it to be possible to set the ratio of the circumferential speeds of the glue-applying cylinder (8) and of the metering cylinder (11) and/or the ratio of the circumferential speeds of the glue-applying cylinder (8) and of the format or plate cylinder (5) in dependence on the properties of the glue applied to the workpieces (3),
    characterized by the provision of
    - a display or output device (17), which displays glues and information relating to each glue,
    - an input means (18), via which the machine operator can select, and determine, a glue, and
    - a memory, from which, on the basis of the glue determined, the associated value for the ratio of the circumferential speed of the glue-applying cylinder (8) and of the metering cylinder (11) and/or for the ratio of the circumferential speeds of the glue-applying cylinder (8) and of the format or plate cylinder (5) can be retrieved by the computing and control apparatus.
  4. Apparatus (1) according to the preceding claim,
    characterized by the provision of
    a memory device, in which values for the ratios of the circumferential speeds of the aforementioned cylinders (5, 8, 11) are stored for various glue properties.
