Definitions
- the present invention relates, according to a first embodiment, to a detent escapement for a timepiece comprising an escape wheel provided with teeth, a plate secured to a balance wheel, said plate being equipped with a pallet pulse, a rocker-shaped blocker hinged on one axis, the first and second legs of said rocker respectively carrying a pallet rest and a first actuating finger, and an elastic member mounted on the plate and carrying a second finger actuating device capable of driving the first finger when the plate rotates in a first direction to actuate the blocker and to bypass without driving said first finger when the plate rotates in a second direction opposite the first.
- a detent escapement as described above has already been proposed.
- FIG. 402 of George Daniels' book entitled Art de Breguet (London 1975).
- the system described shows a stopwatch escapement pivoted triggering therefore using a rocker-shaped blocker articulated on an axis.
- a branch of the rocker is equipped with a pallet of rest cooperating with the teeth of the escape wheel.
- the other branch cooperates with a spring device mounted on the plate secured to the balance.
- This spring device is a very short blade capable of actuating both the latch when the plate rotates in one direction and to remain without effect on said latch when the plate rotates in the opposite direction.
- FIG. 3524b An expansion escapement comprising a resilient member mounted on the plate, this member actuating in a direction of rotation of the plate a detent capable of disengaging a tooth from the escape wheel is shown in FIG. 3524b of the work of prof. Glaser titled: “Handbuch last Chronometrie und Uhrentechnik” This exhaust proposed by F. Berthoud in 1770 already is intended for a chronometer.
- the device uses a relatively short leaf spring mounted on the plate by means of a kind of bow rotating with it. The end of the blade cooperates with the end of the trigger which is not strictly speaking a rocker but a flexible rod carrying a pallet of rest.
- the object of the present invention is to propose a timepiece of small dimensions, for example a wristwatch, which is equipped with a detent escapement to replace for example the classic anchor escapement and to benefit from the advantages conferred by this exhaust.
- a timepiece of small dimensions for example a wristwatch
- a detent escapement to replace for example the classic anchor escapement and to benefit from the advantages conferred by this exhaust.
- the timepiece of the present invention in addition to meeting the definition of the first paragraph of this description, is remarkable in that, according to claim 1, the elastic member is a spring comprising a plurality of turns wrapped around a center, this elastic member can take, for example, the form of a spiral spring.
- the short spring of the previous exhausts has been replaced by a much longer spring requiring a much lower actuating force from the rocker which is responsible for causing it to bend.
- the present invention also relates, according to a second embodiment, to a detent escapement for a timepiece comprising an escape wheel provided with teeth, a plate integral with a balance wheel, said plate being equipped with a pulse pallet and a first finger, a rocker-shaped blocker articulated on an axis, a first branch of said rocker carrying a pallet of rest, this rocker including an elastic member carrying a second finger actuating device capable of being driven by the first finger when the plate rotates in a first direction to actuate the blocker, and bypass without being driven said first finger when the plate rotates in a second direction opposite to the first.
- This second embodiment differs from the first mode in that the elastic member is no longer disposed on the plate but on the latch-shaped latch.
- the principle remains the same to know to propose a new escapement with relaxation adapted to equip a watch of small dimensions, for example a wristwatch, this new escapement also comprising a elastic member of great length to minimize the effort of actuation requested on the pendulum.
- the timepiece of the present invention in addition to meeting the above definition relating to the second embodiment, is it remarkable that the elastic member comprises, as a first variant, a coil spring and in the second variant a spiral spring according to claims 6 and 13 respectively. Again, it is repeated, so we replaced the short spring of known exhausts by a much longer spring which requires a much lower actuating force from the balance which is responsible for bending.
- the detent escapement comprises an escape wheel 2 provided with teeth 3. Without this being shown, the escape wheel is driven by the gear train of the watch which receives its driving force from the barrel.
- the figures show a plate 4 mounted on the axis of a beam (not shown).
- the plate 4 is equipped with a pallet 5 receiving pulses by the teeth 3 of the wheel 2.
- the system also shows a blocker 6 in the form of a rocker articulated on an axis 8.
- the blocker comprises a first branch 9 carrying a pallet rest 7 and a second leg 10 carrying a first actuating finger 11.
- the rest pallet 7 cooperates with the teeth 3 of the wheel 2.
- An elastic member 22 is mounted on the plate 4.
- This elastic member 12 carries a second finger actuator 14 which is adapted to drive the first finger 11 when the plate 4 rotates in a first direction a to actuate the blocker 6 and to bypass the first finger 11, without driving, when the plate 4 rotates in a second direction b opposite to the first.
- the originality of the present invention lies in the elastic member 12 which will allow to implement on a small watch a detent escapement.
- the elastic member is a spring comprising a plurality of turns 15 wound around a center 16. It is therefore a question here of a spring of great length, extremely flexible and which requires the pendulum which actuates a minimum effort.
- This spring can take many forms. It will preferably be chosen a blade wound on itself around a fixed point and held in a plane, such as a spiral spring 12, this winding may however be of another shape, a square or a rectangle for example.
- the spiral spring 12 shown in Figures 1 to 11 is mounted coaxially to an axis 16 which carries the plate 4 and the balance (not shown).
- the inner end 17 of the spiral spring 12 is fixed to the axis 16 which carries the plate 4.
- the outer end 13 of the spiral spring 12 carries the second actuating finger 14 which has been discussed above, this second finger emerging in the environment of said outer end.
- FIGS. 1 to 11 also show that the outer end 13 of the spiral spring 12 and the plate 4 comprise retaining means implemented to limit the fretting of the second finger 14 and to keep the spiral spring 12 within limits allowing drive, respectively bypassing the first finger 11 carried by the blocker 6. These retaining means will now be described.
- the plate 4 carries a first pin 19 around which is engaged with clearance an opening 18 formed in the outer end 13 of the spiral spring 12.
- the plate 4 also carries a second pin 20 against which can come to rest a tongue 21 terminating the outer end 13 of the spiral spring 12 said outer end 13 in the order and towards its end opening 18, the second finger 14 and the tongue 21.
- the end of the pulse is shown in Figure 7.
- the tooth 61 is about to leave the pallet 5 and the blocker is returning to its rest position, the pallet rest 7 being introduced into the space between the teeth 60 and 62.
- the return of the blocker 6 to its rest position is achieved by means which are not shown in the drawing. It could be a simple leaf spring or spiral spring as described for example in the book by Huguenin, Guye and Gauchat entitled “Exhausts and Stepper Motors in Figure 17-4.”
- the situation in Figure 7 also shows that the spiral spring 12 has relaxed, the pin 19 no longer pressing against the left bottom of the opening18.
- Figure 8 shows the pallet 7 coming into contact with the tooth 62 of the wheel 2 which is stopped.
- the plateau 4 continues its course in the direction of the arrow a and begins to travel its free additional arc until the completion of the first alternation.
- the reverse supplementary arc is nearing completion as shown in Figure 9.
- the plate rotates in the direction of the arrow b and is near the end of the second half cycle.
- the blocker 6 is in resting position recalled that it is by a spring not illustrated reminder but which has been discussed about Figure 7.
- the pallet rest 7 rests at the bottom of the tooth.
- the branch 10 of the blocker rests against a locking pin 63.
- the plate 4 has brought the second actuating finger 14 of the spiral spring 12 to pass over the first finger 11 of the blocker 6 and thus to bypass it, as can be seen in FIG. 10
- This climbing is made possible by the configuration of the fingers 11 and 14 respectively showing humps 64 and 65 (see particularly Figure 1).
- the spiral spring 12 has slightly crushed towards the top of FIG. 10 and it can be seen that the pin 19 touches the bottom of the opening 18.
- Figure 11 shows the plateau position 4 just before the end of the second alternation, almost in neutral.
- the plate 4 will reverse its direction and the second finger 14 of the spiral spring 12 will be able to drive again the first finger 11 of the blocker 6. A new cycle can then begin that leads to Figure 4.
- FIGS. 12 to 15 The second embodiment of the invention produced according to a first variant, is illustrated in FIGS. 12 to 15.
- the detent escapement comprises an escape wheel 2 provided with teeth 3.
- the escape wheel 2 is driven by the cogwheel of the watch which receives from the barrel its driving force.
- Figures 12 to 15 show a plate 4 mounted on the axis of a pendulum not shown.
- the plate 4 is equipped with a pallet 5 receiving pulses by the teeth 3 of the wheel 2.
- This plate still carries a first finger 30.
- the exhaust further comprises a blocker 6 in the form of a rocker articulated on an axis 8.
- This blocker comprises a first branch 9 carrying a pallet 7 cooperating with the teeth 3 of the wheel 2.
- the rocker or blocker 6 comprises a resilient member 32.
- This elastic member 32 carries a second actuating finger 31 which is arranged so that to be driven by the first finger 30 when the plate 4 rotates in a first direction a to actuate the blocker 6, and so as to bypass, without being driven, the first finger 30 when the plate 4 rotates in a second direction b opposite the first.
- this second embodiment differs from the first mode in that the elastic member is no longer placed on the plate but on the rocker-shaped blocker, the originality of the invention residing in the elastic member for equipping a small watch, for example a wristwatch, with a detent escapement.
- the elastic member is a coil-shaped spring 32. It is therefore again question here of a spring of great length, very flexible and which requires the pendulum which actuates a minimum of effort.
- serpentine spring is meant a sinuous spring, corrugated and folded several times on itself and which can take the form shown in the drawing but also different from it.
- the coil spring 32 is attached to the second leg 10 that the blocker 6 comprises.
- the first end 33 of this spring is fixed to the axis 8 of articulation of the blocker 6.
- the second end 34 of this spring emerges the second actuating finger 31.
- FIGS. 12 to 14 show that the second end 34 of the coil spring 32 and the second leg 10 of the blocker 6 comprise retaining means adapted to limit the fretting of said second finger 31 and to maintain the coil spring 32 within limits allowing the second finger 31 to be driven by, respectively to bypass the first finger 30 carried by the plate 4.
- retaining means may be envisaged, for example those which will now be described by way of example.
- Figures 12 to 14 show that the second leg 10 of the blocker 6 carries first and second pins 35 and 36.
- the second end 34 of the coil spring 32 has in the order and in the direction of the escape wheel 2 a first notch 37 in which is engaged the first pin 35, the second actuating finger 31, and a second notch 38 in which is engaged the second pin 36.
- the coil spring 32 described above is an insert added to the second leg 10 of the blocker 6. However, this spring could be part of the blocker without being added thereafter.
- Figure 15 shows a blocker or latch 6 made differently. In this embodiment, the coil spring is made in one piece with the second leg 10 of the blocker 6. In particular, the figure shows that the first end 39 of the coil spring originates in the material of which the second leg 10 of the blocker 6 is made and that the second actuating finger emerges from the environment of the second end 34 of the coil spring 32.
- FIG. 15 shows that the second end 34 of the coil spring 32 and the second leg 10 of the blocker 6 comprise retaining means. 28 also shows that the second leg 10 of the blocker 6 is formed of first and second arms 40 and 41 between which said spring is located.
- the retaining means comprise first and second spouts 42 and 43 which respectively extend said first and second arms 40 and 41.
- the end 34 of the coil spring 32 comprises, in the order and in the direction of the escape wheel, a first cut 45 in which is engaged the second spout 43, the second finger 31 and a second cut 444 in which is engaged the first spout 42.
- This blocker 6 is one piece with the coil spring 32 and the retaining means 42, 44; 43, 45 limiting the fretting of the second actuating finger 31 opens interesting manufacturing prospects using for example galvanic growth methods, chemical or physical etching or injection.
- FIG. 16 The drawing is limited to the blocker or rocker 6, the other components of the exhaust being similar to those shown in FIGS. 12 to 14.
- the expansion escapement partially illustrated in FIG. 16 differs from that illustrated in FIGS. 12 to 14 in that the elastic member 50 is a spiral spring 51.
- the spiral spring 51 can be mounted in different ways on the blocker or rocker 6. One way of doing is shown in Figure 16.
- the spiral spring 51 is mounted coaxially with the axis 8 on which is articulated the blocker 6
- the inner end 58 of the spiral spring 51 is fixed to the hinge axis 8.
- the second actuating finger 31 emerges in the environment of the second end 52 of the spiral spring 51.
- the second end 52 of the spiral spring 51 and the second leg 10 which is provided with the blocker 6 comprise retaining means adapted to limit the state of the second finger 31 and to maintain the spiral spring within limits allowing the second actuating finger 31 to be driven by, respectively to bypass the first finger (30) carried by the plate 4.
- these retaining means comprise first and second pins 53 and 54 carried by the second leg 10 of the blocker 6, these first and second pins being engaged respectively in first and second notches 55 and 56 which bear the second end 52 of the spiral spring 51.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates, according to a first embodiment, to a detent escapement for a timepiece comprising an escape wheel provided with teeth, a plate secured to a balance wheel, said plate being equipped with a pallet pulse, a rocker-shaped blocker hinged on one axis, the first and second legs of said rocker respectively carrying a pallet rest and a first actuating finger, and an elastic member mounted on the plate and carrying a second finger actuating device capable of driving the first finger when the plate rotates in a first direction to actuate the blocker and to bypass without driving said first finger when the plate rotates in a second direction opposite the first.
A detent escapement as described above has already been proposed. There is a pictorial representation in figure 402 of George Daniels' book entitled Art de Breguet (London 1975). The system described shows a stopwatch escapement pivoted triggering therefore using a rocker-shaped blocker articulated on an axis. A branch of the rocker is equipped with a pallet of rest cooperating with the teeth of the escape wheel. The other branch cooperates with a spring device mounted on the plate secured to the balance. This spring device is a very short blade capable of actuating both the latch when the plate rotates in one direction and to remain without effect on said latch when the plate rotates in the opposite direction. We thus find there the principle of any escapement with expansion in which the impulse with the balance is given only once by oscillation during which the escape wheel turns of an angular step while, in the escapement with anchor said wheel advances by half a step at each alternation. Here, one of the advantages of the detent escapement is measured since the energy lost as a result of the inertia of the escape wheel only occurs once per oscillation instead of once alternately.
An expansion escapement comprising a resilient member mounted on the plate, this member actuating in a direction of rotation of the plate a detent capable of disengaging a tooth from the escape wheel is shown in FIG. 3524b of the work of prof. Glaser titled: "Handbuch last Chronometrie und Uhrentechnik" This exhaust proposed by F. Berthoud in 1770 already is intended for a chronometer. The device uses a relatively short leaf spring mounted on the plate by means of a kind of bow rotating with it. The end of the blade cooperates with the end of the trigger which is not strictly speaking a rocker but a flexible rod carrying a pallet of rest.
Of the two embodiments that have just been briefly described above, a construction suitable for large timepieces, such as chronometers or marine chronometers, will be retained. These parts are appreciated for their great precision, which is why it is very often called a relaxation exhaust itself renowned for its high accuracy. The large size of the parts in question makes it possible to have large balances with a large energy reserve and a strong torque. This thus makes it possible to overcome the significant force presented by the leaf springs of the prior art cited above and in general conventional constructions using a gold spring. In the detent escapement it is known that at a first alternation it is necessary to tension the spring to release the pallet of rest and that at a second alternation it is necessary to relax the same spring to cause it to bypass the trigger which is not then not operated.
The object of the present invention is to propose a timepiece of small dimensions, for example a wristwatch, which is equipped with a detent escapement to replace for example the classic anchor escapement and to benefit from the advantages conferred by this exhaust. However, it will be understood that using the prior art techniques known and described above would lead to a failure since the energy developed by the pendulum of a wristwatch is much lower than that developed by a watch, this pendulum thus showing itself incapable of defeat the forces acting on the trigger.
Thus, the timepiece of the present invention, in addition to meeting the definition of the first paragraph of this description, is remarkable in that, according to claim 1, the elastic member is a spring comprising a plurality of turns wrapped around a center, this elastic member can take, for example, the form of a spiral spring. Thus, in the expansion escapement of the invention, the short spring of the previous exhausts has been replaced by a much longer spring requiring a much lower actuating force from the rocker which is responsible for causing it to bend.
The present invention also relates, according to a second embodiment, to a detent escapement for a timepiece comprising an escape wheel provided with teeth, a plate integral with a balance wheel, said plate being equipped with a pulse pallet and a first finger, a rocker-shaped blocker articulated on an axis, a first branch of said rocker carrying a pallet of rest, this rocker including an elastic member carrying a second finger actuating device capable of being driven by the first finger when the plate rotates in a first direction to actuate the blocker, and bypass without being driven said first finger when the plate rotates in a second direction opposite to the first.
This second embodiment differs from the first mode in that the elastic member is no longer disposed on the plate but on the latch-shaped latch. For the rest the principle remains the same to know to propose a new escapement with relaxation adapted to equip a watch of small dimensions, for example a wristwatch, this new escapement also comprising a elastic member of great length to minimize the effort of actuation requested on the pendulum.
Thus, the timepiece of the present invention, in addition to meeting the above definition relating to the second embodiment, is it remarkable that the elastic member comprises, as a first variant, a coil spring and in the second variant a spiral spring according to

The first embodiment of the invention is illustrated in Figures 1 to 11. The detent escapement comprises an
As has already been mentioned above, the originality of the present invention lies in the
The
Ces moyens de retenue vont être décrits maintenant.FIGS. 1 to 11 also show that the
We will now describe in detail the operation of the detent escapement with the help of Figures 4 to 11 which illustrate different phases of this operation.
In Figure 4, the
La seconde goupille 20 prévient cette rotation puisque la languette 21 qui termine le ressort spiral 12 vient s'appuyer précisément contre cette seconde goupille 20.Continuing its course in the direction of the arrow to the second finger 14 (Figure 5) drives the
As seen in Figure 6, the
The
Figure 8 shows the
La branche 10 du bloqueur repose contre une goupille d'arrêt 63.The reverse supplementary arc is nearing completion as shown in Figure 9. The plate rotates in the direction of the arrow b and is near the end of the second half cycle. The
The second embodiment of the invention produced according to a first variant, is illustrated in FIGS. 12 to 15. The detent escapement comprises an
As has already been pointed out above, this second embodiment differs from the first mode in that the elastic member is no longer placed on the plate but on the rocker-shaped blocker, the originality of the invention residing in the elastic member for equipping a small watch, for example a wristwatch, with a detent escapement. This is possible if the elastic member is a coil-shaped
The same figures 12 to 14 show that the
The expansion escapement which has just been described according to its second embodiment operates in the same way as that which has been explained with reference to FIGS. 4 to 11 relating to the first embodiment. So it's not worth going back here.
As has been said about the coil spring attached to the blocker (FIGS. 12 to 14), FIG. 15 shows that the
This
We will end this description by exposing a second variant of the second embodiment. This embodiment is shown in FIG. 16. The drawing is limited to the blocker or
The expansion escapement partially illustrated in FIG. 16 differs from that illustrated in FIGS. 12 to 14 in that the
In a similar manner to that described above, the
As shown in Figure 16, these retaining means comprise first and
Finally, it will be noted that all the embodiments described above are examples of embodiments from which it is possible to deviate, the essential being that a spring of great length is used. Another variant could be to equip the
