Definitions
- the invention relates to a head airbag arrangement for a motor vehicle with a gas bag which is concealed in the folded state between the roof liner and a roof rail and a gas generator for inflating the gas bag with propellant gas in the event of a crash.
- the headliner headliner is installed one after the other in a temporal manner, the head airbag being preassembled in the area of a side roof spar in complex overhead work and then the headlining is used as a facing on the face.
- the development path usually has to be corrected by additional components so that a malfunction is avoided.
- the gas generator is conventionally located at one end of the gas bag, and the propellant or process gas is distributed over the entire length of the gas bag by a rigid gas distribution lance, which is intended to protect both the front and rear passengers.
- the necessary vehicle-fixed structures and the limitations of the installation space are perceived as particularly disadvantageous.
- the object of the invention is to avoid the disadvantages which have arisen in the prior art and to enable reliable airbag deployment, with the aim of achieving a simple system structure with low coordination problems.
- the combination of features specified in claim 1 is proposed.
- the invention is based on the idea of creating the unfolding space during a pre-filling phase by means of a multi-chamber arrangement. Accordingly, it is proposed according to the invention that the gas bag has an elongated tubular pre-filling chamber which can be inflated with transverse expansion for the edge-side folding down of the headliner, and a propellant gas which can be acted upon via side overflow openings of the pre-filling chamber and which can be unfolded downward through an outlet area released when the roof lining is folded down.
- the headlining By expanding the cross-section of the pre-fill chamber, the headlining can be pushed away from the adjacent vehicle structure or the roof spar, so that sufficient clearance is ensured even with distance tolerances.
- the inflatable pre-fill chamber can be easily adapted to the contour of the headlining as a flexible pack without having to pay particular attention to the vehicle structure. There is also no need for complex guiding structures on the body, which could possibly lead to malfunctions, particularly in the case of tolerance problems.
- the transverse dimension of the prefill chamber in the inflated state be greater than the clear edge distance between the headliner and the adjacent vehicle structure or roof spar in the starting position. It is also advantageous for this if the prefill chamber has an essentially circular cross section in the inflated state.
- a further advantageous embodiment provides that the gas bag is arranged in a protective cover which is adapted to the inflation volume of the prefill chamber. net, the protective cover having a predetermined breaking line that can be torn open when the protective chamber is unfolded. In this way, the deployment can be controlled even more effectively, and the protective cover also simplifies handling during assembly.
- the predetermined breaking line is advantageously formed by a seam, perforation or wall weakening of the protective cover.
- the roof lining has a weakening line along an edge strip that folds down when the prefill chamber is inflated.
- Gas distribution over the length of the airbag can be achieved in a simple manner in that the prefill chamber is separated from the protective chamber by a partition or longitudinal seam which is broken through at the overflow openings.
- the overflow openings are closed by tear seams in the initial state, the tear seams tearing in the event of a crash and exposing the overflow openings.
- the thread size and / or the stitch spacing of the tear seams can be adapted to set the time at which the tear occurs.
- the protective chamber has a plurality of inflation areas which are preferably separated from one another by stitchings and are matched to the seating position of the vehicle occupants. Another improvement provides that the deployment thickness of the protective chamber is limited by preferably punctiform wall connections.
- a particularly simple embodiment provides that the prefill chamber is preferably connected directly to the gas generator in a central section, so that a rigid gas distribution system can be dispensed with.
- the prefill chamber is preferably arranged in the area of the outlet opening of the gas generator has an internal shield, formed by an optionally destructible fabric diffuser, against direct exposure to hot propellant gas.
- the gas generator can be preassembled via a flange on the headlining, the gas bag being arranged along a side edge of the headlining.
- the gas generator is then sufficient for the gas generator to be fixable by means of screws, preferably in the area of the B-pillar of the motor vehicle, by means of a holding plate projecting laterally.
- the holding plate has a guide contour projecting into the vehicle interior for deflecting the protective chamber.
- Figure 1 shows an arrangement of a head airbag in the unfolded state in a passenger car in a side view.
- FIG. 2 shows a partial vertical section of the arrangement according to FIG. 1 in the starting position
- the head airbag module 10 shown in the drawing is arranged between the roof liner 12 and a roof rail 14 of the passenger car 16 and can be triggered in the event of a crash by a sensor device (not shown) for impact protection of the vehicle occupants.
- the airbag module 10 has a gas generator 18 and a gas bag 20 which is inflatable with propellant gas from the gas generator.
- the airbag is deployed in two stages, initially with an elongated tube folded pre-fill chamber 22 is inflated and the roof liner 12 is folded down at the edge, and then a protective chamber 24 is unfolded downward as a flat curtain cushion in the side window area (FIG. 1).
- the gas bag 20 which consists of a flexible fabric, is held on the edge of the roof lining 12 in a protective cover 26 in the folded state.
- the protective cover 26 is opened at a lower tear seam 28, as will be explained in more detail below.
- the airbag module 10 is fastened on the generator side to notches of a holding plate 32 via connecting means 30.
- the holding plate 32 comprises a flange part 34 for preassembly on the inner side 38 of the headliner 12 facing the roof skin 36, for example via an adhesive connection.
- the attachment takes place in a central section of the roof lining 12 assigned to the B-pillar 40 of the vehicle 16, while the elongated flexible gas bag package is laid out and fixed in the protective cover 26 along an edge strip 42 of the roof lining 12.
- An adapter cable (not shown) can also be laid on the holding plate 32 for subsequent contacting with the sensor device.
- airbag module 10 and headlining 12 simplifies functional coordination without additional components having to be installed overhead in the final assembly in the vehicle.
- a screw 44 on the holding plate 32, which is screwed into the B-pillar 40, is sufficient for fixing on the vehicle side.
- the edge strip 42 of the roof lining 12 engages behind the B-pillar cladding 46, with a bulge 48 in the holding plate 32 preventing the gas bag 20 from unfolding behind the cladding 46 in this area.
- the tubular pre-filling chamber 22 is connected in its central section directly to the cylindrical gas generator 18 and can be acted upon with propellant gas via its front outlet openings 50.
- a fabric diffuser 52 is provided in the outflow area of the hot propellant gas, this shield being sacrificed if necessary.
- the pre-filling chamber 22 is still inflated within the closed protective cover 26, with the cross-section widening, so that the edge strip 42 of the roof lining 12 folds away or is pushed away from the adjacent vehicle structure towards the passenger compartment and thereby an outlet opening 54 for the gas bag 20 is created.
- the roof liner 12 is provided on the inside parallel to its edge edge with a linear wall weakening 56.
- the volume of the protective cover 26 is matched to the inflation volume of the prefill chamber 22, which can be inflated to a circular cross section, such that the tear seam 28 only tears when the desired opening width of the outlet opening 54 at the headliner edge has been reached, in order to ensure that the protective chamber which then unfolds is unimpeded 24 to ensure (Fig. 4).
- the protective chamber 24 is separated from the prefill chamber 22 by a longitudinal seam 58.
- the protective chamber 24 is inflated via lateral overflow openings 60 of the prefill chamber 22, which are formed by interruptions in the longitudinal seam 58. A sufficient gas flow through the overflow openings 60 only occurs in a second phase when the prefill chamber 22 is essentially filled and the internal pressure rises significantly.
- the onset of the second phase can also be controlled in that the overflow openings 60 are closed in the initial state by tear seams 61, the tear seams 61 after the inflation of the prefill Tear chamber 22 and release the overflow openings 60.
- the time of tearing open can be set by the thread thickness and / or the stitch spacing of the tear seams 61 being predetermined accordingly.
- the protective chamber 20 is divided by a sewing 62 into two primary inflation areas 64, which are matched to the seating position of the vehicle occupants. A further improvement is achieved in that in these inflation areas 64 the deployment thickness is limited by punctiform wall connections 66 of the protective chamber 24.
