Abstract

731,682. Bricklaying lines. WILKINSON, G. J. May 26, 1953 [June 4, 1952], No. 14105/52. Class 20 (2). An aligning instrument for use in laying bricks comprises a stock 7, adapted to be fixed vertically at the corner of a partly built brick wall, having secured thereto a line supporting arm 17 which has a row of regularly spaced line carriers 22 which support a gauge line 24, the inclination of the arm 17 being adjustable so that the vertical distance between the line carriers 22 may be set to correspond to the depth of one course of brickwork. As shown, the stock 7 is attached to the wall by means of a corner bracket 10 and bolts 11, and is set in an upright position by means of rotatable eccentrics 8 which bear against the partly built wall. The stock 7 may be provided with spirit levels 15 and/or a plumb line 16, Fig. 2 (not shown). Two arms 17 may be provided, pivoted to the stock 7, each at right angles to the other. The arms are clamped at the selected inclination by bolts 18 in arcuate slots 19 in support plates 20 fixed to the stock 7. At internal corners the gauge line may be passed around deflectors 26, Fig. 6, secured in position by bolts 28.
