Description

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung zum ein- oder beidseitigen Auftragen mehrerer flüssiger oder pastöser Auftragsmedien auf eine laufende Oberfläche, aufweisend ein Vorhangauftragswerk mit einer Düse zum Auftragen der Auftragsmedien, wobei das Vorhangauftragswerk die Auftragsmedien als sich im wesentlichen schwerkraftbedingt bewegenden Vorhang an die laufende Oberfläche abgibt, und die Oberfläche bei direktem Auftrag die Oberfläche einer Materialbahn, insbesondere aus Papier oder Karton, und bei indirektem Auftrag die Oberfläche eines Übertragungselementes, vorzugsweise eine Auftragswalze ist, welches die Auftragsmedien an die Oberfläche der Materialbahn abgibtThe invention relates to a device for applying one or more liquid or pasty application media to a running surface on one or both sides, comprising a curtain applicator with a nozzle for applying the application media, the curtain applicator delivering the application media as a substantially gravity-induced moving curtain to the moving surface. and the surface in the case of direct application is the surface of a material web, in particular of paper or cardboard, and in the case of indirect application is the surface of a transfer element, preferably an applicator roll, which delivers the application media to the surface of the material web

Devices with curtain applicators are known from the prior art, which make it possible to apply several coatings on top of each other. The document US 4,109,611 describes one of these devices containing the features of the preamble of claim 1. With these devices, however, it is not possible to apply several, ie different coatings along the width of the material web to be coated.

The invention has the object to improve a device of the type mentioned in that it is possible to apply several or different coatings along the width of a material web to be coated.

The invention solves this problem by a device of the type mentioned, in which according to the invention the curtain applicator is equipped with a nozzle having a plurality of juxtaposed along the width of the running surface chambers. By arranging a plurality of chambers along the width of the running surface, a plurality of coatings can be applied to a material web to be coated along the width thereof. Thus it is For example, it is possible to arrange several coating colors next to one another on the material web. These can be application media with different properties or rheological behavior or different types of liquid or pasty application media. Thus, for example, application media of one type, but with different solids contents, different viscosities or different compositions (ingredients), but also different application medium types, such as coating color, glue and starch, if desired, can be applied side by side.

In a preferred embodiment, the chambers may be equipped with fixed partitions. The partitions avoid a mixing of the application media in the nozzle. Since the partitions are fixed, always coatings of equal width can be applied next to each other.

In a further embodiment, the chambers may be equipped with movable partitions. As a result, the width of the coatings is adjustable according to certain specifications. In this way, the device can be flexibly adapted to specific requirements.

In a development of the invention, the partitions have a tapering end region. The tapered end regions give the adjacently arranged application media in the gravity-down curtain moving a guide in the downward movement. They also allow a turbulence-free connection of the contact with each other application media.

To further enhance the guidance of the downwardly moving curtain, the partitions may protrude beyond the exit openings of the nozzle.

Depending on the viscosity of the application medium, it may be advantageous if the partitions are flush with the outlet opening of the nozzle.

Another embodiment has short partitions that terminate in front of the exit opening of the nozzle. Consequently, the application media within the nozzle leave the chambers and thus come into contact with each other in the nozzle. However, since the application media come into contact with each other within the nozzle, no thickening may form at the contact areas of the application media, as would be the case if the application media outside the nozzle were to come into contact. Since the unwanted thickening is avoided by the relatively short partition, the application media applied to the material web also have no thickening in their contact area, so that the coating thickness is uniform on the material web.

A guide plate can also be attached to the nozzle, through which the application media can flow. The baffle supports a connection of the side by side emerging from the nozzle application media. However, so that the application media do not mix, they should have the highest possible viscosity.

Hereinafter, an embodiment of a device according to the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Fig. 1 zeigt eine Düse 10 eines Vorhangauftragswerks. Fig. 1 shows a nozzle 10 of a curtain applicator. The nozzle 10 is divided into three chambers 11, 12 and 13. Through the three chambers 11, 12 and 13 of a material web three different application media 17, 18 and 19 are fed. Since the chambers 11, 12 and 13 are arranged side by side along the width of the material web to be coated, the three different application media 17, 18 and 19 are applied side by side on the material web. Thus, it is possible, for example, to apply three different coating media side by side on the material web. The chambers 11, 12 and 13 are separated by partitions 14 and 15 from each other. The partitions 14 and 15 have a tapered end portion 16. The tapered end portions 16 give the adjacently arranged application media 17, 18 and 19 in the gravity-down down moving curtain a guide in the downward movement. They also allow a turbulence-free connection of the mutually contacting application media 17, 18 and 19. The partitions 14 and 15 are fixed, and thus allow always coatings of the same width can be applied to the material web side by side.

Fig. 2 zeigt eine Düse 20. 2 shows a nozzle 20. It has three chambers 21, 22 and 23, so that the three application media 17, 18 and 19 can be applied to the material web. The three chambers 21, 22 and 23 are separated by two movable partitions 24 and 25. Since the two partitions 24 and 25, as indicated by small double arrows, are displaced, the width of the coatings can be adjusted according to certain specifications. Thus, the nozzle 20 can be adapted by the displaceability of the partitions 24 and 25 flexibly to certain requirements. The partition walls 24 and 25 have a tapered end portion 27 which protrudes from the nozzle 20 and from the outlet opening (outlet slit) 34. Due to the protruding partitions 24 and 25 is the gravitational down moving curtain 29 and the three of the three Chambers 21,22, 23 ongoing curtains 29a, 29b, and 29c or even more curtains given an even better leadership.

3 shows a nozzle 30 which has two chambers 31 and 32. A partition wall 33 separates the two chambers 31 and 32 from each other. The partition wall 33 is relatively short and ends even before an outlet openings 34 of the nozzle 30. Therefore, application media 35 and 36 leave the chambers 31 and 32 already within the nozzle 30. The application media 35 and 36 come thus already within the nozzle 30 in contact. Since the application media 35 and 36 come into contact with each other within the nozzle 30, no thickening may form in contact areas of the application media 35 and 36, as would be the case if the application media outside the nozzle 30 were to come into contact.
Since the unwanted thickening is avoided by the relatively short partition wall 33, and the application media applied to the material web 35 and 36 in their contact area no thickening, so that the coating thickness is seen on the material web over its width is very uniform.

Fig. 4. shows a nozzle 40 to which a baffle 41 is mounted. The baffle 41 supports a flow of the exit media across the downward flow forming the curtain. As a result, the application media exiting side by side from the nozzle 40 can connect better. However, in order to avoid a thorough mixing of the connecting application media, the intended application media should have the highest possible viscosity.

For a better understanding in Figure 4, the individual chambers 11, 12, 13, 21, 22, 23, 31,32, the outlet opening 34 and the discharged curtain 29 or individual curtains 29 a, b, c with specified.
