- Piston compressors also generate heat which is dissipated to the outside. Otherwise, a piston compressor in continuous operation would heat up so much that its components - in particular seals - can take damage. If it is not possible to use an air-cooled reciprocating compressor due to structural constraints, a water-cooled reciprocating compressor of interest here is required. In a water-cooled piston compressor, the area of the piston-cylinder pairings is cooled by a coolant circuit known per se. Water-cooled reciprocating compressors of the type of interest here can be driven via a crank drive, a swash plate drive or the like.
- DE 103 08 430 A1 discloses a water-cooled reciprocating compressor with a swashplate drive. Two piston-cylinder pairs are driven by a swashplate engine.
- the swashplate engine converts an input-side rotary motion into an oscillating linear motion for the pistons within the cylinders so that air from the environment can be compressed into compressed air via interaction with intake and exhaust valves.
- a chamber is provided in the cylinder region in this known reciprocating compressor, which is flowed through by the coolant.
- the chamber is formed by cylinder liners and a cylinder housing surrounding these cylinder liners.
- the cylinder liners are each pot-shaped, so that the coolant acts in the region of the shell and end face of the cylinder.
