Abstract

A flood barrier comprising a panel 4 and a channel shaped frame 1 fitted to an exterior door recess with an inflatable rubber sealing tube 2 and a non-inflatable sealing tube 7 adhered to the inner walls of the frame. The panel 4 is slid into position within the frame 1 and following inflation of the rubber sealing tube 2 via an air valve adaptor 6 provides a water tight seal between the panel 4 and frame 1. The panel 4 can be secured to the frame 1 by means of inserting security bolts 5 through the boltholes 8.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
FLOOD BARRIER DOOR, The invention relates to a flood barrier door, which includes tubing, such as rubber, that is inflated to create a watertight seal around the barrier door and its frame structure, which may be installed during flood periods., Exterior doors to buildings are effective in preventing rainy weather conditions from penetrating interiors of buildings but do not prevent floodwater from entering. During such adverse weather conditions sandbags are generally used The object of this invention is to provide a suitable barrier door to reduce the risk of flooding and subsequent damage to interior property.
Accordingly, this invention includes a flood barrier door comprising of a frame structure which is fitted to existing exterior door recesses, and has rubber sealing tubes adhered to the inner walls of the frame, which following inflation of one of the rubber sealing tubes, via an air valve adaptor, and after sliding the flood barrier door into position, creates a watertight seal between the frame and the flood barrier door.
Preferably the door is made of a rustproof material such as plastics, the frame structure of plastic coated material such as metal or wood, and the tubing of rubber such as that of a wellknown design.'1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which, Figure 1 shows a flood barrier door in position in a dwelling.
Figure 2 illustrates the flood barrier door sliding in position within the frame structure.
Figure 3 illustrates a cross-sectional view of the flood barrier door in its fitted position within an existing exterior door recess.
Figure 4 illustrates the side elevation of the frame, flood barrier door, non-inflatable rubber sealing tube, inflatable rubber sealing tube, securing bolts and the air valve adaptor to inflate
the tubing.
, Figure 5 illustrates the watertight seal between the frame structure and the flood barrier door, the non-inflatable rubber sealing tube and the inflatable rubber sealing tube following inflation.
As shown in figure 1, the flood barrier door 4 is of a height, which enables it to be stepped over. If a building has several access doors and the risk of flooding does not apply to all of them, then the height of the flood barrier door 4 may be increased accordingly. The main structure consists of a'U'shaped frame 1, which is secured to the outer recess of the exterior door to which it is being attached. This does not have to be a permanent fixture, allowing for its removal at lower risk seasons.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Figure 2 shows that within the'U'shaped frame 1 there is an inflatable rubber sealing tube 2, and a non-inflatable rubber sealing tube 7 that are fitted by means of a waterproof adhesive to its inner walls. The'U'shaped frame 1 is fitted to the recess walls of the exterior door entrance by bolting or screwing the frame 1 via the wall fixing holes 3 to the recess walls. When the'U'shaped frame 1 is in position the flood barrier door 4 may be slid into position as demonstrated in figure 1. The flood barrier door 4 when in position is secured to the frame 1 by means of inserting securing bolts 5 through the boltholes 8.
Figure 3 illustrates a cross-sectional view showing the flood barrier door 4, the'U'shaped frame 1 and the inflatable rubber sealing tube 2 and the non-inflatable rubber sealing tube 7 in its correct fixing position.
When the flood barrier door 4 is in its correct position, a watertight seal is obtained by
inflating the inflatable rubber sealing tube 2 via an air valve adaptor 6 as detailed in figures 4 ? and 5. A simple pump of a known design may be used for the inflation of the tubing 2. This watertight seal prevents water from penetrating the interior of buildings and properties. The pressure of the inflated rubber sealing tube 2, pushing the flood barrier door 4, against the non-inflated rubber sealing tube 7, achieves the watertight seal.
This invention is intended as an emergency precaution as there is restricted access in and out of the interior of the property/building.
