Definitions

  • the invention relates to floor drain traps, which are used widely to isolate the drainage, without obstructing the outflow of liquids.
  • the floor drain traps are widely used in buildings and possibly elsewhere as well (e.g. industrial use). In all houses, for instance, there is at least one floor drain trap, in the bathroom floor. Through it, the waste-water of the sanitary ware and the bathroom floor outflows. Its purpose is to block the smells and the various insects, animalcules or rodents, which get into the houses through the drainage system.
  • the floor drain traps used until now have the drawback of not always keeping the smells and the various bothersome or pestiferous animalcules or insects out of the building. Also, some times, they are voluminous and clumsy.
  • the safe floor drain trap comprises a proper collecting tank of the liquids to be drained. At the lower part of the sidewall of the collecting tank and lower than the inflow openings, an outflow pipe is adapted to take the liquids to the drainage system.
  • the outflow pipe is of appropriate size and shape so that adequate quantity of liquid is withheld in the collecting tank and in the outflow pipe itself, so that the flow of air and the passage of animalcules and insects from the drainage to the drain trap is fully blocked.
  • the advantage of the invention is that the new drain trap is of low cost and size, is installed relatively easy, is simple in its use and maintenance, and most important, fully blocks the entrance of smells, animalcules and insects from the drainage.
  • FIG. 1A, 1 B Show indicatively a variation of the safe floor drain trap, in perspective view and in cross section.
  • the drainage pipes from the sanitary ware are connected to the collecting tank of the waste-water (3). Hereafter they will be called inflow pipes (1 ).
  • the connection is made through the inflow openings (2), which usually are found in the same level, although this is not mandatory.
  • the collecting tank of the waste-water (3) may have any appropriate shape and size (e.g. cylindrical). At its upper section it is equipped with the usual small grating (8) to drain the bath floor water. The grating (8) may be detached, as usual, to clean the drain trap.
  • a pipe is adapted.
  • this will be called the outflow pipe (5). Its connection to the collecting tank (3) is made through the outflow opening (4).
  • the outflow pipe (5) is of appropriate size and shape, so that the collecting tank holds an adequate quantity of water (3), as well as the outflow pipe itself (5), and in this way the flow of air and the passage of animalcules and insects is fully blocked from the drainage to the bathroom. Connection of the outflow pipe (5) to the drainage pipes is made through the exit mouth (6).
  • the outflow pipe is of shape double right angle or of stairs steps.
  • the water level (7) covers the parts of collecting tank (3) exactly under the inflow mouths (2) and the horizontal and vertical section of the outflow pipe (5), up to the exit mouth (6). Under this arrangement it is impossible for the smells to enter the bathroom.
  • the air to the new drain trap meets first the water surface in the outflow pipe (5). Given that the pipe cross section is limited, the air presses the water surface uniformly and simply moves the entire water mass slightly inside the outflow pipe (5) and the collecting tank (3), until its pressure force is attenuated. Therefore, it cannot force its way through the mass of water and enter the bathroom space.
  • the animalcules and insects also are very hard to pass through the solid mass of water in the outflow pipe (5) and in the process, of it in the collecting tank (3). Also, it is very difficult an air draught from the drainage to carry them along, since this as well do not penetrate the water but simply moves it a little. Besides, because the cross section of the outflow pipe (5) is limited, the water covers at intervals all the internal surface of the pipe, and as a result it carries along any animalcules or insects that nest near the water surface, at the exit mouth (6).
  • the outflow opening (4) may be equipped with some mesh or something similar, in order to hold the bulky wastes that might obstruct the outflow pipe (5).
