Definitions
- the invention relates to a broad-nip calender arrangement with a shoe roll, which has a circumferential coat and a pressing device, a counter-pressure element, with the shoe roll together a nip forms, and a humidifier.
- a wide-nip calender is used to make a web, in particular a web of paper or cardboard, too smooth.
- the smoothing takes place while saving volume, because you due to the relatively long treatment time (compared with a nip between two rolls) with a lower compressive stress can work.
- Calendering too one can improve the result Apply a moisture to the calendering.
- a Moisture usually causes the fibers soften at least on the moistened side leave and smooth accordingly better.
- the moisture is in the form of a Spray mist or steam applied to the web before the web enters the Breitnip.
- the invention is based on the object possibilities to increase the order of moisture.
- the shell is thus wettable, i. Liquid that get on this coat, can form a film.
- a non-hydrophilic, So hydrophobic surface the moisture to individual Run-lines converge. If you have one now used hydrophilic roll shell, then you are at no longer limited to the order of moisture, that the moisture before entering the railway in the broad nip completely absorbed by the railway has been. The moisture can also be on get the surface of the jacket. There she is due the hydrophilic formation of the surface in the form of a film transferred to the coat, so does not work to larger spots together, which is detrimental to would affect the humidification of the web.
- the moistening device is at least partially directed to the coat.
- the humidity So no longer has to transfer directly to the train But it can also be first on the surface the coat of the shoe roll and From there, get on the train. This is expanding the possibilities of humidification continue. You can now the order of liquid in addition, for example use it to cool the coat.
- Such unilateral web wetting is e.g.
- the surface of the shell has a wettability in which a contact angle between the liquid dispensed by the moistening device and the surface of the shell is less than 90 °.
- the contact angle characterizes the wettability.
- the wettability can also be expressed by the so-called critical surface tension ⁇ crit .
- a good wettability is present when the contact angle is less than 90 °, preferably much smaller than 90 °. For example, a spontaneous spreading of a liquid and thus self-spreading wetting of mineral oils is present.
- the contact angle here is 0 °. If you use water for humidification, the contact angle will be greater than 0 °. But you can take appropriate measures to ensure that even when using water forms a suitable liquid film on the surface of the shell.
- the sheath is of a hydrophilic material educated. By choosing an appropriate material arise the desired conditions the surface automatically.
- the Surface of the shell has a microstructure.
- the jacket is made of a plastic, which is capable of detecting the repeated deformations, which arise when passing through the broad nip, without damage. Many of these However, plastics are not hydrophilic in themselves rather hydrophobic. Now if you have a corresponding microstructure on the surface of the mantle, then can one by a physical configuration of the Mantle surface to reach the wettability.
- Such Microstructure may e.g. a micro-engraving of very small "wells", so be wells, like it is known from gravure ago. Instead of wells You can also get small grooves, scales or grooves use that lead to a similar effect.
- the humidifier works with an electric field generating device.
- the production An electric field is a physical one Measure to make the surface hydrophilic. When applying a high voltage field to the jacket, wetting by electrostatics.
- a wetting agent addition device which is a wetting agent of the moistening device and / or the surface of the jacket feeds.
- the production or improvement of the wettability takes place in a chemical way. You can, for example Use surfactants that reduce the surface tension of the Reduce the liquid to be applied and make it so wettable do.
- FIG. 1 shows a broad-nip calender arrangement 1 with a Shoe roll 2, a circumferential coat 3 and having a pressing device 4.
- the jacket 3 is over several deflection or support rollers 5 out.
- the jacket is relative stiff. He can also be trained as a band, which is much thinner, in which case more Support rollers 5 are required.
- the jacket 3 cooperates with a counter-roller 6, the is designed as a hard roller and, for example Steel or cast exists.
- a counter-roller 6 In the counter-roller 6 are heating channels 7 provided by a heat transfer medium, For example, steam, hot water or hot oil, passed can be to temper the backing roll 6.
- the pressing device 4 presses the jacket 3 with a predetermined pressure and over a predetermined length in the counter roll 6. This creates a broad nip 8, through a web 9, for example a web of paper or cardboard, is led to them in the nip 8 too smooth.
- the Moisture through a moisture applicator 10 provided the moisture from spray nozzles 11 spends.
- the spray nozzles 11 are not here anymore directed directly at the web 9, but on the surface 12 of the shell 3.
- At this surface 12 forms due to the properties described below and embodiments, a uniform moisture film out, which is transferred to the web 9, when the web 9 passes through the nip 8.
- the moisture applicator is 10 about on the wide nip 8 opposite Side of the shell 3 arranged so that the moisture About a half turn on the surface of the Jacket remains before being pressed into the web 9 becomes.
- Wettability is characterized by the contact angle formed by a drop of liquid on the surface 12 or also expressed by the so-called critical surface tension ⁇ crit .
- ⁇ crit critical surface tension
- the material of the shell 3 itself is hydrophilic. Such a choice of material may have other properties of the jacket 3 adversely affect.
- the jacket 3 must when passing through the wide nip 8 repeatedly deformed become. It is therefore also possible to provide for other measures to make the surface 12 of the shell 3 hydrophilic.
- the surface 12 of the shell a plurality of small recesses 13th on, so a microstructure by a large Variety of very small "wells" is formed.
- a Such micro-engraving is known from gravure ago.
- the field generating device 14 generates an electrical Field between the moisture applicator 10 and the jacket 3. These are at least some the support rollers 5 connected to a ground potential 15. The high voltage between the moisture applicator 10 and the jacket 3 can quite several amount to a thousand volts.
- a wetting agent-adding device 16 which is a wetting agent,
- a wetting agent for example, surfactants
- spray nozzles 17 to the surface 12 of the shell 3, or the wetting agent of the moisture application device 10 supplies, so that the wetting agent mixed with the liquid at the supply, which is over a Line 18 is permanently supplied.
- the surface 12th provides a surface layer, not shown, which is hydrophilic per se.
- the jacket 3 then consist of two layers, wherein the inner layer ensures the mechanical stability and the outer layer has hydrophilic properties of the jacket on the surface 12.
