- the present invention relates to improvements made to containers, in particular bottles, made of thermoplastic material obtained by blowing or stretch-blowing a preform, these containers comprising a side wall and a bottom connected to the latter, said bottom comprising, in its central region, a multibranch cross-shaped imprint imprinted in the external face of the bottom wall, this cross imprint comprising a substantially circular central hollow around which radiate the branches of radial extent distributed regularly.

- the bottom of a container thus designed, the material of the central part of which has remained in an amorphous state and therefore has less mechanical resistance in contact with the hot liquid, is mechanically reinforced by the imprint in the shape of a multi-branch cross and does not does not deform under the effect of heat.
- the invention therefore aims to remedy this drawback and to provide an improved architecture of the bottom of the container which allows said container to withstand a pasteurization process without deformation of its bottom.
- a container in particular a bottle, made of thermoplastic material as described above is characterized, being arranged in accordance with the invention, in that the bottom is, moreover, of petaloid type, with the bottom wall of generally convex outwardly with at least three feet located towards the periphery of the bottom and formed by regularly distributed growths angular ent and separated from each other by a portion of the convex wall of the bottom, in that the feet and the branches of the cross impression are equal in number, in that the branches of the cross impression are arranged in correspondence with the feet and aligned radially with them respectively, in that each foot has a notch of stress absorption in its support part, and in that, in each foot, the stress absorption notch remains radially separated from the end of the corresponding branch of the cross impression.
- the container according to the invention combines the positive and advantageous effects: - on the one hand, of the petaloid bottom which supports without deformation the increase in volume of the hot liquid, and on the other hand, of the bottom with multibranch star imprint which can, without modifying the flatness of the feet of the petaloid part, deform 'and accompany, by deforming inwards, the reduction in volume of the pasteurized liquid during its cooling, this capacity for controlled deformation of the central part of the bottom (substantially in the area of amorphous material) inducing a reduction in the deformation undergone simultaneously by the wall of the container body, which wall is, for this purpose, constituted in the form of juxtaposed panels; the consequence is that said panels provided on the wall of the body can be produced with a smaller surface, which leaves more freedom for the design of the entire container.
- the advantages set out above apply when the containers are filled with a pasteurized flat (non-carbonated) liquid.
- the containers according to the invention are capable, a fortiori, of undergoing without damage a hot filling
- the substantially circular central bowl has a depth substantially greater than that branches of the cross print.
- the portions of the convex wall of the bottom which separate two adjacent feet extend between the corresponding adjacent arms of the cross impression, until substantially at the edge of the central bowl. But to avoid a central weakening, it is preferable that the aforesaid portions of the convex wall of the bottom which separate two adjacent feet do not open into the central bowl and that their end situated radially towards the center remains separated from the central bowl by a rim , which edges help to stiffen the periphery of the central hollow.
- the petaloid bottom can, in principle, include any number, even high, of feet.
- the hollow imprint in a multibranch cross can in principle include any number, even high, of branches.
- the branches of the cross impression have a radial extent which make them arrive, in part, in the initiation of the petals constituting the feet and while, moreover, the branches of the cross impression have a substantial width, it follows that, in the container of the invention, it is not possible to provide a substantial number of feet and branches of the cross print. In practice, this number must be greater than three (minimum number to ensure a stable base of the container), but does not seem to be able to exceed five. In practice the number of four seems to correspond to the best compromise.
- the thickness of the bottom of the container arranged in accordance with the invention is significantly less than that of the bottom with a single multibranch cross impression provided in a container intended for hot filling only: the use of provisions of the invention can significantly reduce the amount of material, of the order of 20 to 30% for the bottom alone and of the order of 3 to 10% for the entire container, depending on the type of container. This therefore results in a substantial saving of money, which makes the provisions of the invention advantageous if only for the sole application of containers suitable for hot filling.

- the cross impression 4 is formed in the central region of the bottom wall 5 in which the thermoplastic material has remained amorphous.
- the bottom 3 is shaped according to the so-called "petaloid" type with the bottom wall 5 having a generally convex outward shape.
- protuberances 10 projecting outwardly and located towards the periphery of the bottom; more precisely, the most projecting part 11 of the protuberances 10 is located in the vicinity of the periphery of the bottom while the protuberances descend in a gentle slope towards the center of the bottom.
- the protuberances 10 are regularly distributed angularly and are separated from each other by a portion of convex bottom wall which constitutes a valley 12 of radial extent separating two adjacent outgrowths.
- the protrusions 10 constitute feet, the most projecting part 11 of which is the support zone by which the container rests on a support.
- the protrusions or feet 10 and the branches 8 of the cross formed by the central imprint 4 are in equal number because, as can be seen particularly well in FIG. 1, the branches 8 of 10 the cross imprint are engaged, at least towards their respective ends, in the feet 10, at least in the least projecting part of these.
- the legs 10 and the branches 8 are not only equal in number, but are also mutually aligned 15 radially.
- Such a conformation is, in practice, imposed by the need to have at least three feet so that the container can rest stably on a support and by the need to have branches 8 of the cross impression 4 which have a substantial relief and dimensions, in particular with regard to their width.
- the number of feet, and therefore the number of branches 8 of the cross impression 4 cannot be less than three, but conversely cannot, 25. in practice, be too high taking into account requirements for obtaining correct shapes by blowing during manufacture.
- the bottom 3 has good rigidity during use, while having a relative aptitude for deformation in the presence of hot liquid, it is desirable to provide suitable reinforcing elements.
- the portions of the convex wall or valleys 12 which separate two adjacent feet extend between two arms 8 consecutive of the central impression in the form of a cross until substantially at the edge of the central bowl 6, without however opening into that -this and leaving a slight rim 15 remaining, forming an armature, between their radially inner end and the central bowl 6.
