La tenue du passe câble 5 dans son logement est obtenue par un épaulement intégré dans le socle 2 ou dans le couvercle 3. Cet épaulement évite la perte du passe câble lors de l'ouverture du boítier ou en cas de forte déformation par le câble.
La sélection des matériaux de fabrication des passes câbles 5 est faite, de préférence, selon les critères suivants:

  • matériau diélectrique et non propagateur de la flamme
  • matériau sans halogène
  • matériau résistant dans le temps aux agressions solaires et aux intempéries
  • matériau souple, élastique et endurant avec un état de surface abrasive (exemple: caoutchouc, néoprène, polyuréthane)
Ces passes câbles 5 sont constitués en interne de plusieurs lèvres fines qui se déforment autour des câbles lors de la fermeture du boítier. Ces fines lèvres effectuent à elles seules plusieurs barrières d'étanchéité entre l'extérieur et l'intérieur du boítier. Le nombre, la forme et la disposition de ces lèvres assurent une étanchéité minimale quelque soit le type ou la forme du câble traversant le passe câbles 5. Les lèvres vont donc s'appliquer sur la face externe du câble et épouser celui ci dans une fourchette de variation dimensionnelle.
En l'absence de câble et lors de la fermeture du boítier, le passe câble 5 forme une parfaite étanchéité grâce aux lèvres supérieures qui viennent épouser les lèvres inférieures.
Les lèvres sont réparties suivant l'axe de positionnement du câble.
Du fait que ces lèvres soient écartées les unes des autres, elles agissent comme des sas.
Ce boítier possède deux empreintes de fixation D permettant de le suspendre selon deux axes du boítier. Ces empreintes D sont intégrées dans la masse du socle 2 du boítier. L'intérêt de ses empreintes D est de permettre, sans pièce rapportée, de suspendre ce boítier de manière vertical et d'éviter par exemple une utilisation prolongée au sol: risque de choc ou d'écrasement, risque d'accumulation d'eau lors d'intempéries.
