Definitions
- the present invention relates to an apparatus for supporting positioning means in the erection of brickwork constructions.
- positioning means In order to enable the erection of a brickwork construction in the desired direction, use is made of positioning means. These positioning means or brickwork profiles consist of wooden poles or beams often having a rectangular cross-section.
- rectangular pieces of wood clamps
- the brickwork profiles support on these clamps. Diverse brickwork profiles are placed on top of one another to arrive at the desired height. Use is made for the clamps of waste wood sawn to the desired size.
- the placing of brickwork profiles using clamps is labour-intensive, requires a great deal of material and does not always provide a safe solution to enable upright erection of a brickwork construction.
- the nails with which the clamps are fixed in the mortar can cause damage to the brickwork construction.
- the object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for supporting positioning means in the erection of brickwork constructions, wherein the above stated drawbacks are obviated.
- a further object is to provide such an apparatus which can be used frequently, is durable and can be employed for different types of brickwork construction.
- an apparatus for supporting positioning means in the erection of brickwork constructions comprising a first arm, a first support surface fixed to the first arm, and lips located on both ends of the first arm for placing in joints between bricks of the brickwork construction which have been laid one on top of another.
- This apparatus is connected releasably to the brickwork construction without the mortar between the laid bricks being affected.
- the desired positioning means can be placed and supported on the support surface.
- the apparatus further comprises a second arm placed transversely of the first arm and a lip located on at least one end of the second arm for placing in a joint between bricks of the brickwork construction which have been laid one on top of another.
- the apparatus is hereby fixed releasably to the brickwork construction not only in horizontal but also in vertical direction.
- a second support surface is preferably fixed to the second arm transversely of the first support surface, so that the apparatus can be employed for different types of brickwork construction.
- the length of the first and/or the second arm is preferably adjustable.
- the apparatus can hereby be used irrespective of the dimensions of bricks in the brickwork construction.
- the adjustable length lies roughly between 14 and 22.5 cm. With such an adjustable length the apparatus can be applied with the most commonly occurring bricks.
- the most common bricks have a length of about 15.5 and 21 cm.
- first and the second arm are fixed to each another with one end.
- An L-shaped apparatus is hereby created which can be placed at internal and external corners of a brickwork construction.
- a versatile apparatus which can be manufactured at relatively low cost price is obtained when the support surfaces are located close to the ends of the arms which are fixed to one another and are formed integrally with the lips on that end.
- first and/or the second arm comprises a first and a second arm part which fit into each other and are adjustable relative to each other.
- the arm can thus be adjusted in the length in simple manner.
- the lip on an outer end of the first arm part is bent to the direction of the opposite lip on an outer end of the second arm part. This makes possible a firmer attachment to for instance brickwork.
- both second arm parts are manufactured from one sheet of metal. This saves production costs and time.
- an arm comprises a screw bolt with relatively flat screw thread for the purpose of adjusting the first arm part relative to the second arm part.
- the screw bolt is hereby found to continue operating when dirt gets onto or into the screw thread.
- An apparatus 1 for supporting positioning means 2 in the erection of brickwork construction 3 comprises two arms 4 which are placed transversely of one another and which comprise at both ends lips 5 for placing in joints 6 between bricks 7 of brickwork construction 3 which have been laid one on top of another.
- Each arm is provided with a support surface 8 on which the positioning means 2 is supported.
- support surfaces 8 are holes 9 for passage of nails 10 which can be hammered into the wooden positioning means 2.
- the support surfaces 8 are formed integrally with the lips 5.
- Each arm 4 is formed by two arm parts 4a, 4b, wherein arm part 4a can slide in arm part 4b.
- Arm parts 4a, 4b are mutually connected by means of a long screw bolt 11 and nut 12.
- Screw bolt 11 protrudes from the outside through arm part 4b into arm part 4a.
- screw bolt 11 is screwed a nut 12 which forms a stop against the inner side of the end surface of arm part 4a. By rotating the screw bolt 11 the length of the associated arm 4 can be changed.
- Figures 1 and 2 show two different situations in which the apparatus 1 according to the invention can be applied.
- the apparatus serves to support a positioning means 2 in the erection of a straight brickwork construction 3
- the apparatus serves to support a positioning means 2 for erecting a brickwork construction with an external corner 13.
- the apparatus 1 can be fixed at a desired height to brickwork construction 3 in order to support brickwork profile 2. A relatively safe solution is hereby obtained for positioning brickwork constructions. In addition, material and labour are saved with the apparatus 1 according to the invention.
- the apparatus 1 is quick and easy to place and remove, and is reusable.
- the lips 5 on the outer ends of arm parts 4a are bent to the direction of the opposite lips 5 on an outer end of arm parts 4b. This is found to improve the attachment of apparatus 1 to the brickwork.
- the two arm parts 4b are manufactured from one sheet of metal.
- the sheet is herein first bent to form a U-profile with standing side walls and a lower wall.
- a V-shaped recess with an angle of about 45° is then arranged in the side walls, whereafter the arm parts 4b are bent through an angle of about 90°.
- the screw thread of screw bolt 11 is relatively flat, whereby it continues to function when dirt enters the screw thread during use of apparatus 1.
- the invention is not limited to the embodiment of the apparatus 1 shown in the drawings.
