Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a mechanical watch comprising a box inside which is housed a watch movement comprising mechanical energy storage means and winding means.
  • the latter provide mechanical energy to the accumulation means and comprise a rod accessible from the outside through an opening of the box.
  • the present invention relates to a watch pocket watch type whose mechanical energy storage means are implemented in the form of a barrel spring, the winding rod being connected to the mainspring spring directly or via mechanical wheels.
  • Watches of this type have been known for several centuries now.
  • the winding stem was generally accessible through an opening in the dial of the watch to reassemble the movement.
  • the dial was typically protected by a cover so as not to damage the needles or obstruct their operation when the watch was placed in the pocket of its user.
  • the inside of the watch case being able to communicate with the outside environment through the opening intended to carry out the reassembly, the movement was also protected by this same cover.
  • watch movements have been adapted to arrange the opening in another region of the watch case than the dial, namely at the back of the box.
  • An object of the present invention is to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art by proposing a mechanical timepiece complying with the old standards of construction while ensuring maximum protection of the watch movement relative to the external environment.
  • the present invention relates to a watch of the type indicated above having a rod adapted to be driven by means of a winding key characterized in that it comprises a movable element able to move between two extreme positions, elastic means being arranged inside the box so as to keep the movable element in a first rest position. In this position, the movable element cooperates with the box to at least partially obstruct the opening.
  • the second of the extreme positions of the movable element is a winding position in which at least the distal end of the rod is released to a sufficient extent to perform the reassembly of the accumulation means.
  • the movable member is arranged to be driven to its winding position by the pressure exerted by the winding key against the movable member.
  • the movable member is arranged to move along the rod, guiding means being provided.
  • the guiding means may be integral with the watch case and, in particular, made in the form of a sleeve concentric with the opening and extending from the box into the region of the watch movement.
  • the movable member may be in the form of a ring threaded around the shank and having a central hole whose section on the outside side is smaller than the section of the opening of the box. to ensure the obstruction.
  • the opening through which the winding rod is accessible from outside the watch case has reduced dimensions compared to the watches of the prior art.
  • the ring mounted on elastic means preferably a helical spring, acts as a piston around the winding rod.
  • the ring In the position of rest or relaxed spring, the ring is in the region of the opening and partially closes the latter.
  • the end of the key exerts pressure on the ring and tends to compress the spring to lower the ring along the sleeve. From a certain compression stage of the spring, the key is sufficiently engaged with the winding rod to be rotated and reload the mainspring of the watch.
  • the ring has a first portion of generally cylindrical shape, located on the outside and of substantially circular section with a diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the opening.
  • the first portion is followed by a second portion of generally cylindrical shape and of substantially circular section with a diameter greater than the diameter of the opening.
  • the length of the first portion is less than or equal to, preferably equal to, the thickness of the box in the region of the opening. Because of this structure, the distal portion of the ring, i.e., the one on the outside, is flush with the box when the spring is in its relaxed position to enhance the aesthetic appearance. of the watch.
  • the axial guidance of the ring relative to the sleeve is effected by means of an annular seal disposed inside the ring. an annular groove formed in the casing of the second portion of the ring.
  • the figure 1 schematically represents an example of a preferred embodiment of a mechanical timepiece 1, or pocket watch, according to the present invention.
  • the watch 1 is represented by its rear face 2, in other words on the side of its bottom 3, the front face being neither shown nor described in detail insofar as it does not directly concern the heart of the present invention.
  • the box of the watch 1 is provided with a pendant 4, of conventional type in the field of pocket watches, which is secured to a ring 5.
  • a region of the rear face of the watch 1 has an opening 6 in which one end of a winding rod 7, of square section, is apparent and accessible from the outside of the box. As is apparent from Figures 2a and 2b , the distal end of the rod 7 is at the level of the opening 6.
  • an element 8 whose outer face 9 has the shape of a disc comprising a hole 10 centered and substantially circular, is arranged between the edge of the opening 6 and the rod 7. It is also apparent from this figure that the presence of this element 8 makes it possible to reduce the dimensions of the passage existing between the outside and the inside of the watch case 1.
  • the hole 10 has a diameter slightly greater than the length of a diagonal of the rod 7 of so that it is free to rotate relative to the element 8.
  • a watch of the type represented is generally intended for the high-end market.
  • the constituent elements of the box namely the bottom 3 and the middle, as well as the movable member 8 which has an apparent portion from the outside of the box, are typically metallic, preferably gold.
  • Element 8 forms an integral part of a protection device for the pocket watch winding mechanism according to this preferred embodiment of the present invention.
  • the other constituents of this protective device will now be described in more detail, in connection with the detailed description of the Figures 2a and 2b .
  • the figure 2a represents a partial view in simplified section along the line II-II of the figure 1 of the watch 1 when the movable member 8 is in a first extreme position, rest, in which it provides protection of the inside of the watch case.
  • the figure 2b represents a view similar to that of the figure 2a , in which the movable member 8 is in a second extreme position, reassembly, releasing access to the end of the stem 7 winding.
  • the watch 1 comprises a box, formed in particular of the bottom 3, of a middle part 20 and of a bezel 21, and closed by a window 22.
  • the watch case contains a watch movement, also of conventional type , represented on the Figures 2a and 2b schematically and delimited on the one hand by a plate 23 and on the other hand by gear wheels 24.
  • the watch movement is surmounted by a dial 25 above which there are hour indication hands (not shown).
  • the diameter internal of the sleeve is slightly greater than the diameter of the opening 6, the bottom 3 of the box thus forming a shoulder 27 at the opening 6.
  • the movable element 8 has the shape of a ring having a first cylindrical portion 28 located on the outside of the watch 1 and of length substantially equal to the thickness of the bottom 3 of the box.
  • the diameter of the first portion 28 is slightly smaller than the diameter of the opening 6 so that, in the first position of the ring 8, or rest position, the first portion 28 is intermeshed inside the opening 6.
  • first portion 28 is followed by a second cylindrical portion 29, of greater diameter than that of the first portion and that of the opening 6.
  • the hole 10 ends with a recess 30 before being extended by a second hole 31 of diameter greater than that of the hole 10.
  • annular groove 32 is formed in the side wall of the second portion 29 to serve as a housing for an O-ring type annular seal 33.
  • a coil spring 34 is threaded around the winding stem 7 and extends between the gear wheels 24 and the ring 8.
  • the spring 34 has an outside diameter substantially greater than the diameter of the second hole 31.
  • the ring 8 acts in the manner of a piston within the sleeve 26 which performs the function of the corresponding cylinder.
  • annular seal 33 at the level of the second portion 29 prevents friction between metal parts of the watch, that is to say between the ring and the sleeve, during the movement. translation of the ring. Furthermore, the sliding of the annular seal inside the bushing provides a softer feel to the user who exerts pressure on the ring 8.
  • the ring 8 is thus able to move into a second extreme position, or winding position, located in the region of the axles 24 and, corresponding to the maximum compression of the spring 34. It can be provided, alternatively, that the second extreme position of the ring 8 is defined by a shoulder formed inside the sleeve 26 or that it corresponds to a position in abutment of the ring directly against the axles of the gear train 24.
  • the spring 34 relaxes and pushes the ring 8 towards the outside of the box to its first rest position. In this position, the second portion 29 of the ring is disposed in abutment against the shoulder 27 of the box, the outer face 9 of the ring being flush with the rear face 2 of the watch case.
  • the winding stem 7 is rotated with a winding key (not shown).
  • the distal end of the stem that is to say the furthest end of the movement, is used as the a plug with which the winding key, carrying a hole constituting a complementary socket, is intended to cooperate.
  • the end of the rod 7 is not accessible.
  • the winding key must then be placed in abutment against the outer face 9 of the ring in order to exert on the latter a pressure and move it towards the watch movement.
  • the end of the rod 7 is inserted inside the hole of the key, in a conventional manner, at least until the catch is sufficient to drive the rod in rotation with the key.
  • the ring 8 is disposed in its first position, that is to say at the opening 6 of the box.
  • the opening 6, whose diameter is necessary to allow the insertion of the winding key, is partially obstructed by the ring 8. Thanks to this, the risk of various dust or dirt penetrating the inside of the box at the risk of damaging the movement is limited.
  • the ring because of its operation similar to the operation of a piston, the ring can easily be pushed towards the inside of the watch box with the help of the key to reassemble.
  • annular seal 33 also makes it possible to block access to the inside of the box via the region situated between the ring 8 and the bushing 26.
  • the hole 10 is square with dimensions slightly greater than the dimensions of the stem 7 winding, which further limits the risk of dust penetration inside the box.
  • the ring also operates in the manner of a piston, being able to be pushed towards the watch movement to release at least the end of the rod 7 before proceeding to reassemble the watch.
  • the essential difference from the point of view of the winding operation occurs when the rod is rotated with a winding key. Due to the respective dimensions of the square hole according to the present alternative embodiment and the rod, any rotation of the rod also causes a rotational movement of the ring 8. This has the consequence that the user must exert a torque on the key slightly higher than that required in the first embodiment described above.
  • annular seal 33 it is preferable to choose a material, for the annular seal 33, such that the friction occurring during the sliding of the seal against the inside of the sleeve is minimal.
  • conventional materials based on rubber or silicone will be selected.
  • the sleeve 26 has a diameter similar to the diameter of the opening 6, additional means then being necessary to retain the ring 8 in its rest position, replacing the shoulder 27.
  • the sleeve is not arranged in the box, which of course gives rise to a significantly less effective protection but which can still be revealed sufficient depending on the case.
  • the loss of efficiency is less sensitive in this case when the hole of the movable ring has a square section with dimensions adjusted to the dimensions of the winding stem.
  • the socket it can be realized in different alternative ways. This may, for example, be made integral with the axles of gear instead of the box, or may be implemented in the form of simple guide rods disposed on either side of the winding stem.
  • the ring is thus provided with holes adapted to the guide rods and disposed on either side of the central hole being parallel to the latter.
