Claims (11)

  1. Method of transferring an insertion tail (2), which is part of a continuous paper web or cardboard web of high grammage, such as packaging paper or cardboard, from a web-discharging web-guiding surface (1a), via a web conveying apparatus (10), to the next structural unit (7) of a machine for producing and/or handling the continuous paper web or cardboard web, the insertion tail (2) being detached from the web-guiding surface (1a) and cut on a preliminary basis by means of at least one brief high-energy air jet and being completely severed by an additional mechanical severing arrangement (40), it being the case that the mechanical severing arrangement (40) used is in the form of a first and a second rotating blade (41, 42), which are each provided with a drive and are displaced from a standby position into an operating position, and the mechanical severing operation using the severing arrangement (40) is coordinated in time with the operation of the high-energy air jet such that the mechanical severing operation takes place immediately following commencement of the operation of the high-energy air jet.

  4. Apparatus according to Claim 3, characterized in that the mechanical severing arrangement (40) is part of the web conveying apparatus (10) and can be moved in the latter, or with the latter, relative to the web-guiding surface (1a).
  5. Apparatus according to Claim 3 or 4, characterized in that the mechanical severing arrangement (40) is arranged in a concealed manner beneath a guide plate (17), between two high-pressure chambers (15b, 15c) arranged one above the other, the top high-pressure chamber (15b) having a blowing opening (51) which directs the tail (2a) which is to be transferred in the direction of the guide plate (17).
  6. Apparatus according to Claim 3, characterized in that the blades (41, 42) each have a plurality of spaced-apart cutting edges (43) on the circumference.
  7. Apparatus according to Claim 3 and 6, characterized in that the blades (41, 42) are fitted such that they describe mutually overlapping circles as they rotate in opposite directions to one another.
  8. Apparatus according to Claim 3 to 7, characterized in that the blades (41, 42) are fitted at a small distance apart from one another in one plane.
  9. Apparatus according to Claim 3, characterized in that an additional blowing arrangement (50) is provided for eliminating a pocket-like folded-over start (2c) of the insertion tail (2) which has formed.
  10. Apparatus according to Claim 9, characterized in that the blowing arrangement (50) emits an air jet in the direction of the pocket-like folded-over section (2c) of the insertion tail (2) which is at least temporarily greater than the speed of the severed tail (2b).
  11. Apparatus according to Claim 10, characterized in that the speed of the air jet (51) is at least temporarily greater than 1.2 to 3 times the tail speed.
