Abstract

The escapement has an escape wheel set (1) driven by a gear train, and a balance (2) associated with a balance spring. A balance launching unit uses the energy developed by the wheel set for launching the balance periodically. A wheel set locking unit locks the wheel set temporarily after each launch of the balance. Impulse pallet stones (3, 4) are secured to the balance and cooperate directly with teeth of the wheel set. A brake lever (5) is driven periodically by the balance, where the brake lever is provided with locking pallet stones (6, 7) cooperating with the teeth of the wheel set.

Description

The present invention relates to an escapement for a timepiece comprising an escape wheel driven by a gear train, a balance wheel with which is associated a spiral, means using the energy developed by the mobile to periodically restart the balance and means to temporarily block said mobile after each restart of said balance.

Most of the known escapements obey the very general description just given.

This is the case of the Swiss lever escapement where the means of raising the balance wheel and rest of the mobile are combined in an anchor comprising two pallets, each of which fulfills both the function of raising the balance wheel and that of rest of the mobile escape. In this system the balance receives two pulses per oscillation, not directly, but through the anchor interposed between the escapement mobile and the balance.

This is also the case for the coaxial escapement and the single-wheel escapement described in the book entitled: "The Watch: principles and methods of manufacture" by George Daniels, Editions Scriptar SA La Conversion, Lausanne 1993, pages 240 to 248 . In these exhausts the means of rest of the mobile escape are provided by an anchor with two pallets of rest. The means of stimulating the balance are provided firstly by a first pulse pallet disposed on the anchor and secondly by a second pulse pallet disposed on the balance plate. In these systems, the balance also receives two pulses per oscillation, one indirect by the first pallet disposed on the anchor and the other direct by the second pallet disposed on the plate.

We also know of the document EP-A-1,045,297 an escapement for a timepiece comprising an escapement wheel driven by a cog, a balance wheel with which is associated a spiral, means using the energy developed by the mobile to periodically restart the pendulum and means for temporarily blocking said mobile after each raising of said balance, a blocker driven periodically by the balance, this blocker being provided with first and second pallets of rest arranged to cooperate with said teeth of said mobile, said escapement further comprising a first integral pulse pallet of the balance and cooperating directly with the teeth of which the mobile is provided.

Thus, from the knowledge of the authors of the present invention, there is no escapement where the balance receives two pulses per oscillation, ie an alternating pulse, these pulses being imparted directly to the balance by the escapement mobile without elements. intermediate. It will be understood that a direct action of the mobile escapement on the balance can only increase the efficiency of the system since it avoids intercalated parts.

The invention therefore relates to an escapement defined by claim 1 of the patent.

The invention will now be explained in detail below by an embodiment given by way of non-limiting example, this embodiment being illustrated by the appended drawings in which:
  • the figure 1 is a plan view of the exhaust according to the invention, and
  • the Figures 2 to 13 are plan views explaining the operating phases of the escapement according to the invention, these phases covering a complete oscillation of the balance.

The figure 1 is a plan view of the exhaust mechanism according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. This exhaust comprises an exhaust mobile 1 driven by a train, the latter being not shown in the drawing. This wheel is generally driven by a barrel and rotates, when it is driven in the direction indicated by the arrow 30. The escapement further comprises a balance 2 associated with a spiral not shown here. The balance 2 is partially represented by a serge 11 and four spokes 18, 19, 20, 21. The rocker 2 pivots on an axis or shaft 10 and rotates in the direction of the arrows 31 or 32 according to the considered alternation. Means are implemented that use the energy developed by the mobile 1 to periodically restart the balance 2. These means comprise first and second pulse pallets 3 and 4 which are integral with the balance 2 and which cooperate directly with the teeth which is provided with the mobile 1. Other means are implemented to temporarily block the mobile 1 after each restart of the balance 2. These means consist of a blocker 5 pivoting on an axis or shaft 14. The blocker is driven periodically by the balance 2 and is equipped with first and second rest pallets 6 and 7 arranged to cooperate with the teeth of the mobile 1.

More precisely, and as the figure 1 which happens to be one of a number of embodiments relating to the invention, the escapement wheel 1 comprises a plurality of wheels integral with each other and coaxially mounted on each other, ie in this case at least one first wheel 8 of large diameter and a second wheel 9 of smaller diameter. The impulse pallet 3 is arranged to cooperate with the large wheel 8 and the impulse pallet 4 is arranged to cooperate with the small wheel 9.

It can be shown that the use of two wheels 8 and 9 of different diameters makes it possible to increase the operational safety of the system. In these conditions indeed, the angle during which a tooth of the wheel 8 accompanies the pulse pallet 3 (see Figures 4 and 5 ) and the angle during which a tooth of the wheel 9 accompanies the pulse pallet 4 (see Figures 10 and 11 ), are significantly larger than if the mobile escape 1 was equipped with a single wheel. Thus increasing the angle of contact or contact between tooth and pallet can only ensure better operational safety of the entire exhaust, as it is True, a too small angle leaves no safety reserve, given the manufacturing tolerances inherent in the mechanical parts involved here.

The figure 1 shows again that the first and second pallet rest 6 and 7 are arranged to cooperate with the small diameter wheel 9. However, the invention is not limited to this way of doing things. Indeed, these pallets of rest could just as well cooperate with the teeth of the ferris wheel 8 or cooperate with an additional wheel that would be entirely devolving.

The small diameter wheel 9 of the figure 1 could be unique and stamped in one piece. For convenience of manufacture we have chosen to use two identical wheels 22 and 23 mounted on one another and angularly offset. (The drawing shows here two slightly different diameters for a good understanding of the assembly).

It will be observed again that the large wheel 8 constituting the escapement wheel 1 is entirely confined in a space extending between the axis 10 and the beam 11 of the balance 2. More particularly, the first pulse pallet 3 is located in a peripheral zone of the pendulum 2 which could be its serge 11, but that the exemplary embodiment located at the end of one of the spokes 18 which is provided with said balance. This arrangement is entirely new since the balance is used here not only as regulator of the timepiece, but also, through the pallet 3, as part of its own recovery by one of the teeth which is provided with the first and large escape wheel 8. As for the second pulse pallet 4, the figure 1 shows that it is fixed to the end of a leg 12 to cooperate with the teeth of the second and small escape wheel 9. The other end 15 of the leg 12 is fixed near or around the axis This end of leg 12 could be compared to plateau that is commonly encountered in watchmaking and this especially as it is equipped with an ankle 17 as will be seen below.

Ce dard n'est pas représenté sur la figure 1.The figure 1 shows finally how is realized the blocker 5 installed to temporarily block the mobile escape 1 after each restart of the pendulum. The blocker 5 is a rocker 13 articulated on an axis 14. It is equipped with first and second pallet rest 6 and 7 arranged to cooperate with the second and small escape wheel 9. The blocker 5 has a fork 16 arranged to cooperate with an ankle 17 which, as seen in the above paragraph, is integral with the balance 2 or, more exactly, the end 15 of the leg 12 itself attached to the balance, this pin 17 being located at near the axis 10 of said balance. The figure 1 shows again that the blocker 5 is provided with a shank 24 to limit its excursion between two limiting pins 25 and 26. The fork 16 is normally equipped with a dart which prevents accidental tilting of the blocker. This sting is not represented on the figure 1 .

We will now explain the operation of the exhaust according to the invention. A complete oscillation of the balance 2 is illustrated at Figures 2 to 13 . The different phases of operation will be reviewed below.

The escapement mobile 1 is at rest, retained that it is by the pallet rest 6 which bears on the tooth 40 of the second and small wheel 9. The tail 24 of the blocker 5 bears on the limiting pin 25. The pin 17 integral with the rocker 2 has penetrated into the free space that the fork 16 has and has come into contact with a tooth of this fork. This is the start of the release phase of the rest pallet 6.

On remarquera par ailleurs qu'en tournant, le balancier 2 a amené la première palette d'impulsion 3 dont il est pourvu à couper la trajectoire de la dent 50 de la première grande roue 8 composant le mobile d'échappement 1.As shown in figure 3 , the rocker 2 continued to rotate in the direction of the arrow 31 pivoting the blocker 5 in the direction of the arrow 33. This pivoting brings the pallet rest 6 to the end of the tooth 40 of the wheel 9 and out of the right-of-way of this tooth. This is the release phase of the escapement mobile 1. It will also be noted that by turning, the balance 2 has brought the first pulse pallet 3 which it is provided to cut the trajectory of the tooth 50 of the first Ferris wheel 8 making up the exhaust mobile 1.

In figure 4 the escapement mobile 1 is released and rotates in the direction of the arrow 30 actuated that it is by its wheel driven in turn by a barrel. The tooth 50 of the ferris wheel 8 has caught the pulse pallet 3 secured to the balance 2 and then comes into contact with it. This is a pulse start phase intended to restart the pendulum.

The end of pulse phase is shown in figure 5 . The escapement wheel 1, rotating in the direction of the arrow 30, brought the tooth 50 of its large wheel 8 in the position shown in the figure, that is to say on the point of letting go. It will be observed that by turning, the rocker 2 continued to drive through the pin 17 which it is provided, the blocker 5 in the direction of the arrow 33, which has the effect of causing the second pulse pallet 7 to cut the trajectory of the tooth 44 of the small wheel 9 forming the mobile escapement 1 and thus prepare the next rest.

The rocker 2 continues to rotate in the direction of the arrow 31 and the pin 17 is about to exit the fork 16.

The figure 7 shows the escapement of the invention in a state of total rest. By pulling effect caused by the torque exerted on the mobile escapement 1, the pallet 7 rested deeper on the tooth 44 of the small wheel 9 and the tail 24 of the blocker 5 comes to rest on the pin 26. At this moment the pendulum travels its supplementary arc in the direction of the arrow 31 then reverses its direction and turns back path in the direction of the arrow 32. This phase marks the end of the first alternation composing the oscillation under examination.

C'est une phase de début de dégagement du mobile d'échappement 1.The figure 8 shows a blocker 5 in the same situation as that analyzed previously. Here, however, the rocker 1 returning in the direction of the arrow 32, the pin 17 comes into contact with the fork 16 of the blocker 5. It is a start of release phase of the mobile escape 1.

As is apparent in figure 9 , the rocker 2 continued its course in the direction of the arrow 32 and, via the pin 17 and the fork 16, has caused the blocker 5 in the direction of the arrow 34. The tail 24 of the blocker 5 has taken off the pin 26 and the pallet rest 7 has extracted from the grip of the tooth 44 of the small wheel 9. This is a phase of release of the mobile escape 1. Again, we note that turning the rocker 2 has brought the second pulse pallet 4 which it is equipped to cut the path of the tooth 45 of the small wheel 9 component of the mobile escape 1 which thus prepares the next pulse.

In figure 10 the escapement mobile 1 is released and rotates in the direction of the arrow 30 actuated by its gear as mentioned above. The tooth 45 of the small wheel 9 has caught the pulse pallet 4 and then comes into contact with it. This is again a pulse start phase intended to restart the pendulum.

The end of impulse phase is presented in figure 11 . The escapement mobile 1, rotating in the direction of the arrow 30, brought the tooth 45 of its small wheel 9 in the position shown in the figure, that is to say on the point of letting go. It will be observed again that by turning in the direction of the arrow 32, the rocker 2 continued to cause the pin 17 to block the blocker 5 in the direction of the arrow 34, which has the result of bringing the first pallet d pulse 6 to cut the trajectory of the tooth 42 of the small wheel 9 and thus prepare the next rest.

The rocker 2 continues its course in the direction of the arrow 32 and the pin 17 is about to leave the fork 16.

By pulling effect, the pallet 6 rested deeper on the tooth 42 of the small wheel 9 and the tail 24 of the blocker 5 is supported on the limiting pin 25. From this moment, the balance 2 travels its supplementary arc in the direction of the arrow 32 and reverses its direction and turns back path in the direction of the arrow 31. This phase marks the end of the second alternation component oscillation under examination. From this moment a new cycle resumes and we find ourselves in the situation of the beginning, that is to say, that represented in figure 2 .
