Definitions

  • the present invention relates to chronograph mechanisms, which allow the measurement of a counted time from a given moment, controlled by pressing the push buttons.
  • a watch provided with such a mechanism is, for example, described in the book entitled "Theorie d'horlogerie” Chs-A. Reymondin et al. ISBN 2-940025-10-X, page 232 and following.
  • These watches generally comprise two pushers for one to ensure the start and stop of the meter ensuring the measurement of timed time, the other zero this counter. This time is displayed by means of at least one needle, usually arranged at the center of the movement and indicating the time in seconds.
  • the actuating means further comprise an initialization device, arranged to control the zeroing of the timed counting means.
  • its switching device comprises a locking structure arranged so that it can be operated only when one of the chronograph gear is engaged .
  • the locking means cooperate with the actuating means, so that the initialization means can not be activated when one of the chronograph wheels is engaged.
  • the position of the various components of the watch is sometimes defined with reference to the position occupied by an hour hand on the dial.
  • a watch 10 can be seen comprising a box 12, a dial 14, a winding crown and setting time 16, five hands bearing the references 18 to 23 and three push buttons, bearing the references 24 to 26.
  • the box 12 contains and protects a movement including a mechanism for timekeeping, as will be explained later. It is closed by an ice, not visible in the drawing, and which covers the dial 14 and the needles 18 to 23.
  • the hands 18 and 19 pivot in the center of the dial 14. They respectively display the hours and minutes of the current time.
  • the needles 20 and 21 are arranged concentrically with the needles 18 and 19. They are respectively driven by a first and a second counter and intended to display the seconds of a first and a second time stopwatch.
  • the needles 20 to 23 therefore take the place of time display means timed.
  • figure 2 represents, schematically, the effect that a pressure on one or other of the pushers engenders.
  • inactive pushers in different states that can take the mechanism were not taken into consideration.
  • the pusher 24 is operable regardless of the state in which the mechanism is.
  • the pusher 25 is active only if one or the other of the counters is in operation, while the pusher 26 can perform a zeroing only when the first counter is stopped and the second counter is stopped or zero.
  • rectangles in bold lines refer to actions P1, P2 and P3, made by the user of the watch respectively on the pushers 24, 25 and 26.
  • the watch is in the state A when no time is timed, the hands 20, 21 22 and 23 being zero.
  • a pressure P1 on the pusher 24 is active. It causes the start of the first counter and the setting in motion of the needles 20 and 22, the needles 21 and 23 remaining at zero, which corresponds to the state B of the mechanism.
  • P1 a new pressure on the pusher 24
  • P2 Pressure on the pusher 25 (P2) is also possible. It causes a switching of the counters, ie the stop of the first and the departure of the second, the mechanism then being in the state D.
  • the push-buttons 24 (P1) and 25 (P2) can be activated, which is comparable to the B state.
  • the second counter stopped, indicates a measured time, whereas in state B , it was at zero.
  • the mechanism providing these functions is represented on the Figures 3 to 6 . It is arranged on a frame plate 28, part of the base movement and may, for example, further provide a barrel bridge function. It is on the bottom of the watch.
  • the parts constituting it are in the state A as defined with reference to the figure 2 , ie in the state where the mechanism is at rest, the needles 20 to 22 being zero.
  • the figure 4 corresponds to state B , the figure 5 in state D , and the figure 6 in state C or D.
  • the pushers 24 to 26 are shown schematically by their end disposed inside the box.
  • the basic movement has not been represented. It comprises, in a conventional manner, a power source, a time base, and a finishing gear train ensuring the connection of the energy source to the time base and consequently the counting of the current time.
  • This gear comprises a mobile provided with a shaft passing through the frame 28 and carrying two wheels 301 and 302, whose function will be specified later.
  • the timed counting means 40 comprise two wheels 421 and 422, of the same diameter and provided with the same number of teeth, arranged coaxially at the center of the movement, and arranged to respectively carry the needles 20 and 21. They comprise, in in addition, two coaxial wheels, which have not been shown in the drawing, arranged to pivot on the frame 28 in a hole 28a, and driven respectively by the wheels 421 and 422, at a rate of one step per minute or half minute, and arranged so that the needles 22 and 23, they carry respectively, take a turn in thirty minutes. These wheels of the time counting means 40 are each provided with a heart, not shown in the drawing, intended to cooperate with the initialization means to set the hands to zero.
  • the connecting means 50 comprise two flip-flops 521 and 522, pivotally mounted on the frame 28, in their central part on the same axis, which is outside the frame of the drawing.
  • These latches 521 and 522 carry, at one of their ends, a wheel mounted idle and identified by the letter a. They are provided at the other end with a nose identified by the letter b and intended to cooperate with the actuating means 60, as will be explained later.
  • the wheels 521a and 522a are arranged so that they mesh respectively permanently with the wheels 301 and 302 and sequentially with the wheels 421 and 422, with reference to the actuating means, as will be explained below.
  • the wheel 421 and the first of the unrepresented and pivoting wheels 28a together form the first time wheel, while the wheel 422 and the second of the unrepresented wheels form the second time wheel.
  • the rocker 521, with its wheel 521a forms the first clutch and the rocker 522, with its wheel 522a, the second.
  • the initialization means 70 are all visible only on the figure 6 . They comprise a control lever 71 and a hammer 72, respectively pivotably mounted at 281 and 28m on the frame 28.
  • the lever 71 carries a pin 71a, arranged so that the pusher 26 can actuate. It is provided with a nose 71b, called to cooperate with the pawl 69d, and an arm 71c forming a stop for the hammer 72.
  • the hammer 72 is formed of a body 72a, which carries, in the vicinity of its pivot point 28m, a pin 72b and two noses 721c and 722c superimposed.
  • the pin 72b is intended to cooperate with the arm 71c, while the nose 721c and 722c are arranged to work respectively with the columns of the wheels 661 and 662.
  • the other end of the body 72a carries two arms 72d and 72e each provided at its free end with two superposed heels, the heels 721d and 722d for the arm 72d, 721e and 722e for the arm 72e. These heels are intended to cooperate with the hearts which are provided with the wheels carrying the needles 20 to 23.
  • the rest position of the various parts constituting it is generally defined by the action of a spring holding each piece in abutment.
  • these springs are simply represented by an arrow, to avoid overloading the drawing.
  • the latch 61 is held in the position shown in FIG. figure 3 by the action of a spring F61a, schematically represented by an arrow, as explained above, bearing against a stop which has not been shown in the drawing.
  • a spring F61c keeps the pawl 61c resting against the pin 61d.
  • the bodies 62a and 622a of the levers 621 and 622 are respectively held in place, against a stop not shown, by springs F621a and F622a superimposed and noted F621 / 2a on the figure 3 .
  • the pawls 621b and 622b are respectively constrained by springs tending to keep them in contact with the ratchet of the column wheels 661 and 662, denoted F621 / 2b.
  • the switching lever 64 is supported by its contact finger 64f against the cam 67b, under the effect of a spring F64a acting on its body 64a.
  • the arm 64b is pressed against an abutment integral with the frame 28 and schematically represented by a pin 28n, under the effect of a spring F64b.
  • the pawl 64d is positioned against the pin 64e by a spring F64d.
  • the selection lever 65 is subjected to a spring F65a, acting on the body 65a so that the nose 65b bears against the cam 68b, and a spring F65c applying the arm 65c by the pin 65d against the lever 621 or 622.
  • the lever 71 is subjected to a spring F71 which tends to resist the force applied by the pusher 26.
  • a spring F72a is pressed against the body 72a, so that the heels abut against the hearts when neither the nose nor the pin 72a are no longer held respectively by the arm 71c and the columns of the wheels 661 and 662 ( figure 6 ).
  • the column wheels 661 and 662 and the coordination wheels 67 and 68 are positioned by jumper springs, not shown in the drawing.
  • actuating means provide both a control and switching function. They thus constitute a control device consisting essentially of the flip-flop 61 and the levers 621 and 622, and a switching device formed essentially of the switching lever 64 and the selection lever 65.
  • the pawl 621b drives the column wheel 661, so that the nose 521b is between two columns and that the rocker 521 moves to ensure the engagement of the wheel 521a with the wheel 421.
  • the counter of first timed time is engaged.
  • the pawl 61c cooperating with the star wheel 67a drives the coordination wheel 67.
  • the tilting of the lever 64 brings the pin 64c into the space swept by the pusher 25, thus ensuring a function of clutch structure, allowing the actuation of the switching device, as will be explained later.
  • These lever movements have no immediate effect, they only place these parts so that they can be activated later, as will be explained later.
  • the hammer 72 also pivots when actuating the pusher 24. Indeed, because of the rotation of the column wheel 661, the nose 721c is raised by a column. The heels 721d, 722d, 721e and 722e then release the wheels of the chronograph wheels, in particular the wheels 421 and 422.
  • state B the actuation of the pusher 24 causes, in a manner similar to that described with reference to FIG. figure 3 , the displacement of the latch 61, which rotates the column wheel 661 and the coordination wheel 67 by a new step.
  • the rotation of the column wheel 661 brings the nose 521b to bear against a column, so that the wheel 521a is again disengaged from the wheel 421.
  • the mechanism is then in state C , that is to say that the first counter is stopped and displays the first timed time, while the second counter is zero. In this state, the mechanism occupies the same position as that shown on the figure 3 .
  • states A and C There are however two differences between states A and C. On the one hand the timed first time counter is no longer zero, and on the other hand, the hammer 72 is in the wheel release position and not in the initialization position. These differences do not appear on the figure 3 .
  • the pin 64c simultaneously pushes the levers 621 and 622, bearing against their fingers 621d and 622d, so that the pawls 621c and 622c respectively drive the column wheels 661 and 662.
  • the latch 521 which was between two columns, bears against a column, while the rocker 522, which was in support against a column, falls between two columns. In this way, the wheel 521a is disengaged from the wheel 421, which interrupts the counting of the first timed time, and the wheel 522a is engaged with the wheel 422, which triggers the counting of the second timed time.
  • the pawl 64d pushes the coordination wheel 68 by one step.
  • the selection lever 65 is supported by its nose 65b, it tilts and assumes a position such that the pin 65d is in position. next to the cut 621c.
  • state D which is represented on the figure 5 .
  • an action on the pusher 26 has no effect, but this time it is the column wheel 662 which prevents the hammer 72 from tilting.
  • the nose 71b pushes the pawl 69d, which drives the coordination wheel 68 by its star 68a, so that the selection lever 65 occupies the position where a pressure on the pusher 24 causes the engagement of the counter first time timed.
