Definitions

  • the invention relates to a process for drying sludge, in particular sewage sludge, to produce granules from the material to be dried, in which a mixture of a carrier material consisting of recycled, already dried sludge and wet sludge is fed to a dryer.
  • the invention further relates to a plant for carrying out the method.
  • Drum drying systems have been around for many years. Such systems and processes are particularly suitable for drying sludge, especially sewage sludge, e.g. in EP 0 789 209 or US 5,318,184. These systems have in common that a backmixing of carrier material from already dried material to the wet sludge is provided to overcome the so-called glue phase. For this purpose, a large part of the already dried material is fed into a carrier material silo by means of a number of conveying elements, from where it is added to the wet sludge according to various control parameters and mixed with it is then fed to the dryer. In order to be able to store the dried material in the silo, it has to be cooled using a special cooling device (e.g. cooling screw). Furthermore, special, expensive designs are required for the carrier material silo for safety reasons.
  • a special cooling device e.g. cooling screw
  • the aim of the invention is therefore to provide a method and a system which are optimized in terms of safety technology, have high availability and, by reducing the number of system components, also require less space and lower manufacturing costs.
  • the invention is therefore characterized in that the dry material is fed to a solids separator after the dryer and temporarily stored there or in a directly connected intermediate container, the dry material used as carrier material being able to be mixed with the wet sludge without further storage. As a result, the previously required carrier material silo and the cooling device can be dispensed with.
  • a favorable development of the invention is characterized in that the degree of filling in the separator / separator or intermediate container is regulated by an integrated conveying unit, for example a screw conveyor. This means that optimum addition to the wet sludge and optimum separation effect of the separator can always be achieved.
  • An advantageous embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the intermediate storage of the dry material takes place in the inert area.
  • the invention also relates to a plant for carrying out the method. This is characterized in that after the dryer a solid separator with a storage volume or a separate storage container directly connected to the solid separator is provided for the dry material. As a result, the previously required carrier material silo and the cooling screw can be dispensed with.
  • a favorable further development of the invention is characterized in that the solid separator is a filter, whereby the solid separator can also be a cyclone.
  • the system can thus be carried out more cost-effectively.
  • An advantageous embodiment of the invention is characterized in that a discharge device, for example a discharge screw conveyor, is integrated in the separator / separator or storage container. This means that optimum addition to the wet sludge and optimum separation effect of the separator can always be achieved.
  • a favorable embodiment of the invention is characterized in that at least one conveyor unit is provided between the discharge device and the mixer, which conveys the carrier material consisting of already dried sludge directly, ie without the interposition of other units or containers, from the solids separator to the mixer, this conveyor unit alternatively can be a tube or shaft chain conveyor, an elevator or a screw conveyor.
  • a tube chain conveyor offers the possibility to circulate the dried material to be returned when the system is switched off and, if necessary, to cool it, the product always being in the inert area remains.
  • the drying of the dried sludge can be carried out favorably with an elevator and the feed quantity can be regulated particularly well with a screw conveyor.
  • An advantageous development of the invention is characterized in that at least one further conveyor unit, e.g. Tube chain conveyor, shaft chain conveyor, elevator or screw conveyor is provided between the discharge device and the mixer.
