  • the moulding seal 130 includes flexible resilient projections 131 to improve the seal produced.

  • the panel 160 in Figure 16 includes a strengthening member 161 having a U-shaped section to increase the strength of the panel 160 and to minimise the amount by which the panel 160 bends under pressure from the water.
  • the panel 160 also has two sealing strips 162 to further improve the seal formed with the neighbouring panel 163.
  • the panels can be made from a number of different materials, which are able to withstand the pressure of water without undergoing significant deformation. They can be formed, for example, from metal, wood or a suitable plastics material such as U-PVC. The panel should however be light enough to be easily lifted and positioned by the user. Aluminium has been found to be particular suitable in this respect.
  • the sealing material between the housing and the surface on which the housing is mounted is provided by a strip of resilient material.
  • the material can therefore, under the pressure applied by fixing the housing in position, and also of the pressure of the flood water, flow into the shape into the shape of the surface, for example a wall or door sill, to give an improved seal.
  • mastic sealant can also be applied, the mastic however being less easy to remove from the building and apparatus when the apparatus is dismantled from the building.
  • the dimensions of the elements of the apparatus will depend on the nature of the materials used in the construction and also on the size of the aperture to be protected. For example, where the material of construction is aluminium, then (for a panel to cover the aperture of a main doorway) a height of 160 to 190mm and a thickness of 20 to 30mm for the main panel body has been found to be suitable.
  • the height of the panel-engaging portions 12,13 can be 10 to 40mm, but 20 to 30mm has been found to be particularly suitable.
  • the thickness of the walls for such an aluminium panel are typically from 1.5 to 5.0mm in thickness, a thickness of from 2 to 3mm being found to be particularly suitable.
  • the thickness of the walls of the housing 40 are also from 2.0 to 5.0mm in thickness, with 2.5 to 3.5mm being preferred.

Claims (14)

  1. Vorrichtung zum Sichern einer Öffnung in einem Gebäude und/oder eines mit der Öffnung assoziierten Verschlussmittels, wobei die Vorrichtung die Aufgabe hat, das Eindringen von Wasser in die genannte Öffnung zu verhüten oder erheblich zu behindern, wobei die Vorrichtung Folgendes umfasst:
    einen Barrierenrahmen (83) zum Lagern eines Barrierenpaneels (80) nur auf zwei Seiten, wobei der Barrierenrahmen (83) an wenigstens einem Abschnitt der Peripherie der Öffnung abnehmbar befestigt werden kann;
    ein oder mehrere Barrierenpaneele (80), die jeweils mit dem Rahmen (83) dichtend in Eingriff gebracht werden können, um ein Mittel bereitzustellen, um Hochwasser abzuleiten oder davon abzuhalten, durch die genannten Öffnungen in das Gebäude einzudringen, wobei das oder jedes Barrierenpaneel (80) so adaptiert werden kann, dass es dichtend in ein benachbartes Barrierenpaneel (80) eingreift,
    dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Vorrichtung eine Pressarretierung (90) aufweist, die an einem Barrierenpaneel (80) montiert und zwischen einer Rahmeneingriffsposition und einer Rahmenlöseposition beweglich und in der Rahmeneingriffsposition so ausgelegt ist, dass sie das Barrierenpaneel (80) in einen Dichtungseingriff mit dem Barrierenrahmen (83) zieht.
  2. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass eine elastische Schicht zwischen dem Barrierenrahmen und dem oder jedem Barrierenpaneel eingeschlossen ist, die einen Teil zu dem anderen hin vorspannt, um verbesserte Dichtungseigenschaften zu erzielen.
  3. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sich die elastische Schicht permanent innerhalb des Barrierenrahmens befindet.
  4. Vorrichtung nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das oder jedes Barrierenpaneel planar und rechteckig gestaltet ist.
  5. Vorrichtung nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das oder jedes Barrierenpaneel hohl ist und ein oder mehrere Verstärkungselemente hat.
  6. Vorrichtung nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass ein Dichtungsmittel (132) zwischen dem Barrierenrahmen und dem Gebäude vorgesehen ist, um das Eindringen von Wasser zwischen dem Rahmen und dem Gebäude zu verhüten.
  7. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Dichtungsmittel ein Band aus elastischem Material ist, wobei sich das Band unter Druck verformt, so dass es der Gestalt des Gebäudes und/oder des Barrierenrahmens entspricht und eine wasserundurchlässige Dichtung bildet.
  8. Vorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 2 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die elastische Schicht ein oder mehrere Keilwellen (62) aufweist.
  9. Vorrichtung nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass ein oder mehrere Bänder Dichtungsmaterial entlang einer oder beiden der beim Gebrauch oberen oder unteren Seiten des Barrierenpaneels vorgesehen ist/sind, um die Wasserfestigkeitseigenschaften der Vorrichtung zu erhöhen.
  10. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Barrierenpaneel einen Flansch (14) aufweist, um das oder jedes Band aus Dichtungsmaterial festzuhalten.
  11. Vorrichtung nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Pressarretierung eine Klinke (97) aufweist, die nach der Bewegung der Arretierung in die Rahmeneingriffsposition in einen Schlitz (98) im Rahmen (83) eingreift und bewirkt, dass der Barrierenrahmen (83) und das Barrierenpaneel (80) zusammengedrückt werden.
  12. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 11, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Klinke (97) an einem Ende einer Welle (92) montiert ist, wobei die genannte Welle (92) durch eine Fläche des Paneels (97) verläuft und durch Drehen eines Griffs (91) am gegenüberliegenden Ende der Welle (92) betätigt werden kann.
  13. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 11, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass ein Nockenmechanismus den Barrierenrahmen und das Barrierenpaneel zusammendrückt.
  14. Vorrichtung nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das oder jedes Barrierenpaneel ein oder mehrere Barrierenpaneeleingriffsteile aufweist, so dass eine Reihe von Barrierenpaneelen zusammengefügt werden können, um eine größere Barriere zu bilden.
