Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a document secured by an opaque infrared material.
  • the security elements were mainly constituted by signs or characters printed on the support forming the document using high definition printing means which do not allow reproduction by conventional means.
  • the increase in the definition of reproduction means by photocopying, whether photocopiers or scanners associated with printers, makes it possible to ensure the reproduction of a printed pattern with a quality such that it becomes difficult to distinguish between authentic printing and fraudulent reproduction.
  • the dark background is obtained by a color automatically including carbon so that the 'sign is no longer individualized and the assembly appears black on an infrared sensor.
  • This embodiment therefore provides effective securing, however the colors containing carbon are necessarily dark, which considerably limits the possibilities of producing a sign which fits into the general design of the ticket comprising this sign.
  • An object of the invention is to provide a security element by means of an infrared absorbing material while being integrated into the design of the document to which it is applied.
  • a secure document comprising at least one security element comprising at least one zone having a color which does not cause or only slightly includes an infrared opaque component during a reproduction by photocopy, and at least one security sign extending in this zone, the security sign being produced with an opaque infrared security material but having a color not causing little or no inclusion of an opaque component infrared when reproducing by photocopy.
  • the entire security element is reproduced without inclusion of carbon or with a very low inclusion of carbon.
  • the security sign does not appear or appears very weakly, so that it is easy to see that the document is not authentic.
  • the colors which do not entail carbon inclusion during reproduction by photocopying are light colors which are easily integrated into the design of the security element and of the document.
  • the security material is transparent to visible light.
  • the reproduction apparatus is not provided with any ink transparent to visible light and opaque to infrared.
  • the area of the authentic security element carrying the security material is therefore simply reproduced with its visible colors so that the fraud is revealed without any ambiguity when the reproduced document is exposed to infrared radiation.
  • the security material is applied to a part of the fibers forming the support, for example in the paper constituting a bank note by providing during the manufacture of the paper a proportion of plastic fibers containing the safety material and which are mixed with cellulosic fibers. Provision may also be made to cover fibers with the security material and, if necessary, to cover the security material with a varnish. It will be noted in this connection that the mere presence of fibers absorbing infrared rays and even simply distributed randomly in the paper constitutes in itself a sign of security without it being necessary for these fibers to assume a particular form.
  • the security element may be a wire or a ribbon incorporated in the document and covered or impregnated with security material or else a wire or a ribbon made of plastic material containing the security material.
  • the security material can be arranged in a regular or random pattern or extend over the entire length of the wire or ribbon.
  • the security material can be incorporated into transparent areas of a hot transfer film, the non-transparent areas of which form holograms or are simply metallized or covered with a printed pattern.
  • the security material according to the invention can also be applied in the form of a continuous strip superposed on a discontinuous metal strip (above or below the latter), or in the form of a discontinuous strip, the segments are interspersed with segments of a discontinuous metal strip.
  • a discontinuous metal strip above or below the latter
  • the segments are interspersed with segments of a discontinuous metal strip.
  • the security material is incorporated into a security composition, preferably a liquid ink, used to print a sign or a pattern.
  • a security composition preferably a liquid ink, used to print a sign or a pattern.
  • the security composition preferably comprises clear pigments so that during fraudulent reproduction by photoco- pie, this reproduction will not result in the inclusion of carbon particles or a very low inclusion of carbon particles.
  • very low inclusion of carbon particles is meant an inclusion such that the safety sign appears much more weakly under infrared radiation than the authentic safety sign.
  • the security composition only comprises components which are transparent to visible light. It is then possible to make a large security sign extending even straddling other security elements not sensitive to infrared.
  • the security element according to the invention then appears alone when the ticket is subjected to infrared radiation so that a very rapid verification of the authenticity of a ticket can be carried out by placing the ticket in a device comprising a source. infrared radiation and an infrared sensor, this type of device being very inexpensive to produce at present.
  • a fully transparent pattern in visible light also has the advantage of allowing large positioning tolerances when printing the ticket without detracting from its aesthetics.
  • the security material it is not necessary for the security material to be completely opaque to infrared rays. It suffices that it sufficiently absorbs infrared rays for a significant difference to be observed between the sign comprising the safety material and the surrounding areas, or at least that this contrast is appreciably more pronounced than on a reproduction of the document by photocopy.
  • the invention has been described with reference to colors which do not involve the inclusion of carbon which is currently the main opaque infrared component in the inks of photocopying machines, the invention is aimed at all inks having an opaque infrared component.
