Definitions
- the invention relates to an injection system for an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 1 and a Method of operating them according to claim 13.
- Known injection systems for internal combustion engines usually have a low pressure pump, which is to be injected Sucks fuel from a fuel tank and on a high pressure pump forwards the in for injection the combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine required injection pressure generated.
- a pressure regulator is usually arranged, that when a predetermined fuel pressure is exceeded in the low pressure area between the low pressure pump and the High pressure pump part of the pumped by the low pressure pump Branches off and into the fuel tank returns so that the fuel pressure in the low pressure area remains approximately constant.
- the high pressure pump with a pressure accumulator (English Common Rail) from which the individual combustion chambers of the Internal combustion engine-associated injectors with fuel be supplied.
- the accumulator is on Subordinate high pressure control valve that when a predetermined fuel pressure in the high pressure range Part of the fuel flow delivered by the high pressure pump branches off and into the fuel tank or into the low pressure area returns so that the fuel pressure in the Pressure accumulator is kept approximately constant.
- a disadvantage of such known injection systems is that The fact that to control or regulate the fuel pressure in the high pressure area a separate high pressure control valve is required. Another disadvantage of those described above well-known injection system can be seen in that the high pressure pump regardless of the actual Always has a specified delivery rate, which depends on their speed. The high pressure pump therefore consumes in the partial load range of the internal combustion engine unnecessary mechanical drive power.
- the invention is therefore based on the object at the outset to improve the known injection system described, that dispenses with a separate high pressure control valve can be and if possible no unnecessary mechanical Power for driving the high pressure pump is consumed.
- the task is based on the one described above known injection system according to the preamble of the claim 1 and with regard to an associated operating method solved the features of claim 13.
- the invention encompasses the general technical teaching that Fuel pressure in the high pressure area of the injection system on The high pressure pump does not exit through a separate high pressure control valve stop, but instead the funding the high pressure pump depending on the operating state the injection system or the internal combustion engine to control or regulate.
- the injection system according to the invention therefore has one Fuel pump with a control input to control the Fuel delivery on, the control input with a Control device is connected, the at least one sensor to record a state variable of the injection system or queries the internal combustion engine and the fuel pump in dependence from the determined state variable with a corresponding one Control signal driven.
- the sensor for detecting a state variable of the injection system or the internal combustion engine for example is a speed sensor that measures the speed the crankshaft or the camshaft of the internal combustion engine detected, so that the delivery rate of the fuel pump depends on the speed is set.
- a temperature sensor can also be used which detects the fuel temperature so that the Control device the delivery rate of the fuel pump in Depends on the fuel temperature.
- the fuel pump is preferably controlled also depending on the installation angle of the Fuel pump relative to the crank or Camshaft to set the desired phase position.
- Another important factor in the generation of the control signal to control the fuel pump is the dead time the control valve of the fuel pump, i.e. the timespan between the application of a control signal to the control valve and the setting of the desired valve status.
- the injection system shown in Figure 1 is for a Internal combustion engine provided with four combustion chambers and has to deliver fuel from a fuel tank 1 a low pressure pump 2 by a, not shown Electric motor is driven.
- the drive of the low pressure pump However, 2 is also by a camshaft 3 Internal combustion engine possible.
- the low-pressure pump 2 with a low-pressure regulator is on the output side 4 connected, which is exceeded when a predetermined Fuel pressure in the low pressure area at the outlet the low pressure pump 2 is part of the low pressure pump 2 delivered fuel flow branches and into the fuel tank 1 so that the fuel pressure in the low pressure range is kept approximately constant.
- the low-pressure pump 2 is equipped with a High pressure pump 5 connected, the tappet from the Camshaft 3 is driven mechanically and for injection of the fuel into the combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine required injection pressure generated.
- the structure of the High-pressure pump 5 is shown schematically in FIGS. 2a-2c and will be explained in more detail.
- the high-pressure pump 5 is on the output side via a check valve 6 connected to a pressure accumulator 7 (common rail), from which the individual combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine assigned and shown here only schematically injectors remove the fuel to be injected.
- a pressure accumulator 7 common rail
- the injection system according to the invention has a Control device 8, which has the task of the delivery rate to adjust the high pressure pump 5 as required that the fuel pressure in the pressure accumulator 7 within one predetermined bandwidth.
- This is the control device 8 connected with several sensors to state variables the injection system or the internal combustion engine and the delivery rate of the high-pressure pump 5 as required to be able to adjust.
- control device 8 is on the input side with a Pressure sensor 9 connected to the fuel pressure P in the Pressure accumulator 7 detected.
- control device 8 is on the input side with a Temperature sensor 10 connected to the fuel temperature measures.
- the fuel temperature can also be due to other operating state variables can be calculated.
- control device 8 is connected on the input side to a rotation angle sensor 11 which detects the rotation angle ⁇ KW of the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine, since the angular position of the crankshaft forms a fixed reference system for controlling the high pressure pump 5.
- the rotation angle sensor 11 On the output side, the rotation angle sensor 11 is connected to a computing unit 12, which determines the rotation speed n KW of the crankshaft from the rotation angle ⁇ KW of the rotation angle sensor 11 and supplies it to the control device 8.
- the injection system according to the invention has a rotation angle sensor 13 which determines the angular position ⁇ NW of the camshaft 3. This is important since the camshaft 3 rotates relative to the crankshaft when the camshaft is adjusted, so that the control of the high-pressure pump 5 must be adapted accordingly.
- a computing unit 14 is therefore provided, which is connected on the input side both to the rotation angle sensor 11 for the crankshaft and to the rotation angle sensor 13 for the camshaft and determines the rotation angle ⁇ KW-NW between the crankshaft and the camshaft.
- the two rotation angle sensors 11, 13 deliver in dependence from the respective position to the camshaft sensor wheel or Crankshaft encoder wheel each LOW and HIGH level, from which the camshaft angle or the crankshaft angle is calculated becomes.
- FIGS. 2a-2c The following is now based on the schematic representations the structure of the high-pressure pump 5 is described in FIGS. 2a-2c. So it is with the high pressure pump 5 Single cylinder piston pump with a piston 15, which in one Cylinder is oscillated by the camshaft. By doing On the one hand there is a pump housing with a low pressure connection for connecting the high pressure pump 5 to a low pressure area 16, between the low pressure pump 2 and the High pressure pump 5 is. On the other hand, the high pressure pump 5 a high-pressure connection 17 on which the high-pressure pump 5 connected to the check valve 6 and the pressure accumulator 7 is.
- control valve 18 In the area of the low pressure connection of the high pressure pump 5 a control valve 18 is arranged which the flow connection between the pump housing and the low pressure region 16 enable or disable depending on a control signal can.
- the high pressure pump 5 also has a check valve 19, which is arranged in the region of the high-pressure connection and a backflow of fuel from the downstream the high pressure pump 5 located high pressure area in the high pressure pump 5 prevented.
- FIGS. 2b and 2c Funding phase The following is the one shown in FIGS. 2b and 2c Funding phase described, wherein Figure 2b shows a state shows the high pressure pump 5, in which no fuel is delivered should be and the high pressure pump 5 runs empty. In this state, the control valve 18 is still open, so that the piston 15 located in the pump housing Fuel on the upstroke back to the low pressure range 16 presses. It is important here that the resistance of the check valve 19 is so large that in the low pressure range 16 prevailing fuel pressure is not sufficient to the Open check valve 19.
- Control valve 18 determines the delivery rate of the high pressure pump 5 is maximum when the control valve 18 during of the entire upward stroke of the piston 15 is closed, whereas the delivery rate of the high pressure pump 5 is minimal, if the control valve 18 during the entire upward stroke of the Piston 15 is opened.
- control of the control valve 18 of the high-pressure pump 5 will now be described below with reference to FIG. 3, the upper diagram in FIG. 3 showing the oscillating movement of the piston 15 of the high-pressure pump 5, while the middle diagram in FIG. 3 shows that generated by the control device 8 Control signal 20 for controlling the control valve 18 of the high pressure pump shows.
- a high level of the control signal 20 causes the control valve 18 to close, whereas a low level of the control signal 20 causes the control valve 18 of the high-pressure pump 5 to open.
- the lower diagram in FIG. 3 shows the actual state 21 of the control valve 18, it being recognizable that the control valve 18 only follows the control signal 20 with a delay due to mechanical inertia.
- the time delay between the control signal 20 and the actual state 21 of the control valve 18 is approximately 1 ms, the opening dead time T tot, on and the closing dead time T tot, not being identical.
