That is, both the total weight W2 on the car 4 side and the weight W1 of the counterweight 5 can be prevented from being directly applied to the driving sheave 8, and the 1:1 roping method is adopted as to the main ropes 17, so the rotational speed of the driving sheave 8 can be reduced. Accordingly, the drive device 6 can be reduced in size, and the space of the hoistway 1 can be reduced. Further, a noise resulting from rotation of the driving sheave 8 can also be abated.
- the respective car suspending pulleys 11 and 12 are disposed symmetrically with respect to the center point of the line segment connecting the respective car guide rails 2 to each other on the vertical projection plane of the hoistway 1. Each of themain ropes 17, which extends from thefirst rope end 17a to thesecond rope end 17b, is sequentially wound around the first counterweightside return pulley 15, the drivingsheave 8, the first carside return pulley 11, the one of thecar suspending pulleys 9, the othercar suspending pulley 10, the second carside return pulley 12, and the second counterweightside return pulley 16. That is, as for the respectivemain ropes 17, there is adopted a 1:1 roping method in which the moving distance of each of themain ropes 17 is equal to the moving distance of thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5. - Each of the
main ropes 17 is manufactured by twisting a plurality of copper wires. Each of these wires has a wire diameter smaller than a normal wire diameter. Thus, the respectivemain ropes 17 are increased in flexibility. The respectivemain ropes 17 may also be designed as synthetic fiber ropes to achieve further enhancement of flexibility. - Next, an operation will be described. When the driving
sheave 8 is rotated by thedrive device body 7, the respectivemain ropes 17 are moved in accordance with rotation of the drivingsheave 8 . Thus, thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5 are raised/lowered within thehoistway 1 while being guided by the respectivecar guide rails 2 and the respectivecounterweight guide rails 3 respectively. - Next, an axial load applied to the driving
sheave 8 will be described. Thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5 are suspended by themain ropes 17. Therefore, a first rope tension T1 is applied to portions of themain ropes 17 which are located on thefirst rope end 17a side with respect to the drivingsheave 8, and a second rope tension T2 is applied to portions of themain ropes 17 which are located on thesecond rope end 17b side with respect to the drivingsheave 8. -
-
- A total weight W2 on the
car 4 side (i.e. , an added weight of a car weight Wa of thecar 4 itself and a laden weight Wb of an onboard object within the car 4) is balanced with the sum of the second rope tension T2 on the one of thecar suspending pulleys 9 side and the second rope tension T2 on the othercar suspending pulley 10 side. Therefore, the second rope tension T2 is expressed by the following equation. -
- As is apparent from the equations (3) and (4), the magnitudes of the first rope tension T1 and the second rope tension T2 may be different from each other. Accordingly, the larger the clearance between the first counterweight
rope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 becomes, the larger the offset load applied to thecounterweight 5 becomes, and the larger the reactive force applied to each of thecounterweight guide rails 3 becomes. Thus, when there is a certain clearance between the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14, the level of a noise resulting from contact of thecounterweight 5 with the respectivecounterweight guide rails 3 may be increased, or the life of thecounterweight guide rails 3 may be shortened due to abrasion. - Accordingly, the clearance between the first counterweight
rope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 is set within a predetermined range where an adverse effect resulting from an offset load applied to thecounterweight 5, for example, a noise, abrasion of thecounterweight guide rails 3, or the like can be permitted. In this example, the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 are disposed on thecounterweight 5 in close proximity to the vertical line extending past the center of gravity of thecounterweight 5. - In the elevator apparatus constructed as described above, the
drive device 6 is horizontally provided in the upper portion within thehoistway 1, and each of themain ropes 17 for suspending thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5 within thehoistway 1, which extends from thefirst rope end 17a connected to thecounterweight 5 to thesecond rope end 17b connected to thecounterweight 5, is sequentially wound around the first counterweight side returnpulley 15, the drivingsheave 8 of thedrive device 6, the first car side returnpulley 11, the one of thecar suspending pulleys 9, the othercar suspending pulley 10, the second car side returnpulley 12, and the second counterweight side returnpulley 16. Therefore, the axial load applied to the drivingsheave 8 can be made equal to the weight of thecounterweight 5, and the moving distance of themain ropes 17 can be made directly equal to the moving distance of thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5. That is, both the total weight W2 on thecar 4 side and the weight W1 of thecounterweight 5 can be prevented from being directly applied to the drivingsheave 8, and the 1:1 roping method is adopted as to themain ropes 17, so the rotational speed of the drivingsheave 8 can be reduced. Accordingly, thedrive device 6 can be reduced in size, and the space of thehoistway 1 can be reduced. Further, a noise resulting from rotation of the drivingsheave 8 can also be abated. - The respective
11 and 12 are disposed symmetrically with respect to the center point of the line segment connecting the respectivecar suspending pulleys car guide rails 2 to each other on the vertical projection plane of thehoistway 1. Therefore, thecar 4 can be stably suspended by themain ropes 17. - The first counterweight
rope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 are disposed symmetrically with respect to the vertical line extending past the center of gravity of thecounterweight 5, and the clearance between the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 is set within the predetermined range. Therefore, the magnitude of an offset load applied to thecounterweight 5 can be set within a permissible range. Thus, a noise resulting from, for example, contact of thecounterweight 5 on thecounterweight guide rails 3 can be abated, and the life of thecounterweight guide rails 3 can be restrained from being shortened due to abrasion. - The
drive device 6 is designed as a low-profile hoisting machine having a dimension in an axial direction which is smaller than a dimension in a radial direction, so the dimension of thehoistway 1 in a height direction thereof can further be reduced. - In the foregoing example, the
9 and 10 are provided on the lower portion of thecar suspending pulleys car 4. However, the 9 and 10 may also be provided on an upper portion of thecar suspending pulleys car 4. In this manner as well, thecar 4 can be suspended within thehoistway 1 by themain ropes 17. - In the foregoing example, the present invention is applied to an elevator apparatus of a counterweight-falling-sidewise type in which the
counterweight 5 is disposed beside thecar 4. However, as shown in Fig. 3, the present invention may also be applied to an elevator apparatus of counterweight-falling-behind type in which thecounterweight 5 is disposed behind thecar 4. In this case, the line connecting the respectivecar guide rails 2 to each other is parallel to the line connecting the respectivecounterweight guide rails 3 to each other on the vertical projection plane of thehoistway 1. - Fig. 4 is a lateral view showing an elevator apparatus according to
Embodiment 2 of the present invention. Referring to Fig. 4, a first carrope connecting portion 21 and a second carrope connecting portion 22 are provided on the lower portion of thecar 4 on both sides thereof. The first carrope connecting portion 21 and the second carrope connecting portion 22 are disposed symmetrically with respect to the line segment connecting the respectivecar guide rails 2 to each other on the vertical projection plane of thehoistway 1. The first car side returnpulley 11 is disposed above the first carrope connecting portion 21. The second car side returnpulley 12 is disposed above the second carrope connecting portion 22. - A
counterweight suspending pulley 23 is provided on the upper portion of thecounterweight 5. The first counterweight side returnpulley 15 and the second counterweight side returnpulley 16 are disposed above thecounterweight suspending pulley 23. - The
car 4 and thecounterweight 5 are suspended within thehoistway 1 by the respectivemain ropes 17. Each of themain ropes 17 has thefirst rope end 17a connected to the first carrope connecting portion 21, and thesecond rope end 17b connected to the second carrope connecting portion 22. Each of themain ropes 17, which extends from thefirst rope end 17a to thesecond rope end 17b, is sequentially wound around the first car side returnpulley 11, the drivingsheave 8, the first counterweight side returnpulley 15, thecounterweight suspending pulley 23, the second counterweight side returnpulley 16, and the second car side returnpulley 12.Embodiment 2 of the present invention is identical toEmbodiment 1 of the present invention in other constructional details and other operational details. - Next, the axial load applied to the driving
sheave 8 will be described. A first rope tension T3 is applied to portions of themain ropes 17 which are located on thefirst rope end 17b side with respect to the drivingsheave 8, and a second rope tension T4 is applied to portions of themain ropes 17 which are located on thesecond rope end 17a side with respect to the drivingsheave 8. -

-
- As described above, the first car
rope connecting portion 21 and the second carrope connecting portion 22 are provided on thecar 4, and thecounterweight suspending pulley 23 is provided on thecounterweight 5, and each of themain ropes 17 for suspending thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5, which extends from thefirst rope end 17a connected to the first carrope connecting portion 21 to thesecond rope end 17b connected to the second carrope connecting portion 22, is sequentially wound around the first car side returnpulley 11, the drivingsheave 8, the first counterweight side returnpulley 15, thecounterweight suspending pulley 23, the second counterweight side returnpulley 16, and the second car side returnpulley 12. Therefore, as is the case withEmbodiment 1 of the present invention, both the total weight W2 on thecar 4 side and the weight W1 of thecounterweight 5 can be prevented from being directly applied to the drivingsheave 8, and the 1:1 roping method is adopted as to themain ropes 17, so the rotational speed of the drivingsheave 8 can be lowered. Thus, the axial load applied to thedrive device 6 can be reduced, and a noise can be abated. - The first
rope connecting portion 21 and the secondrope connecting portion 22 are disposed symmetrically with respect to the center point of the line segment connecting the respectivecar guide rails 2 to each other on the vertical projection plane of thehoistway 1. Therefore, thecar 4 can be stably suspended by themain ropes 17. - Fig. 5 is a lateral view showing an elevator apparatus according to
Embodiment 3 of the present invention. Referring to Fig. 5, the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14, which are disposed side by side in the width direction of thecounterweight 5, are provided on the upper portion of thecounterweight 5. Thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5 are suspended within thehoistway 1 by amain rope body 31 having a firstmain rope 32 and a secondmain rope 33. - The first
main rope 32 has afirst rope end 32a connected to the first carrope connecting portion 21, and asecond rope end 32b connected to the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13. The firstmain rope 32, which extends from thefirst rope end 32a to thesecond rope end 32b, is sequentially wound around the first car side returnpulley 11, the drivingsheave 8, and the first counterweight side returnpulley 15. - The second
main rope 33 has athird rope end 33a connected to the second carrope connecting portion 22, and afourth rope end 33b connected to the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14. The secondmain rope 33, which extends from thethird rope end 33a to thefourth rope end 33b, is sequentially wound around the second car side returnpulley 12 and the second counterweight side returnpulley 16. That is, the secondmain rope 33 is wound around the second car side returnpulley 12 and the second counterweight side returnpulley 16 while bypassing the drivingsheave 8.Embodiment 3 of the present invention is identical toEmbodiment 2 of the present invention in other constructional details. - The
main rope body 31 suspends thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5 such that the sum of the weight W1 of thecounterweight 5 and the total weight W2 on thecar 4 side is distributed to the firstmain rope 32 and the secondmain rope 33. The axial load applied to the drivingsheave 8 results only from a tension in the firstmain rope 32. That is, the axial load applied to the drivingsheave 8 is equal to that part of the sum of the weight W1 of thecounterweight 5 and the total weight W2 on thecar 4 side which is borne by the firstmain rope 32. - As described above, the first car
rope connecting portion 21 and the second carrope connecting portion 22 are provided on thecar 4, and the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 are provided on thecounterweight 5. Also, themain rope body 31 for suspending thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5 has the firstmain rope 32, which is wound around the drivingsheave 8 and connected to the first carrope connecting portion 21 and the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13, and the secondmain rope 33, which is connected to the second carrope connecting portion 22 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 while bypassing the drivingsheave 8. Therefore, thecar 4 and thecounterweight 5 can be suspended by the firstmain rope 32 and the secondmain rope 33 in a distributed manner, so both the total weight W2 on thecar 4 side and the weight W1 of thecounterweight 5 can be prevented from being directly applied to the drivingsheave 8. The 1:1 roping method is adopted as to themain ropes 17, so the rotational speed of the drivingsheave 8 can be reduced. Thus, the axial load applied to thedrive device 6 can be reduced, and a noise can be abated. - In
1 and 2 of the present invention, the present invention is applied to the elevator apparatus of counterweight-falling-sidewise type in which theEmbodiments counterweight 5 is disposed beside thecar 4. However, the present invention is also applicable to an elevator apparatus of counterweight-falling-behind type in which thecounterweight 5 is disposed behind thecar 4. - In
1 and 3 of the present invention, the first counterweightEmbodiments rope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 are disposed side by side in the width direction of thecounterweight 5. However, the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 may be disposed side by side in a thickness direction of thecounterweight 5. In this case, the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 are disposed symmetrically with respect to the vertical line extending past the center of gravity of thecounterweight 5. The clearance between the first counterweightrope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 is set within a predetermined range. In this manner as well, the magnitude of an offset load applied to thecounterweight 5 can be confined within a permissible range. - In
1 and 3 of the present invention, the first counterweightEmbodiments rope connecting portion 13 and the second counterweightrope connecting portion 14 are disposed side by side in the width direction of thecounterweight 5. However, it is also appropriate that a plurality of (an even number of) first counterweightrope connecting portions 13 are disposed symmetrically with respect to the vertical line extending past the center of gravity of thecounterweight 5, and that a plurality of (an even number of) second counterweightrope connecting portions 14 are disposed symmetrically with respect to the vertical line extending past the center of gravity of thecounterweight 5. In this manner, the occurrence of an offset load applied to thecounterweight 5 can be prevented even when the first rope tension T1 and the second rope tension T2 are different in magnitude from each other.
