Definitions
- the present invention relates to a wetting tray for a brush, in particular of the type comprising a transverse application spatula of absorbent material, and a paint box equipped with said tray.
- a box of the type described in the patent US5,318,171 comprising a series of paint blocks of different colors, arranged side by side so as to project each side by side a surface of paint composing a common sampling surface for a suitable brush (for example a brush with an elongated edge of material absorbent).
- the box can contain several brushes of different sizes adapted to take simultaneously two to several colors.
- the paint can may comprise wetting means consisting of a tray in which is disposed a sponge intended to be in the lower part drenched with water and drying means also consisting of a tray in which a sponge rests at the dry start.
- the specific arrangement of the paint blocks projecting side by side allows to advantageously take several colors simultaneously with the same brush.
- the user can then spread the paint drawn by the brush on a paper by "pulling" the colors in the manner of a rainbow or by using the brush field to make stamp effects.
- By playing on the direction of movement of the brush relative to its elongated edge it is also possible to easily make many patterns, circles, waves, geometry figures, relief effects, caligraphy, etc.
- a box of paint of this type is very interesting especially in terms of awakening infants or disabled people, especially because these children or people arrive very quickly to indulge themselves by easily realizing very beautiful drawings and playful way (surprising result).
- the present invention aims in particular to overcome these disadvantages.
- a paint box comprising a series of paint blocks arranged side by side so as to project each side by side a surface of paint composing a common sampling surface for a brush, characterized by two stops lateral flanking said series of paint blocks so as to define a paint removal corridor for said brush.
- the brush can be guided during its movement on the surface of paint removal in a corridor corresponding to a general direction of the paint blocks. There is no longer a risk that a color already taken comes to cover an adjacent block by mistake or lack of dexterity.
- the invention is characterized in that the paint blocks are interchangeable so as to define a sampling strip that can be composed of a different sequence of colors.
- each paint block is mounted for example on a support comprising fastening means adapted to cooperate with complementary fastening means formed in said box, all of the supports and attachment means being identical so as to allow the interchangeability of said paint blocks.
- one of the stops is fixed and the other can be interchangeable with one of the paint blocks so as to define a smaller sampling corridor, said stop being mounted on a support comprising fastening means similar to the attachment means of the paint blocks so as to allow interchangeability between said stopper and the any of the paint blocks. This feature further increases the number of possible color combinations.
- the paint box advantageously contains a set of brushes, each brush having an end portion of absorbent material for drawing paint and having substantially a length corresponding to the width of a corridor or sampling strip possible.
- the present invention provides means for wetting the brush or brushes comprising a tray for containing a member of absorbent material gorged in the lower part of the wetting liquid, said tray having means for settling the pigments contained where appropriate in said wetting liquid, for example settling pads on which the element of absorbent material rests.
- means for drying a brush comprising according to the invention an element of absorbent material disposed in a sieve receptacle above a liquid receiving tray.
- the tray for receiving this liquid is placed in communication with the wetting liquid tank. More particularly still and advantageous to achieve, a single wetting / drying tank is implemented with in its bottom a portion provided with settling pads and a tray lid divided into an open portion above said pads and a receptacle portion in the form of colander.
- the absorbent material used for wetting is a filter material, allowing the circulation of water and pigments so that they are not trapped in the material and can settle at the bottom of the tray in the settling zone.
- This may be for example an open-celled aerated foam material.
- the material used for drying is a very absorbent material, to absorb very quickly the water of the brush.
- This may be for example a felt-type material, with very tight fibers, especially viscose.
- the paint box according to the invention may comprise a plate made in one piece, for example by molding a plastic material, comprising along the front edge an area intended for paint blocks, said corridor or strip of paint extending substantially perpendicular to said front edge, a wetting tray being located behind said paint zone opposite said front edge.
- the mooring pan is located behind the paint blocks in relation to the movement in the paint draw-off lane made towards the front edge, with a wetting sponge extending across the width of the block assembly, and not at the side as in the commercialized model corresponding to the patent US5,318,171 . This facilitates the use of an ergonomic point of view.
- the tray may further comprise next to a wetting / drying tank an area for fixing the brushes for example by pinching their handle. In this case, it will advantageously be possible to provide a larger area for paint blocks containing a larger number, for example of blocks and therefore of colors.
- the invention proposes a brush characterized by two parts, a first "applicator” part comprising a spatula covered with an absorbent material whose one of the elongated edges serves as a field for taking and applying paint and a second portion constituted by the handle of the brush having at one of its ends a continuous section of assembly member "U” for firmly clamping the edge of said spatula opposite the paint removal edge.
- the two flat wings of the member "U” can each cover a portion of the spatula absorbent material and thus limit the usable width to the really useful width in practice namely the leading edge of the brush.
- the two parts of the brush can be separable with one side a disposable part comprising the application strip of absorbent material and, on the other hand, a reusable handle .
- the first part consists of a core of rigid material surrounded by a strip of absorbent material of "U" section, the edge corresponding to the fold of said strip constituting the sampling edge of painting.
- the core has, on the opposite side to said edge, a thicker rear edge intended to be inserted laterally into the "U" section member, the latter having a bottom of complementary shape to said thicker edge so that the brush portion can not be released against against the axis of the handle.
- a clamp-type assembly system the two tabs of the assembly member being adapted to clamp the applicator strip between them by a conventional system of soliciting the tabs towards each other at the same time. rest.
- the paint box comprises a plate 1 on which are defined, near a front edge 2, an area 3 with paint blocks 4 and a station 5 for wetting / drying brush (x) behind the zone 3, consisting essentially of a tray 6 provided with a lid 7 for two elements of absorbent materials, a wetting sponge 8 and a drying sponge 9.
- the tray 1 comprises on its the underside of the non-slip pads (not visible in the figures) and the periphery of its upper face comprises a bead 1 a preventing water if necessary from flowing out of the tray.
- the paint box has a set of brushes, for example of the type shown in FIG. figure 11 and described later.
- Each paint block 4 here has the general shape of a half-pellet, namely a half section of cylinder, with two opposite lateral faces 4a and 4b; a flat lower face 4c, corresponding substantially to the diameter of the cylinder and serving for its attachment to a sole portion 13 of a fastening support 10 (see Figures 8 and 9 ) and a 4d slice providing a semi-cylindrical surface for painting with a paintbrush.
- the sole 13 of the attachment support 10 comprises for framing the base of the half-pellet 4, small projecting walls 17 and 18 on a longitudinal edge, and 19 on the opposite longitudinal edge.
- two small walls 20 and 21 are provided on the sole 13 to frame the base of the wafer 4d of the half pellet.
- all of the small walls forming a discontinuous wall at the base of the paint block advantageously promote the evacuation of liquid to the plate, the liquid which would otherwise eat away and unnecessarily use the paint block at its base.
- Each block is bonded to the sole 13 of a support 10.
- the paint box thus comprises a set of blocks 4 identical paint but different colors, each mounted on an identical support 10. This allows, according to the invention, an interchangeability of the paint blocks on the plate 1 and thus to change the position of the colors relative to each other.
- the attachment means of a block 4 on the plate 1 comprises projecting on the underside of the sole 13 of the support 10 a groove 22 extending longitudinally. This groove is adapted to cooperate with a slide, such as 30, formed on the plate 1 in the zone 3 provided for the paint blocks.
- the tray 1 comprises a series of identical rails 30 provided side by side and extending in directions parallel to each other so that the half paint pellets have the proper orientation in the space once attached side by side on the plateau, as on the figure 1 .
- the slides 30 are formed in a raised portion 31 of the plate 1 and open on the edge of this raised portion located opposite the front edge 2 of the plate 1.
- Each slide 30 is composed from the open end of a portion of introduction 32 with parallel straight walls, a locking seat 33 with arcuate walls and a bottom portion 34 again with straight and parallel walls.
- said groove has an insertion end 35 which is rounded.
- the groove 22 of the support 10 comprises an enlarged portion 36, forming a stop, located here at the end opposite the insertion end 34, composed of two arcuate walls 36a, 36b facing each other. the other.
- the abutment 36 is complementary to the locking seat 33 of a slide (see figure 10 ).
- the supports To facilitate the placement of the supports, without touching the block of paint that can be messy, they are provided with a gripping tab 40 located in the extension of the end of the sole 13 opposite the introduction edge
- the insertion portion 32 thereof is widened relative to the bottom portion 34 which is adjusted to the width of the groove 22. width of the groove 22 to maintain it.
- the arcuate walls 36a and 36b of the abutment 36 have a certain elasticity with respect to the remainder of the groove allowing them to be brought closer to each other to engage in the portion 32 of a slide 30 before being firmly locked in the locking seat 33.
- the different paint blocks 4 can thus be fixed on the plate 1, located side by side with their lateral faces 4a, 4b facing each other with consequently their only accessible portion 4d, all of these slices 4d, flush with each other. at the same level, forming a common semi-cylindrical paint drawing surface for a wet paintbrush.
- the removal of paint on several blocks is done thanks to a particular brush design (see Figures 11 and 12 ), comprising an application spatula 50 covered with an absorbent material, having a flattened firm and sufficiently elongated to cover at least two slices 4d of paint blocks 4.
- a brush having the characteristics according to the invention, is described later in detail.
- the gap between the paint blocks is preferably fixed so that the colors sampled simultaneously are once applied on the support sufficiently contrasted with each other with a slight transition between the colors.
- two lateral stops 61 and 62 are arranged to define a paint removal corridor adapted to the length of the application spatula 50 of a brush.
- One of the stops here 61 is fixed, for example made in one piece by molding with the plate 1 or reported by gluing. It is placed next to one of the two slides 30 at the end of the series of slides.
- the protruding part 65 in the half-moon of the abutment 61 performs the function of lateral abutment and therefore guide the brush along the edge of the wafer 4d of the terminal block of the series of blocks.
- the other lateral stop 62 is removable, interchangeable with one of the paint blocks.
- the Figures 6 and 7 represent this stop 62 fixed on an attachment support 10 (the gripping tab 40 omitted).
- the stop 62 has a shape similar to that of the paint blocks 4, in half semi-cylindrical pellet, with a front face 62a, a rear face 62b, a flat lower face 62c and a slice 62d.
- the dimensions of the stop 62 are similar to those of a paint block in width and thickness (in particular to be able to be fixed on the sole 13 of the support) and, as for the fixed lateral abutment 61, a greater height to perform the stop and lateral guide function along the edge of a slice 4d of an adjacent block.
- this removable stop 62 is shown in second position from the right on the plate 1, defining a sampling corridor in six colors.
- the abutment 62 For its attachment to a sole 13, with respect to the paint blocks 4, the abutment 62, because it can be made by molding, further comprises on its flat lower face 62c, near one end, a tenon 11 circular shape intended to engage in a hole of complementary shape 12 present in the sole 13 of the attachment support 10 (the hole resulting from molding constraints of the support 10).
- FIG. 11 and 12 An example of a brush according to the invention is shown to Figures 11 and 12 . It consists of two parts: on the one hand a handle 51 with an assembly member 52 extending transversely in the same plane as that containing the handle 51, of continuous general section "U", and, other on the other hand, the application spatula 50 made of absorbent material mentioned above, itself consisting of a core 53 made of rigid material and a strip 54 of absorbent material with a "U" -shaped general section. More particularly, the assembly member 52 of "U” section comprises two parallel flat wings 52a and 52b and a bottom which is widened in rounded to form a groove 55 hooking.
- the core 53 of the application spatula 50 comprises a rectangular flat lug 56 with a bead 57 of circular cross-section formed on one of the longitudinal edges intended to be inserted laterally into the groove 55 of the transverse end portion of the sleeve, as seen on the figure 12 .
- the absorbent material portion 54 is intended to substantially cover the core 53 to half of the bead 57. It is fixed by gluing.
- the front end 58 forming the field of the brush which is used to finish removing the paint, is rounded slightly curved to provide a continuous and flexible form for the application of paint.
- the application spatula 50 and the handle 51 are assembled by laterally inserting the bead 57 in the groove 55 forming a blockage perpendicular to the bead and the groove.
- the wings 52a and 52b thus cover and limiting the width of the absorbent portion to reveal that the front end 58 is a sufficient area to collect and apply paint while being easy to rinse and dry.
- a handle part and an applicator part it is possible initially to manufacture, by extrusion in particular, a long application strip made of a long strip of absorbent material bonded to a long core rigid and cut then application bands such as 50, including also different lengths.
- application bands such as 50, including also different lengths.
- assembly means that are simple to implement, we can design an applicator part that is disposable.
- the paint box can contain an additional brush with an application band adapted to take paint on a single block of paint.
- the wetting / drying station comprises, as has been seen above, a single tray 6 with a front wall 70 facing the zone 5 of the paint blocks, an opposite rear wall 71, a left-side wall 72 and a side wall 73
- the bottom of the tray 6 is flat and has a so-called settling zone defined by a series of elongate pads 80 arranged parallel to each other and parallel to the side walls 72 and 73.
- the pads 80 extend over about the front half the bottom of the tray from the front wall 70.
- the wetting sponge 8 is intended to be placed on the pads 80, the latter extending in the direction of the width of the sponge.
- the upper periphery 75 of the walls of the tray 6 has a reduced thickness so as to define a peripheral rim 76 on which is wedged the end of the outer skirt 77 of the lid 7 of the tray, so as to define continuous outer walls between the lid and tray when the lid is installed on the tray.
- the lid 7 comprises an upper wall in which two compartments are formed, one corresponding to the wetting station and the other to the drying station of the brush or brushes.
- the wetting compartment is defined by an inner skirt 78, forming a substantially parallelepipedal open bottom housing for the sponge 8.
- the latter has a parallelepipedal complementary shape, where appropriate slightly larger so that it can be held against the skirt 78 interior thanks to a slight compression of the material.
- the skirt 78 extends approximately preferably to the settling pads 80.
- the parallelepipedal housing extends generally over a length corresponding to the width of the largest paint removal corridor possible in the zone 5 and therefore with the brush the wider.
- the skirt 78 may be perforated or indented to increase the flow of water in the sponge 8.
- the material used for the sponge 8 is preferably an absorbent material, to be able to gorge in the lower part of water wetting, but which must also be filtering so that the pigments discharged by the brushes do not remain trapped in the sponge and can be decanted.
- This may be for example an open-cell synthetic foam material commonly used in water pumps to filter water.
- the drying compartment of the lid 7 is also defined in the lid by an inner skirt 79 forming a parallelepipedal housing for the drying sponge, but this time with a pierced bottom 81 forming a colander.
- the gravity evacuation ports of the water absorbed by the drying sponge 9 are here constituted by two series of slots 85 extending parallel to the width of the pierced bottom 81.
- the drying compartment is raised relative to the wetting compartment so that the tank 7 can be filled with water so as to soak the lower half of the wetting sponge 8 without the pierced bottom 81 of the compartment drying is in contact with water and is not likely to wet the drying sponge 9.
- An inclined wall connection 86 connects the two levels.
- the material used for the sponge 9 is preferably a material having a very high absorbency, of the type felt, very tight non-woven fibers, such as viscose fibers, to be very effective and fast.
- the level of the water supply R corresponding to the optimal optimum use of the paint can is represented on the Figures 3 and 4 .
- the level corresponds to immersion of the lower half of the wetting sponge 8, while the drying sponge 9 is above.
- the plate 1, the raised zone 31 with the lateral stop 61 and the parallel slides 30, as well as the tray 6 and the settling pads 80 can advantageously be made in one piece by molding a suitable synthetic material and constitute a part unique as represented in the figure 5 .
- the other parts, such as the cover 7, the supports 10 and the removable stop 62 can also be made by molding a synthetic material.
- the paint box is used as follows. A set of paint blocks 4 each secured on a support 10 is selected and fixed on the rails 30 in an order also selected. The first paint block of the series is placed next to the fixed stop 61 and the other side by side and finally the removable lateral stop 62 is fixed. The user chooses a brush corresponding to the width of the sampling corridor defined between the two stops. It applies the end portion of absorbent material 58 to the wetting sponge 8 to moisten it. It absorbent material 58 on the wetting sponge 8 to moisten it. It takes paint by guiding the brush in the corridor between the stops preferably from the end of the edge 4d of the paint blocks located near the wall 70 of the tray 7 to the other end of the edge 4d near the edge 2 of the tray 1.
- the user wets the sponge 8 at best so that the pigments are diluted in water and he dries his brush on the drying sponge 9 if this is then necessary.
- the released pigments will then settle under the sponge 8 between the settling pads 80, which makes it possible to conserve water in contact of the dampening sponge which remains clean longer compared to a tank without settling pads.
- To interchange the paint blocks then simply lift them through the grip tab 40 and replace it at the desired location.
- the shape of the paint blocks is not necessarily half-cylinder but may be such as to provide a flat surface sampling, possibly inclined.
- the general shape of the stops is not necessarily the same as that of the paint blocks.
- FIG 13 To the figure 13 is represented a variant 10 'of embodiment of the support element 10 of the paint blocks, being distinguished in that the fastening means provided under the sole 13' are constituted not of a groove for cooperating with a slide but of two latching lugs.
- One tab 90 is disposed on the side of the grip tab 40 'and the other tab 91 near the opposite end. They each have a bent hook end 100, 101 of snap facing outward adapted to cooperate each with a rim formed for this purpose in the tray 1.
- the present invention encompasses a paint box that only includes the area of the paint blocks, the brushes and the cleaning / rinsing tank being proposed only as an option. More precisely, it includes in this case a zone of paint blocks characterized by interchangeable paint blocks and optionally only with the lateral stops, and possibly as an option one of the lateral stops interchangeable with a block of paint. It also includes an area of paint blocks characterized by two fixed stops and optional only the interchangeability of paint blocks.
- the present invention encompasses in single objects, independently of the characteristics of the area of the paint blocks, a wetting / drying tank on the one hand and on the other hand a brush, as described in the present application.
