Definitions
- the invention relates to a draining gutter including oblong metal frames adapted to support one or more gratings, said metal frames being embedded in a bottom- forming material, such as polymeric concrete.
- the invention relates furthermore to a metal frame, preferably a cast-iron frame, for the manufacture of such a draining gutter.
- Gutters are used for draining off the water from areas, such as flat road surfaces or the like areas, such as asphalted or cemented airport areas. These draining gutters are relatively long and typically incorporated into the running surface in such a manner that the gratings involved flush with the running surface. Furthermore, they are of a relatively rugged structure in such a manner that they can tolerate the traffic over the gratings.
- These draining gutters can be formed by cast-iron frames embedded in a bottom-forming material, such as polymeric concrete, in such a manner that according to a cross-sectional view without the gratings, said outlets are of a substantially U-shaped cross section. The cast-iron frames form the ends of the legs of the U and are adapted to support the gratings.
- the object of the invention is to provide a draining gutter as well as a frame for the manufacture thereof, said draining gutter allowing the gratings to be kept frost-proof in such a manner that the functioning of the draining gutters is maintained especially during relatively cold periods.
- the draining gutter according to the invention is characterised in that the metal frames include means for retaining heating cables.
- Heating cables directly connected to the metal frames ensure that said metal frames are kept warm and can transfer the heat to the gratings in such a manner that said gratings are kept ice-free.
- the means for retaining the heating cables may according to the invention include a longitudinal groove which is formed in the side of the metal frames and faces the interior of the draining gutters, said groove being adapted to receive a heating cable.
- a particularly good retaining of the heating cables is obtained by the means for retaining said heating cables according to the invention including openings provided in the metal frames and adapted to receive members for fastening said heating ca- bles, where the fastening members include their respective pins to be received in one of the above openings, and where said fastening members also include a part connected to said pin and projecting over an adjacent heating cable so as to retain said cable in abutment against the metal frame in question.
- the heating cables are advantageously electric conduits.
- a metal frame to be used for the manufacture of a draining gutter may according to the invention include means for retaining a heating cable. These means may include a longitudinal groove formed in the side of the metal frame.
- the means for retaining the heating cable may particularly advantageously include openings for receiving members for fastening said heating cable, where said fasten- ing members include their respective pins to be received in one of said openings, and where said fastening members also include a part connected to said pin and adapted to project over an adjacent heating cable so as to retain said heating cable in abutment against the metal frame in question.
- Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic and cross-sectional end view of a draining gutter according to the invention
- Fig. 2 is a side view of a portion of a cast-iron frame
- Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along the line A- A in Fig. 2 of the cast-iron frame of Fig- 2,
- Fig. 4 is a sectional view along the line B-B in Fig. 2,
- Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken along the line C-C in Fig. 2, and
- Fig. 6 is an end view taken along the line D-D of the cast-iron frame shown in Fig. 2.
- the draining gutter shown in Fig. 1 includes two cast-iron frames 1 and 2 placed along their respective sides of said draining gutter and embedded in a suitable material, such as polymeric concrete 3, interconnecting the cast-iron frames 1 and 2 and forming the bottom of the draining gutter in such a manner that said draining gutter is of a substantially U-shaped cross section.
- the cast-iron frames 1 and 2 are pro- vided with suitable projections 4 and 5, respectively. These projections are adapted to retain the grating by means of a mechanical lock (not shown) built into the existing grating in such a manner that said grating cannot be removed from the draining gutter without the use of tools.
- Such projections appear also from Figs. 2 to 6.
- the cast-iron frames also include further projections 7 used for fixing the grating 6 in such a manner that it cannot be displaced lengthwise in the draining gutter.
- a groove 8 and 9, respectively, is formed on the inner side of the cast-iron gutters.
- This groove is adapted to receive an electric heat conduit 10 and 11, respectively.
- the grooves 8 and 9 are suitably shaped in such a manner that they render it possible for the heat conduits 10 and 11 to become wedged in the grooves when pressed or beaten inwards into said grooves, such as by means of a rubber hammer.
- An opening is provided at suitable intervals in the cast-iron frames on the side facing the interior of the cast-iron gutter so as to further ensure that the heat conduits 10 and 11 are retained in the grooves 8 and 9. These openings are adapted to receive fastening members 13. As shown in Fig.
- these fastening members 13 include their respective pins 14 to be received in the opening 12, as well as a part or branch 15 extending perpendicular thereto and being adapted to abut the inner side of the cast-iron frame.
- This part 15 extends substantially perpendicular to the adjacent groove 8 and 9 in such a manner that the heat conduit cannot fall out of the groove 8 and 9 once the fastening members 13 have been mounted.
- the fastening members are suitably cast of a plastic material and integral with a plurality of circumferential barbs 16 on the pin 14 in such a manner that said fastening members 13 are retained by a good re- taining force in the openings 12.
- guides can optionally be provided for ensuring that the parts or branches 15 of the fastening members 13 are retained in the correct position relative to the grooves 8 and 9.
- one or more additional recesses 18 are provided in the bottom of the grooves 8 and 9. Such an additional recess 18 can be used in a relatively easy manner for a possible, complete drilling through the cast-iron gutter in question in order to introduce a heat conduit 10 or 11.
- the cast-iron frames are structured with suitable openings and recesses in a conventionally known manner and such that the embedding into the polymeric concrete is ensured in the best possible manner.
- Recesses can optionally be formed in the sides of the cast-iron frames, said recesses being adapted to receive the branches 15 of the fastening members 13 in such a manner that the heat conduits are placed further down in the grooves 8 and 9.
