Definitions

  • the invention relates to a wheelchair leg rest for a wheelchair, which comprises a frame part, on which the leg rest is pivotally storable.
  • the angular adjustability of the legrest results from therapeutic, anatomical and / or personal requirements of the wheelchair user.
  • leg support design is suitable for the particular patient or wheelchair user should be decided by healthcare professionals. It is particularly crucial where the axis of rotation of the pivoting legrest is located to allow the user not only a comfortable storage of his leg, but also to allow entry into the wheelchair or leaving the wheelchair. Another important aspect is the length of the leg support. This must be adaptable to the anatomical conditions of the user.
  • the lateral freedom of movement of the wheelchair user, in relation to its seating position, is of great importance in order not to hinder easy lateral exiting or climbing the wheelchair, for example when changing over to another seat.
  • the upper edge of the leg support is located below the lower leg of the user.
  • the front edge of the legrest must be behind the knee of the leg of the wheelchair user to be supported. Otherwise, this would be disturbed when leaving or climbing the wheelchair with his leg or lower leg through the footrest. Apart from inconvenience this also results in a non-negligible risk of accidents.
  • legrest does not coincide with the anatomical knee pivot axis.
  • the result of the movement geometry is that the legrest shortens when lifting from the sitting position to the horizontal position relative to the lower leg of the user, so that its leg is narrowed in the extended state in its length.
  • Another disadvantage is that due to unfavorable leverage ratios of the known adjustment mechanisms often sufficient forces can not be realized in order to adequately ensure the angular adjustment of the loaded legrest.
  • US 5 711 580 A shows a wheelchair with a pivoting legrest.
  • the legrest is designed so that either by manually pivoting the foot plate itself or with the aid of an additional operating lever, the legrest is movable up and down. Since the leg support each comprises two struts, it is necessary for the hinge mechanism that one of these struts, which acts neither as a tension rod nor as a push rod, telescopically designed.
  • the telescopic strut merely serves to effect the angular alignment of the footplate.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a legrest of the type mentioned, which has a simple design and simple, cost manufacturability while avoiding the disadvantages of the prior art, an automatic length adjustment.
  • the legrest according to the invention is characterized by a number of significant advantages.
  • the underlying principle of the leg support realized according to the invention provides for the connection of a 4-joint mechanism with a 3-joint mechanism.
  • this construction according to the invention causes a change in length of the support arm, which is pivotally mounted on the frame part and whose length is variable servo motor, automatically raising or lowering the legrest. This means that the legrest automatically becomes longer when pivoting from the substantially vertical seating position into a substantially horizontal position, so that a correspondingly automatic length compensation results.
  • the legrest according to the invention comprises a telescopic support arm, which comprises a main part and a push rod, it is possible to realize the adjustability in the smallest space. This results in a very compact construction of the legrest.
  • the double-sided rocker arm according to the invention in conjunction with a push rod which extends from a first lever part of the rocker arm (hinged on both sides) to the frame part and by the use of a pull rod, which (hingedly connected) from the second lever part of the rocker arm to extends the free end portion of the push rod, the above-described combination of a 3-joint mechanism is realized with a 4-joint mechanism with very simple means.
  • the leg rest according to the invention Due to the possibility to store the push rod and / or the tension rod at different articulation points of the double-sided rocker arm, according to the invention also provides the opportunity to adjust the legrest in a very simple manner with regard to their automatic length compensation. A further adjustment can be made by the choice of the lengths of the tie rod and / or the push rod, so that the leg rest according to the invention can be used for both adult wheelchairs and children's wheelchairs without having to change the basic construction.
  • the carrier arm comprises a linear drive.
  • This linear drive includes commercially available components, so that the overall manufacturing cost of the legrest can be very low.
  • a 24V DC motor is used which drives a drive spindle which meshes with a nut fixedly connected to the push rod. By the mother, the rotational movement of the motor is converted into the required translational movement of the push rod.
  • Such a structure is simple and inexpensive to produce and is characterized by a high degree of robustness.
  • All components of the drive unit according to the invention can be stored and / or guided in a common housing. As a result, damage to the drive unit can be avoided by contamination. At the same time it is prevented that the user of the wheelchair undesirably comes into contact with the drive elements and may damage them if necessary.
  • the frame part can be mounted pivotably on a wheelchair frame about a substantially vertical axis.
  • the legrest according to the invention can be attached to existing wheelchair constructions without them having to be fundamentally changed. It is particularly advantageous if the frame part is detachably mounted on the wheelchair. As a result, the legrest according to the invention, for example, to transport the wheelchair, or to adapt to the particular circumstances of the user quickly and easily be mounted.
  • two leg supports can be provided on a wheelchair. However, it may also be provided only one legrest for supporting the respective required leg of the wheelchair user.
  • the legrest according to the invention makes it possible to mount conventional foot plates or foot plate constructions on the push rod, so that there is also a great compatibility with existing wheelchair concepts.
  • legrest according to the invention is designed very compact. In the sitting position, all movable components are arranged in close association with each other, so that the freedom of movement of the user is hardly limited.
  • the inventive design results in a structure in which the legrest has its greatest length in the horizontal position, as required by the anatomical conditions of the wheelchair user.
  • the servo-motor drive performs four basic functions: on the one hand it serves as a drive, on the other hand it forms the load-bearing system of the legrest according to the invention. Furthermore, it leads to the desired automatic length compensation. In addition, it allows the recording or storage of the foot plate, which is itself infinitely adjustable.
  • the design chosen according to the invention results in a very large length compensation, which may be 85 mm or more, for example, in conventional gear ratios of the lever mechanism described.
  • legrest extends over wide areas, in particular the legrest can be used on a wide variety of wheelchair constructions. It is removable and swiveling and thus adapts to the respective conditions of use.
  • the figures initially show a section of a wheelchair frame 8 with a seat cushion 10 shown schematically.
  • a frame part 1 is pivotally mounted about a vertical axis 9.
  • the frame part 1 is thus pivotable laterally, as can be seen from the representation of FIG. 2. Furthermore, the frame part 1 can be lifted upwards and thus separated from the wheelchair frame 8.
  • a support arm 2 is mounted pivotably about a substantially horizontal pivot axis 12, comprising a main part 3 and a push rod 4 mounted telescopically thereon.
  • the main part 3 comprises a linear drive, not shown in detail, for example with a spindle and a nut and a DC motor. By actuating the linear drive, the push rod 4 is extended or retracted relative to the main part 3.
  • a double-acting rocker arm 5 is mounted by means of a pivot axis 13, which comprises a first lever part 5a and a second lever part 5b.
  • a pressure rod 6 is pivotally mounted via a pivot axis 14, the other end of which is pivotally mounted on the frame part 1 via a pivot axis 15.
  • the second lever part 5b supports, pivotable about a pivot axis 16, a tension rod 7, which is coupled at its other end via a pivot axis 17 with the push rod 4.
  • the legrest according to the invention thus forms a virtual fulcrum, which is brought to coincide with the pivot point or the axis of rotation of the knee of the user of the wheelchair by placing the legrest on the wheelchair. As a result, a relative movement between the leg support and the lower leg of the leg to be supported is prevented.
  • the legrest according to the invention extends over the adjustment angle, thus a superposition of a rotational movement and a translational movement of the base plate takes place.
  • the inventive design of the drive is self-locking, so that the lever mechanism formed by the leg support forms a statically determined system in the unactuated state. An unwanted lowering of the legrest is thus prevented.
  • the push rod 4 has a bearing head 19 at its free end. This can be suitably adapted to the respective structural requirements.
  • a calf pad 18 is provided laterally to support the calf of the wheelchair user accordingly. It is understood that, according to the invention, protective devices and / or padding can be provided in order to cover in particular variable cross sections of the pressure rod 6 and the tension rod 7 and the rocker arm 5 and to eliminate the risk of pinching the leg of the wheelchair user.
  • the electrical connection of the legrest according to the invention can take place via contact pins, for example in the region of the mounting of the frame part 1 on the wheelchair frame 8 can be provided. However, it is also possible to provide additional electrical cable or plug.
  • legrest according to the invention thus has a low and short construction, which does not hinder the freedom of movement of the wheelchair user. Furthermore, there is an automatic length compensation, which fully meets the anatomical requirements, for example, at an adjustment angle of 115 ° to 180 °.
  • the handling of the legrest according to the invention is greatly facilitated, so that both the wheelchair user and escorts can handle this easily.
